Ok peeps, I just wanted to know YOUR feelings on "BURNING" music be it Freestyle or whatever, I just wanted to hear people's sentiments on this subject!!

(Yes and its true, will all know somebody thats done it too!)

BURNING as in lighting on fire??

ohhh lol you mean Burning onto CD.

Like I always say... Record labled must add 'goodies'
in the box with the music to attract buyers and not burners.

Goodies dont even have to cost them a fortune.
Some ideas i have are special Digital gifts for the person
who bought. Online registration & more.

my opinion differs from jack's. I dont like copies. i like having the original. it gives you the sense of pride, as a collector, that you own a genuine. besides, if you ever meet the artist and ya have intentions of getting the cd signed......wouldnt ya feel funny if you didnt have an original to have signed?

I agree with Kenny and Jack to a point. I think burning is ok if you dont go out there and sell what you burn and is just for either your own pleasure or a gift for someone else. There are many people out there who decide to burn and sell rare freestyle music just because they are hard to find in all of the retail music stores. And if you happen to find em they are used and the money you pay for that one record goes to the owner of the commercial retail not the record company. So what is the use? I dont blame them for going that route, but yet I dont believe in doing this. I'd go about giving than selling burner copies personally if I had to choose between the two.

There are circumstances though that force even the most honest shmoe to burn music. For example, if shmoe just bought the new DMX cd from sam goody and then later on he loses that copy, then what is the is this person to do? Is he gonna buy a new copy again or is he just gonna be smart and not waste his money by going on the net and downloading all of dmx' songs and burning it? What would anyone do? We look to make our lives easier not make some companies rich and drain us out of our pockets. I would go with burning in this case, I mean after all, he did crompromise in being faithful by actually buying the joint. And theres many cases like this not just this one example.

It is assumed that if people like so and so by hearing it on Kazza that he will buy this cd. This is half true. If anyone were to like an artist then yes he would go buy the cd but if anyone were to just like the song then no, theywouldnt buy it, just as long as I can be able to hear this favorite of mine then no, there is no need for me to go out and buy it. This is what the average person would do. If you are a collector, you dont burn and if you use kazza it is to simply see if the cd is worth buying. If you are an honest to goodness person you wouldnt care if you just like the song youd just go out there and buy the cd, if it sounds good. Others dl and burn because they cant find what they want in stores. Once again, can we blame them?

There are companies who have been smart in setting up jacks method by going and having contest entries, registration for free stuff, or Enhanced cd options (so you can actually view a possible video in one of these). What record companies must learn is not what s in their best interest but what the people out there want. Believe it or not, they wouldve made more money this way. Or else, I believe this whole kazza napster stuff wouldve never been. Not that im saying it is bad. Hell I even use this myself but you know my point.

im really against bootleg, burning cds, etc.....

i personally enjoy reading the credits, thank you's etc... Artist really work their asses off putting in long hours in the studios.(It isn't easy work)

They deserve every sale they could get.

Ooh I like to voice my opinion on this. 😀

First, I find OOP CDS should be burned. YOU DO NOT shut out the human race from hearing good music. For example, you don't make a small amount of Safire 88 music and say, those were the times NO. You dont' do that. Music is there always and forever, regardless what instruments were used or whatever.

With that said, I see nothing wrong by burning OOP music, like SaFire 88, Latin Rascals, Tony Moran, India, Coro, etc.

Now, burning CDs from new released albums, I find that unfair. And wrong.

I dont' burn myself cause I don't have a burner yet, but I don't mind burning OOP CD albums that many don't have access to. That is very unfair. To shutout freestyle lovers who want access to those artists's music/cd who help paved the way to what freestyle is now today!

