As I've been noticing in these FORUMS.. Everybody seems to be divided on what FREESTYLE is, was & what it became...

Don't know if someone else started a thread like this but....

What makes a song Freestyle:

And I want everybody to answer!

Don't care if you don't know me, afraid to answer me or whatever!

Let's hear from everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

what makes a freestyle song

personally...i think a freestyle song is sung through your heart and soul. Freestyle is beautiful..and the songs are sung through maybe your own personal experience. What the words say in a song you can relate to..it just captures your heart and some songs make me wanna cry cause they just reach out and touch me!..I guess thats what makes freestyle so beautiful!

...hope that made some sense!🙂

My "Not in the field" Opinion

Although I'm not in this industrie, I think what makes a song a "Freestyle Song" is the Beat.

Lyrics are just Lyrics....everyone sings of a broken heart, lover in distress, or whatever.

AGAIN, It's just my opinion.

🙂😱

TO ME its the words that can describe what ur heart is feeling...the words that u cant say...it brings back memories of the happy and sad times...it reminds u of all those intense emotions u had ever had...there are songs that i say oh that song reminds me of richard, or oh that song reminds me of luis...you know...that kind of thing...then also the awesome beat that accompanies it!!!! 🙂

It is the beat bottom line. You can sing the lyrics over country music & then it will be a country song. It is most definately the beat. But the lyrics have to be about love. Can you just see Cynthia singing Grim Reaper's "See You In Hell" over a Freestyle beat. I think not!

i think it's the lyrics and the way they are sung and of course the phat beat and edits! MORE THE BEAT than the lyrics but i think you can always pin point a freestyle jam just by the way the artist sings it.....yeah everyone in every style of music sings about love but freestyle artist have a unique style of singing those songs that we all love.....

peace

ALEX

That isn't an answer!

I think that we are all doing a good job in contributing to Freestyle's comeback through these FORUMS. You've notice that FREESTYLE is growing every week in all kinds of clubs...If you're a real fan then.........

SPEAK OUT LIKE YOU GOT A PAIR!

I think Alex meant to sing Erik G's (In Effect) song "Here I Go Again" lol

well infinit, i got a pair. how do i know when a song is freestyle:

the notorious voice and most of the time the mono sounds as well as the infamous rhythms ex. here are some notes...(F,F, F,F F, E,E, E,E,E and up from there .... and so on) . beats can vary. the most notorious freestyle beat would most definitely have to be the planet rock one.

FREETSYLE IS WHATEVER IT MEANS TO YOU IT COULD BE HAPPINESS,SADNESS,HEARTBREAK,NEW LOVE,LOVE,HATE,ANGER
JUST LIKE WHATEVER THAT SONG MEANS TO THE ARTIST.....ME PERSONALLY EACH SONG REPRESENTS A DIFFERENT EMOTION OF LOVE OR DIFFERNT STAGE OF LOVE THAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH,IT DEFINITELY HAS PASSION, AND IT IS MUSIC FOR THE SOUL.......PEACE LISA😉

I was hesitant to answer, but since you're so determined to know:

Freestyle songs will contain most of the following elements, but not all elements need to be included to make a song Freestyle.

Beat:

* 4-count beat w/ stress (snare) on 2 & 4. As opposed to disco and house with stress on 1, 2, 3, & 4. (Exception: Radio versions of "Boy I've Been Told" by Safire and "Remember" by Fascination have disco beats.)
* Extra kick drum beats or in between the main 4-count beat.
* Syncopation. 16th-beat high hats. Optional latin percussions.
* 116 to 130 BPM. (Exception: "Within My Heart by Voyce is slower.)

Instruments:

* Syncopation on the bassline. Optional if sycopation on the drum pattern.
* Definite chord progression. Eg. Am, F, G E. Unlike some R&B and Trance songs that don't have chord progression.
* Sythn lead. Think of the synth pattern on the Expose "Point Of No Return", or Cynthia "Endless Night". Optional element is popularized by Freestyle, but occurs in less than half of Freestyle songs. (Exception: "Another Night" by Real McCoy has this synth element, but is not Freestyle.)
* 95% are on the minor key. Gives it a serious, more sadder tone, good for heartbreak-type songs. (Exception: "Did It Feel Like Love" by Genuine Parts is in the major key except for the bridge.)
* Mix of electronic (synth) and "analog" (piano/string) instruments on Classic Freestyle, but less or no analog on Progressive Freestyle.

Lyrics:

* Verses and chorus. (Exception: "Get On It" by Carlos Berrios is instrumental)
* Mostly about love or heartbreak. Few are about dancing. (Exception: "In The City" by Dino.)

Hope this is works for you.

Simply put:

ThE LyRicS...ThE loVe...HeaRtBrEAk...PaIn....JoY...SorRow...ThE RhYthm...ThE BeAt...ThE fAns............

Ladies & Gents

Thanks! For all of your opinions...

I know what Freestyle is because I lived through the era...

But as I still can see from the few who've answered that we are sort of divided on this subject...

I just wanted to see what perspectives are out there when real fans look at Freestyle music...Especially if you still feel the same today, after it's demise in '92...

It seems that most of you never lost touch...WHICH I ADMIRE!

But a few of you are mixing it up with something else and calling it NEW FREESTYLE due to the times.....For those of you that got caught out there, the record companies/industry succeded in fooling you. They really don't believe in FREESTYLE... So they will try to F*ck it up and add it to the word....."Pogressive, Regressive, Aggressive, etc..." which is just plain stupid...

Be more realistic...A change in Freestyle will bring it's destruction as well as hoping to bring it back... I said before that no one hates the way OLD SCHOOL FREESTYLE songs were done...Just maybe a few of you are tired of hearing one or two specific ones...

Hey maybe I'm just old fashioned...But I know good music when I hear it...I definately am not part of this confused generation...And sure hell know FREESTYLE when I hear it!

The question asked: What is Freestyle
Not
Do you still support the ORIGINAL Freestyle music.

I think EVERYONE who looks at this post has to admit they care about freestyle and want to comment on it, or wants to know the status of the response from fans and/or media itself.

I LOVE FREESTYLE, ANYWAY, SHAPE OR FORM.

BE WELL ALL...

P.S.
JACK, WHY R-U NOT POSTING A COMMENT HERE? Hmmmm?

Freestylevet

NO!

The question is:

What makes a song FREESTYLE...

Anything else quoted by you on my last post was my opinion...
