Born & Raised in the Boogie Down!!!
My only question is when are we going to get some NEW freestyle..from the KINGS themselves????
A while back..after some mixed feedback on the Forever album..I believe Tybless..said the boys would be doing a complete freestyle album for thier Hardcore fans...

For the record..You guys are the Best in Freestyle. I have been listening since I was 12..I am 28 now. You guys are my favorite..hands down.

I am notlooking to open a can of worms. I bought the Forever album...it wasn't for me.... I totaly support any & all artists trying new avenues of music & wish them all success. However NOt everyone is going to appreciate the change, be it preference or close mindness!

My thing..is Freestyle, thats what I, along w/ many others are waiting for from TKA. 10 years in the making...
I am not talking new school...style, trip style or whatever else..
I am talking what they HIT us w/ back in the day STYLE.. Scars, One Way, Tears...Maria!
the talent is obvious, they can do anything...ALL I am saying is..DON'T FORGET US.. those there from the begining..those waiting to hear the sounds that STILL rock the house.
I saw you guys in August at OHM...& it was awesome..how everyone sang the words & took us back to the day.
I am not looking to go back..thats what the CD's are for..BUt in 10 years..I want to look back to today..& remember 2002's Scars of love..know what I mean.

Again..God Bless & good Luck in all you do..you've got the support no matter what...thats what true finds wish for you!

Change

"If it ain't broke, then don't try to fix it!"
Will Smith

Some people like the same old thing and others like change.

We must all come to grips with the simple fact that Tony, Kayel, and Angel's needs to express themselves as artists, involved embracing other music genres in addition to Freestyle.

And they felt the need to call themselves TKA.

Could Kayel have released Swing Batta Swing as a TKA album with all the Hip Hop on there and would he have received the same backlash as the new Forever album?

Maybe.

Maybe that’s why he released the album under the moniker K7.

Think about this for a moment though: "Maria" which is probably TKA's biggest hit, was actually slated to be the first single released by K7!

Kayel and Joey Gardner arranged for the single to appear on the Greatest Hits album as a way of saying thank you and goodbye to the TKA fans who gave all their love and support.

Look at *NSync. Their first muti platinum album featured the singles, "Tearing Up My Heart" and the very Freestyle-sounding "I Want You Back". Their next album No Strings Attached featured "Bye, Bye, Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me" which both sounded completely different then the previous singles. On their latest album, Celebrity their first up-tempo single "Pop" sounded nothing like the former mentioned. And their latest R&B single "Gone" with the help of a remix featuring Nelly, has them crossing over to the Urban radio stations.

Through all of this, some fans have stuck with them since day one, while new fans have come and gone.

Madonna has done the same thing. So did the Beatles. So did Ice T.
You don't hear Madonna's latest album including a sound alike copy of "Lucky Star" or Border Lie" do you?

Some have changed with the times, others changed the times.

On the flip side, take a look at Aerosmith. Still rockin' after all these years. They have changed, and matured in sound, but still have that "Aerosmith sound."

But, as anyone knows, Steve Tyler and Aerosmith are not afraid of change, as can be noted with their duet of "Walk This Way" with Run DMC, or their recent performance with *NSync, Britney Spears, Nelly and Mary J Blige, at last year's Super Bowl.

Nobody got this freaked out when the Cover Girls released "Funk Boutique".

Nobody got this freaked out when TKA released "Crash" either.

So what is the big deal about TKA adding some filtered dance tracks, and Latin flavored ballads to their album?

To be continued....

good points

The members of TKA are grown men, you can't expect them
to have the same feel for the OL STUFF THAN THE NEW!
How many of you are still feeling those KINDERGARDEN
SONGS? Well same thing! You've grown up! And now you
sing GROWN UP SONGS!

I don't know - I could see Adam Marano making a Freestyle version of "THE HOKEY POKEY", lmao

Conclusion

This is a letter, dated August 10, 2001, that I was sent by Lisa Brown, of Tommy Boy Records to prepare for the release of TKA Forever.

Tony, K7 and Angel. Together, they are the men of TKA. You remember TKA?… How could you forget! Through the music of the hit-making trio (there were 6 Billboard hits in all!) you learned all about the heartbreak yearning for love in the passionate “Maria”. You felt the power of love in the aggressive “Louder than Love” and the raw sensuality of love in “Come Get My Love”. These are the songs a whole generation of young New Yorkers understood and owned. The music of TKA came from the streets and lived through the streets; the rhythms represented the youthful heartbeat of Spanish Harlem. Through the music of TKA the Freestyle dance movement was born. They were truly Latin Kings!

ENOUGH! Enough of the nostalgia! You’re a grown person now. Your perspective has changed. You’ve got responsibilities that you never DREAMED you’d have when you were 16. You have an important career, and maybe even a family to worry about. Car note, rent, the list goes on and on. As you matured, so did your taste in food, clothes, and yes, even music.

Well you’re not alone! The men of TKA have matured as individuals and as artists. They’ve truly gone from boys to men. Along with their hard won maturity the men of TKA have a new vision and a new sound! A sound that reflects who they are and how far they have come in each of their lives, both together and separately. A sound that remains true to the freestyle roots of the group, but breaks new musical ground for them as well, allowing the group to expand their creative vision beyond the freestyle realm.

On “Feel The Music”, the first single from the TKA Forever album, the shift in their creative gears is evident. The cut, a guaranteed dance-floor burner, incorporates the neo-disco flavor of filtered dance music, yet retains the classic TKA vocals, indelibly marking the track and making it a distinctly TKA song. On “Better Than The Rest”, TKA one again elevate a dance track into a TKA extravaganza by branding the cut with their sizzling signature vocals. On “U Don’t Feel It” the men who created the Latin-pop sound show the world EXACTLY how it should be done, combining Spanish guitars and dance floor percussions to crate an elegant, yet gritty cut; another signature TKA sound. “Say Word”, an etheral ballad showcasing the silky vocals of the group and “Now That U R Gone” a surprising ode to a lost love proves that TKA haven’t lost the passion or emotion they had when they gave us the now classic “Maria”.

So listen without prejudice to the new sound of an old favorite. TKA Forever is slated for release on Tommy Boy Music October 9th and the first single “Feel The Music” on Tommy Boy Silver Label will be in stores on September 4th.

Again this is a letter, dated August 10, 2001, that I received from sent by Lisa Brown, of Tommy Boy Records to prepare for the release of TKA Forever.

Extra Special Bonus DVD Bad Guy Alternate Ending

Notice the letter mentioned nothing about the Freestyle cuts on the album, "In A Manner", "Sexual Fantasy", and "When Will I See You"!