Everyone has a POINT...I AGREE

HOWEVER, let me give you an example. I've recently lost my job. My funds are limited and I wanted to buy 3 new cd's...Safire 2002 remix of Don't Break My Heart and it was on sale for about 16 or $18 dollars. Then the new Album featuring Cynthia...another $18.99 or so. Then I saw this awesome Freestyle Rush CD that had several original songs that I don't have and picked that one.. My brother bought the Safire Album w/Cynthia and found that there was a recording defect...the song skipped..He purchased it at a pretty expensive price at Virgin Records and had to return it..twice...the second one after the exchange had the same defect..it skips at 104 playtime.whatever that means..he had to return that one too. So, NO NEW SAFIRE CD...BUMMER.

I have a CD that says 80's Blast #2 for DJ's only,,featuring songs like I cry for you... Let the Night take the Blame,,Dolce Vita..and many other 80's awesome club songs ALL THE LONG VERSIONS...my friend can't find it anywhere, so I burned a copy for him.

The downside is that some of these "GREAT HITS" can't be found anywhere and the desire to have them supersedes the guilt of dubbing or cheater the performer out of their royalties. Again, if I find myself in a bad monetary situation and want a copy...I'LL GET THE CD BURNED...I'M SORRY.

I TRIED THE HONEST AND ORIGINAL WAY FIRST.

Now, the Freestyle Rush CD has the following songs.
1. Lil' Suzy - Take me in your arms.
2. A'klan feat Aby - One Way Love...- this I had never heard before
3. Collage - I'll be loving you...I've always wanted this song & now found it...after looking every where 4 it.
4. Denine - I remember You...I never knew this artist and always like the song
5. Meg - Lover Girl
6. Stevie B. - Spring Love ...this version I have NEVER EVER HEARD...NOT EVER PLAYED ON THE RADIO EITHER
7. Miguel Reyes Jr..- Those were the times...Never heard this song, but like it
8. Afrika Bambaataa - Planet Rock Beats
9. Willie Valentin - ONE TRUE LOVE AFFAIR...ONE OF MY FAVORITES AND NEVER KNEW IT WAS HIM SINGING...
10. Stephanie - Get away...i have this only on 12" vinyl
11. L. Tee - Come into my arms...I LIKE JUDY'S VERSION MUUUUUUCH BETTER..SORRY
12. Nasty Boys - INTIMATE STRANGERS...ANOTHER PERSONAL FAV
13. Tony Marino - Love you Feel...I liked this one & could not find it anywhere before
14. Tolga & Friends - Sending all my love...this is a great song too
15. G.T. - So In love with you.

Sorry for the long post..
besitos to you for the patience...😀

s.t.e.a.l.i.n.g.

ok first let me say, i havent paid for an "original" cd in maybe almost 10 years...and yes i have a burner. any songs released since then that i have on cd r copies that i burned. point blank...leeching mp3s and burning a cd instead of buying the real/original one IS STEALING. as much as i love winmx and as much as i loved napster (RIP) i gotta be honest. and this is coming from someone who is too ghetto to go out and support the music she likes by PAYING for the cd. i feel bad about it sometimes (laugh) but if its free online then theres no motivation for me to pay. some people care about reading the credits, lyrics, etc. im happy with just a cheesy copy!

on a positive note, programs like napster and winmx have exposed a lot of people to artists and songs they never would have heard otherwise. my computer has a ton of great trance and foreign music on it (i dont even speak korean!) that i never would have found out about otherwise. so im sure some artists who arent that established have seen an increase in sales.

people can make as many excuses as they want in an attempt to legitimize burning copies instead of paying for the real thing...but point blank we all know its stealing! 😉

i haven't bought a cd in about five yrs...i can't see myself going out and buying a cd that i can burn or download...thats money in my pocket...i think the only cd's that i have bought in the last 5 yrs have freestyle(maybe 2-3) but other than that...i download away and burn away...wait until i can burn dvd movies(hahaha)

lol...sorry jack...i meant to say that my opinion "didnt" differ from yours in a bad way. yours is a good point. i rarely see cds with those extra goodies that makes them worth buying that bootlegs cant reproduce (yet)!

