What do I consider "REAL" Freestyle...The music that was created from it's inception in 1983, it's infancy in 1984-1985, it's adolesence 1986-1988, it's "glory years" 1989-1991 up until it's said fall from grace in 1992.

The years 1993-1995 were ok, but not great. 1996 saw some great releases but the CrapStyle movement already began it's assault...

I'm sorry to say, but he's right!

You can mix a hip hop beat and put some freestyle flava to it. You can add a fat rhyme to something freestyle. People, lets not live in a dream world. In a dreamworld , all freestyle artists would be grammy award winners and they music all over the charts. The reality is,HIP HOP THAT HAS ALL THAT, NOT FREESTYLE!! SO, I know there are plenty of DJ's , Producers, and Artists that are talented enough to make this fusion happen. Let's drop the CRAP about the smoking blunts, the gats, and the bitches cause it does not have to be that way. You guys can sit and cry all you want to about, I WISH WE HAD FREESTYLE LIKE IT WAS BACK IN THE DAY!!! Cause it ain't happening. Time to EVOLVE AND CREATE SOMETHING BETTER!!!

TAZ NOW THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT BRO HOLLLAAAAAAAAAA LETS DO THIS YA TU SABES WHAT THE DEAL IS OVA HEAAA 🙂

its true that more than likely a rap/freestyle track would probably get more airplay which is what people want, but then again freestyle must remain freestyle no matter what direction it goes, and not turn gangsta. as far as a collabo, im not against it as long as it has a hot beat with a small verse and the focus does not shift only to the rapper! Angie martinez would be a cool collaberator since she was "the 5th swing kid". thats my opinion.

I have 3 thoughts on this subject:

1. You can only evolve freestyle so much before it isn't freestyle anymore.

2. Although fusing Freestyle with Hip-Hop may gain new fans, you also risk alienating the true hard-core fans (believe it or not, there are many freestyle fans who don't like hip-hop).

3. What is your objective? To make freestyle more mainstream? or make it better? They aren't necessarily the same thing!

We can;t call it "freestyle" anymore. the name is very "dated" and people will not listen to something that is 20 years old. The name has to change in order to survive.

THATS THE THING THOUGH OLD THE HARD CORE OLD SCHOOL FANS WANT TO PRESERVE IT AS IT WAS AND THAT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE EVERY OTHER GENRE HAS CHANGED ON SO MANY LEVELS HIP-HOP BEING AMJOR ONE LOOK AT NELLY HE IS CONSIDERED POP MORE SO THEN HIP-HOP 🙂

So you say it's straight if freestyle fuses with hip-hop...just as long the artist doesn't mention weed...liquor...or getting nasty. But that is real life. Look, I'm from the south side of chicago. Where everything you're say not to mention is real where I come from. I'm not saying every song has to be hard. But there's some latin thugs that listen to freestyle still. So it is real. If an artist doesn't know anything about pushing weight, hanging on corners...then they shouldn't sing about it. I'm gonna use myself as an example. I've been involved with the street life since I was a shorty. Singing was my outlet while others were able the rap. Like I said, I grew up listen to TKA, DZYRE, Johnny O all that great music. I just thing the whole hip-hop fusion would be hitting people like me, and the people that are still in hood. Someone said maybe freestyle needs a name change...maybe that person's right.

I understand where everyone is comming from. All I'm saying is that Freestyle used to use fuse hip hop in their songs or am I wrong? TKA's Maria, Lissette Melendez's, Together Forever, and many many more. I'm not saying completely transform it into "Rap" music and talka bout bitches, cars and all that stuff. I'm talking about the music itself not the lyrics. Freestyle used to feel more "street" if you will. And maybethis is my opinion but I dont think some of the new stuff feels very connected to the streets to me. Don't get me wrong, there are some exceptions. Keep in my that this is only an idea.

Hmmm.....Will..lol....If you add Rappers in to the game is not a Freestyle song anymore. Why? you ask because Rappers will not rap on a freestyle track....Hello I think Fat Joe and others perform in MA and dis Freestyle I think about 1 or 2 years back at a PR Fest. But guess what it will not make a difference. You are you and Only you can work hard and Bust your @$$ to do it right. Using elements like K7 said thats great, I've done it and many others will do and done it. Dm Stilo you said quote:"freestyle fuses with hip-hop...just as long the artist doesn't mention weed...liquor...or getting nasty. But that is real life." Come on bro unless your a drug dealer you know it ain't about liquor weed, and getting nasty.

You also said quote: "That's not all hip-hop's about. Why does a freestyle song always got to be about "She left me...I don't know what to do"."
Sorry to say but is not only about her/he is leaving me, is about me/her is leaving you, is about I can't find the right one, you left me for another, I left you, about a child, about the world. Is REAL! I can name you many songs about different freestyle songs with tittles and is not the same songs. and you talk about how Rap fade and got destroy, if it wasn't for Real Rapper with Talents, with Greath strong Elements, With Style and Originality you wouldn't have these rappers of today. Artists like Run DMC, Grand Master Flash and the Furious 5, UTFO, Doug E Fresh, NWA, Slick Rick, KRS 1, Big Daddy Kane, and many more just to name a few now those were real Rappers and talk about the real thing. You come here and talk about Hip Hop of today, but where did they get their ideas from? Disco, old R&B songs, and Oldschool Rap. My Friend I respect the thought you came out, but really it ain't the way we all hope to be, do i want freestyle to stay Underground? No! Do I want it to go far like Generation of Hip Hop did? Yes.....Take care......
BTW
Puff Daddy ain't real, Making money $Millions.......making money of everybody else Priceless......

Yo LN, I hear what you sayin'. Maybe the fans of freetyle wont mind a lil' change. And what you say about how some rap artist dont want to flow a freestyle track might be beacuase of some of the bad rep. our freestyle has gotten. And for the rappers who don't wanna feature on track...well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 'em. It's the same way some freestyle artist turn their back on today's hip-hop because they think it's all about pimpin' and ballin'. Look hommie, i've seen ya name all over some of these freestyle sights, so I'm guessin' you been around for a fews years. Would you like to take your music to that other level. Maybe you alreay have, and I dont know. But if your able to make a living off of your talent alone...then don't change a think. But if you're not...it wont hurt to try a lil' something new.

DMStilo yes I have been around for a long time, been performing since 89'. I had 3 songs out which thank god have been successful, none compares to my first song which Chicago play the hell out off which is what got us known..."Nunca" was the name of the song that was release by Stylin Free Records in 96' and we went by the artistic name "Lanation". Until this day everybody still requested and still love to perform it. Your right it don't hurt to try new things, like I said I don't fear new venture, but think about will they do it? thats more of a question......in my last song that I did "Eres Mi Vida" was done with hiphop beats and latin Hiphop sounds, but I also included Latin Reggae done by Los Atrevidos. I got me to place that I didn't know I could go and in MA it got pick up lovely as well for Chicago, Philly, and many other places.....so lets see what the future brings....God Bless
Alex

Exactly Mike! Listen to Carlos Berrios' After Dark cd, Bethany End of the Game has a heavy hip hop feel. All of Carlos' work is exceptional and continues to grow and be influenced by new styles. Using hip hop has been done in freestlye and I think it sounds great and would appeal to more people and get more attention. Who doesn't love a hip hop beat and then put together with freestyle vocals it's a hot combination.
