I just got this email from Joel and I[m really excited about what he had to say. Here is the text
Hey Mike-
I loaded up the segment of the mix show you sent. I think I'm going to try playing it back "on the air" later tonight and see how it sounds. I'm a little concerned that once it gets through my audio processing and then gets digitally squashed again down to a 64K interent stream, it's gonna sound like hamburger but it's worth a shot. We'll see how it sounds. Just FYI...I am in the process of getting some new mix show programming together...both current and "classic". It all just takes a little time. I'm kind of a "one man band" here and this all gets done in between a pretty hectic work schedule but it's comin'.
I'll let ya know how this works. Gonna try to get it on after about 10PM tonight.
Thanks.
JS

Listening to "Video Killed The Radio Star" I remember Hot 103 playing this summer 86'

Yarbrough and Peoples-"Don't Stop The Music" reminds me of 92ktu and 98.7 Kiss

Listening to the classic Hot 97 Sat Nite Dance Party mix it sounds great I think but I might be a little biased 🙂

you heard it from me first and trust me big things are gonna be happening with joel....this is all i can tell the board for now..sorry for the tease...

Its funny nobody had contact with Joel after all these years but now everybody seems to know him.

I recorded the mix off the radio broadcast last night because I missed when it started I was driving to work at the time. I must have lost the stream but I recorded enough to say it sounded really good until it got to the end of the mix. Then the audio quality was poor so I guess Joel switched back to his regular play list which is understandable.

I've been listening to the Original HOT 97 very frequently for the last few days, ever since I heard that "Hot 97 is back". Well, here's my honest opinion of the station, now that I've been listening alot.

Although I enjoy listening to the station, and I was really excited about hearing the station ID's, I must admit that I am now somewhat dissapointed in the station. I was expecting the station be about 80% of the classic Hot 97 music from the 80's and 90's, and only about 20% of the new music. However, it seems like it's totally the other way around, with the emphasis being on current dance tracks, and songs from after 1994. Only a small percentage of what they play are hits that were actually played on the old Hot 103 and Hot 97 FM.

To me, it kinda defeats the purpose of calling the station "The Original HOT 97". I think the whole idea is to bring in the audience of listeners who remember the old HOT 97, and loved listening to it regularly back in the day. However, if 75% of what they are playing is music that was never played on HOT 97, I am not sure that they will be able to attract that target audience.
Not that I have anything against the new music they are playing, but I get much more excited about hearing classic dance and freestyle hits from the 80's and 90's. To be honest, I really prefer listening to "The Boss" (South Jersey) which specializes in that type of music.