I have mixed feelings about this whole subject, but I do also have about 1400 mp3's roughly 8 gigs worth. I also have a ton of old vinyl from back in the day and s decent amount of cd's. Now I wont buy every piece of junk cd that comes out and I especially wont buy a cd if theres like 1 song i like on it only. Now I do buy cd's from time to time, but it has to be worth it. For example I bought tka's new cd... why? because I love tks and I want to see them do well and i felt they deserved my $$ I also bought Bad boy joe's 2 cd's,,,again cause freestyle needs all the support it can get. But if you think I would buy say britney's cd's or any other mainstream artist..heh thats nuts. They dont need my $$..neither do the greedy record companies...On a side note..saying that taking mp3's from the net or burning mp3's on cd's is illegal is like saying that the show you tape on your vcr is stealing also...How many people never tape with their vcr's??? This debate was settled with vcr recording in the early 80's and it hasnt hurt tv or the movie industry.

Now I realize that this is a different medium and a diferent tech that wwe are talking about. However with different times comes different tech these companies need to adjust and move on. They killed Napster and they are trying to kill 2 or 3 others right now in court, but the internet is such that you kill 2 and 3 more pop up they will not win by going against us, in the long run they should try to embrace this tech and the peopel who support it. In a war you make much more headway by understanding the nme and figuring out a way to make money by keeping the people happy. The more they try to keep people from getting their music online the more people want it that way...its like any thing else in life.

Ok lastly. Just a FYI, the record industry has seen tremendous growth in the last decade. Their sales are up every year, yes including the years when napster started and this whole mp3 craze was and is going on. So while their in court whinning, theyare still seeing the numbers increase year after year. So why are they crying u ask? Because they are scared that eventually peopel will wake up out of the ether and realize that what we have all been paying for a cd, 14-20 bucks, is down right nasty and bs.

So the soultion imo. Let people burn all the music they want because it hasnt affected their bottom line yet but prosecute the ones trying to seel boot leg copies to make $$. Also make an option for people to take 1 or 2 songs they like off of a new artist's cd instead of having to pay for the whole cd when they dont want the whoel thing. That can be made available online for say 1 dollar a song. Now think about the profit in that for them....They sell a cd in the store for 14-20 bucks and their cost has to be less then 2 bucks each. Now they can sell 1 song for a dollar,,,no overhead no cd no packaging, no middle man to pay for selling it cause it comes directly from them.

Wow long post...thats my rant 😛

U ask a good question....

OK I too have mixed feelings about it!

If I can and most time I will , go out and but the cd...I bought the TKA greatest hits-LisaLisa's greatest hits-I even went allllllllllllllllllll
the way to Southern Blvd. in the boggie down...(*mind you from Yonkers with 3 kids...)to buy Willie's 2k1 cd's 1&2....
If can I can find it I most likely I will buy it,:

however.....tracks from Naya,JudyTorres,India,Soave,RioSisters...ect...are out of print...so where can I find them?
Winmx-Napster-AudioGalaxy....I don't have a prob burning them if the songs are out of print and hard to get otherwise, cuz I'll be damned I WILL NOT go to Ebay and try to buy stuff....I have kids and need to support not just them , but myself and I cannot afford to pay for anything over $25.00 + (not that I'm a cheap skate-that lil bit can go along way!)....just to collect items only to have my kids get to them and mess it up.....

just my 2 cents!

There are alot of issues that go hand in hand with this topic. I have a cd burner and have burned old freestyle songs that you can't find in the stores. Not relating to freestyle, I have burned alot of albums such as the new Creed and Britney Spears (yes, God forbid!) I have no bad feelings about burning their cds because how many millions do they have? I work my ass off trying to make a buck. These guys have good talent, but have millions and millions of dollars. Just like baseball players. THey might get rid of 2 baseball teams. They shouldn't have to do that if they didnt' pay the baseball players millions and millions of dollars. I love to mix music, listen to freestyle. Are people going to pay me millions of dollars to mix music? If I sell 100 mix cds, are people going to pay millions for those? If I am a baseball player, like Alex Rodriguez, if I hit a home run, I make $50,000. I think you see my point by now....

