It's been mentioned here that for this station to succeed, more classic music needs to be played. I agree with that. Because I can hear today's current hits anywhere. My feelings are that people are in need of a positive, happy, high-energy, motivational, mood improving station. The music doesn't necessarily need to be new. It doesn't.

Good music puts people in good moods. The ONLY new music that should be making it to this station are new HITS. If Britney Spears has a new hit, play it. The old station played plenty of Debbie Gibson back in the day. So that's fine. But only play the hit songs. You can tell when a song is going to take off. I've never been wrong when hearing a song and saying to myself, "wow, this is going to be a hit". I either have some ungodly talent or anybody can tell - I tend to believe the latter.

Don't play new material that's not going to be considered a hit. There are plenty of classic hits that will make people tune-back in to hear more.

And regarding HD radio. I still don't get the concept this day and age of having a radio station that can only be heard locally. Satelite radio can bring an incredibly large audience. Why anybody would rather cover only a small area with even worse, only a small amount of HD capable listeners, is beyond me...

Here's to success...

Sal you are so wrong! People dont want to hear classic music they want to hear new cutting edge dance music that is why the old hot 97 succeeded and the current KTU and Mix FM failed. We dont need to hear the major pop hits but more of the dance songs that are being played in the clubs by the leading djs.

Pete, not for nothing but I want to hear classics over the new crap thats on the radio and in the clubs. I know whats in the clubs and I really dont like it. it just doesnt fit my nature. I prefer the 80's and 90's music that you dont hear anymore. freestyle, house and techno.

I took notice that the TLH numbers have been continually rising. They were above 3,900 now there 4,300 more listening hours. Thats a good thing!
I don't know if anyone has looked at the TLH numbers (6,015 THL) for the station but they have almost doubled since I posted them on 4/12. I think people are really enjoying the station.

Thats because most of the new stuff is total crap but there is tons of new great house and dance tracks out that deserve a chance to be heard on the airwaves. The station is great the way it is thats why its getting so many listeners.

not for nuthin but everytime i tune in . im hearin the same old dance ,TRANCE and house rather then all the original freestyle that was the signature of the station back in the day🙄 to furhter elaborate i wanna hear some hardcore "roots" freestyle , i dont care to hear and metero sexual house or trance or dance which is a constant sellout factor on all the so called "internet radio" sector claiming "freestyle" but instead delivering the "RICHARD SIMMONS GAY MARATHON DANCE MIX EXTRAVAGANZA"

Joel Salkowitz is running this station to get a name for himself out there for the radio industry. A Classic 80s and early 90s dance format would never work on free radio (HD or terrestial). A station like this is more viable to the masses and quite honestly people want to hear new dance music. More people in the New York Metro area want to hear cutting edge dance then the same old gold hits of freestyle and 80s dance music. Plus the original hot was not about being old music but new music the other stations were not playing which since it was the 80s mostly freestyle.

Pete, alot of people that are into the "newer" dance music of today are already hating terrestrial radio and love satelite all the way and most say they will never go back. I think both terrestrial and satelite suck. I want the ORIGINAL HOT 97 back.

I want to hear new dance but frankly from what I heard already makes my ears bleed. I want something with lyrics, not mind pounding beats that will give me a headache. no thanks but marriage is enough of a headache!

First of all having satellite radio for over 3 years I would agree that satellite stinks with dance music as well. But I dont mean hardcore tracks which are usually instrumentals but more like dance pop hits like the old Hot 97 played. I consider myself a huge 80s dance music fanitic cause thats my roots are and that is why I call myself Freestyle Pete but come on its over 20 years already and time to move on and enjoy new sounds and give a new type of dance music a chance.

Just got a email from Joel things are going to pickup with new mixes coming on board. Here is the text from the email.
Hey Mike-
Thanks for sending these mixes. I hope, by early next week, to have a fairly steady supply of CURRENT mixes that I will use to create a Sat Nite Dance Party. They are all from names you will know. There will probably be a regular freestyle mix coming shortly as well.
Everyone has been great about sending me material for this. I've heard from a lot of people that are interested in providing weekly mixes for the show. I'm gonna back off on the stuff that was recorded off the air. Once it goes through another round of audio processing and then hits the internet, it's pretty "crunchy". I know the people that are real fans probably don't mind the less than stellar audio, but I want to keep the quality as high as possible at all times. With these new mix shows, I will be able to accomplish both...great programming as well as the best technical quality possible over the internet (at 64KB!!). Time permitting, the first one should hit the air this weekend.
Thanks again for all you help and interest with this. The mix shows you sent me added some spice. Hopefully, this will now take it up to another level.

I hope they will announce times for the mixes so people will know when to tune in.

I replied back to Joel and asked him to let me know when the mixes will air. If he responds back to me I post any info about mix times and days.
