Since Miami got a new dance station, I was going to write a paper to the Washington Post editorial section giving some ideas for a Station format change in DC. My question to you guys is; What station in DC should change it's format to be a more dance oriented station. My choice hands down, the three useless stations in DC; WGMS103.5, WAVA105.1 and WFSI 107.9. Even better, Cathy Hughes should take a chance on Radio Ones Flagship station WKYS and make it a more dance oriented station since WPGC is kicking their a$$Ess in the ratings.

Mike😀

yo wazzzup Mike, yo that sounds like a good idea. i think the best station to recieve freestyle-type dance records would be the new 99.5 definately. all the new releases from Safire & Cynthia, Lisette, TKA, etc. would fit in perfectly on that station. however i cant see KYS spinning anything but the occasion old school (let the music play, please dont go, i wonder if i take you home) type records.

definately 99.5!

i didnt know that. that would definately be hot if we could have a station like KTU in the metro area! playing the CONTEMPORARY pop music (i.e. Nelly Furtado, Lenny Kravitz, No Doubt), r&b, hip hop, filtered dance, and old & new freestyle! that would be the perfect station!

a station that plays ANY Destiny's Child is on my blacklist!

Remember back when KYS was killing PGC in the ratings? I guess it just didn't have the staying power.

HOT 99.5 needs to retain its current format for pre-teen and teenage girls, since Z104 changed.. LOL

Honestly I don't know if the D.C. area could support a 24/7 dance oriented radio station.. cities like Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles.. could easily support stations like that, but the D.C. area has tons of people who listen to urban music, and alternative/rock. There aren't that many dance fans here, not nearly as high a percentage as in those other cities. Of course with a radio station pumping the hottest dance tunes, the demographic could change. But I don't know if any of these large corporate radio owners is willing to take such a risk.

The closest thing we have to dance is the friday night trance on 99.1 HFS.

KYS is hot just cuz of Russ Parr & Olivia Fox's morning show. they got the funniest morning show i've ever heard, just pure silly! but after that PGC is what i listen to!

yo, we all gotta hang out sometime - hit a few clubs & stuff! andrea2001 is mad kewl, she's in the metro area too!

Yo MARK, wussup man

I've chatted with Andrea before, yes, she is cool.. I don't think she is online anymore because she left her job and she doesn't have a PC at home. She was supposed to hook me up with a tape of her music which I have never heard, this reminds me that I need to get in touch with her!

Tarp:

wazzup!!! yeah man, she is really nyce, and fly too! i was trying to get a tape of "please don't leave me" but i fell outta contact with her and i lost her number. have you heard that song yet? its kinda breakbeat/freestyle...its sick! off the hook! she got one of those classic high pitch freestyle voices!

also if u get a chance, check out The Platinum Club (NW DC) on thursday nights (college night) - they play mostly hip hop/r&b, pop-house, old school, but they roll out some freestyle up in there too! most clubs out here it either ALL hip hop, or All house, this club mixes it up.

peace out
Mark

In a week, i'll post my article i'm sending to the washington post editorial. I'm defentley going to mentioned that Clasical103.5 WGMS and WAVA105.1 are two useless stations in washington. Classical music has the lowest ratings on radio. Look at Miami, when their classical station turned into a Dance station Hopefully the program directors of those stations will read and get some ideas. If you ask me Z104 should move into a dance format, their new crappy format sucks!!

Mike🙂

Hey Mike -
Well I can't agree with you about removing a classical station, classical music definitely has its place on radio, especially in an educated city like Washington.

But we DO need a dance station badly. If I had my choice, I would turn WKYS into a dance station. Or Z104. Well I can't wait to see your letter to the Post

And Mark -
Dude I have Andrea's voice mail number, if you want to leave her a message. Send me a PM or hit me up on AIM (SN is t4rp). And I havent been to Platinum yet but some of my friends have and they say its tight, i've been to Glow and I can say it was pretty bad, and Diva which is awful (middle eastern club). I should definitely hit platinum sometime though.