Going back to freestyle, as this was said many of times, perhaps adding to the downfall of freestyle awhile ago and to the present. The label companies dont' know how to or won't market their singers to the major markets in the U.S. They just dont' put the money behind their singers. I live in Chicago. For the first time in a very long time, there were commercials for TKA on 92.7FM, ENERGY, talking about their concerts. That's cool, but nothing was mentioned about their new album, Forever. I have never heard an advertisement on the radio in Chicago relating to freestyle, whether it be George Lamond, Cynthia or whoever. All the big names and their labels, still can't promote their artists. If you look where you buy vinyl, cds, tapes, the specialty stores...How many of those stores actually have posters or advertisements promoting our freestyle artists albums, singles? In Chicago, absolutely none. I have a marketing degree from an accredited college. I have taken classes about promotion and things. These guys were, have been and probably will be terrible. They don't know how to get the promotion of the product to the consumer in the market. It was, has been and probably will be still a major downfall of the record labels.

Sorry to go off on a tangent, but it must be said!

Like the disco song goes: "Burn baby burn" lol...

I have to say I just started downloading and burning a few freestyle and other hard to find songs. Id rather buy the cds, but, since a lot of the freestyle I've been looking for, I can only find on MP3s. I only do it for my on pleasure, and for my sister for a little Christmas present. But, selling them, I think is totally wrong. If nobody wants us downloading/burning than they should keep up with the good songs. For example, like the new Cynthia's Greatest Hits cd , I like the extened versions of Change On Me and Endless Nights, not the shorter edited ones that are on it. But were can you find the cd Cynthia with them on it anymore? Plus, How I Love Him...where can you find that anymore?(mp3s) I would have gotten the new Cynthia cd if they included those versions of songs, and How I Love Him, but it dont. Its alot easier to buy. but, i didnt buy it for that reason. Stuff like that. So thats why I download. It seems to be the only way to find good freestyle anymore. I agree that were all suppossed to support Freestyle and all but, when these people who make all these "Greatest Hits" cds and Compilations should include the the versions WE want to hear. thats my opinon.

I blame mostly on MTV and most radio stations. plus, here in chicago. the radio stations out here suck and we never really hear any freestyle, except sometimes on 92.7 Energy, so i usaully never hear any good freestyle anymore except on places like Audiogalaxy. If radio stations would play it more people would buy it. Honestly everyone I know likes some freestyle. I was playing Diamond Girl, In Paradise, Temptaion, Let Me be the One and Can You Feel the Beat on my Best Freestyle in The Universe Vol.1. in my car and all of my friends were all flipping out "I Love this song!" singing to em and saying they know them from the rollerinks. see if radio and stuff would promote it more I bet it would sell so much better. and we wounldnt have to burn.

2 Make All These Posts Down Into 1 Simple Sentence Is Like This
If You Can Buy And And Know Where to get it? Then Do So...
If U Literally Can't Find It Or Know Where To Buy It? Then Burn It.
Case Closed
Have A Nice Day...😉

Burning

I've never burned a c.d. but I may start.

I enjoy having the originals, and will continue to support the artists who make the music.

However, if a song is hard to find, I would download and burn away.

P.s. to Liz (or any other Rios Sisters fans) If you want their music, go to the links page on my clubfreestyle site. The link is in my signature, and they sell a c.d. through thier site with their four songs on it. "You", "I Don't Want You Back", "Are You Looking For Love" and "Hold Me".

This is kinda off topic, but,
I just bought MicMac Greatest Freestyle Hits Volume 1 today, I was visiting a friend in a little hicktown about 60 miles west of me.. Winchester, VA, and we went to Circuit City. I was surprised to see that CD since I think it's out of print.. and it was only $3.99 too, and it has the Rios Sisters song Hold me.
