WHY DO RAPPERS THINK THEY CAN ACT???????THEY CANNOT!!!!!
WHY DO SINGERS WANT TO BE ACTORS OR VICE VESA?
JUST BECAUSE JENNIFER LOPEZ can successfully do both-does not mean everyone can.

JAMIE FOXX-a good comedian,but everytime I see him singing. I am reminded of "IN LIVING COLOR"-no matter how good he sings,I cannot take him seriously,plus he shows so much jealousy that JENNIFER has done it and he can not.

MADONNA-lets face it,she is an awesomely bad actress "A DANGEOUS GAME","BODY OF EVIDENCE","WHOS THAT GIRL","SHANGHAI SURPRISE",ETC.the list goes on and on..she sucks as anactress and is just ok as a singer.

L.L. COOL J/EMINEM/MASTER P/FAT JOE/ICE T/VANILLA ICE/ICE CUBE/ETC..99% of rappers/hiphop just portray themslves-thats not acting,I boycott any film that stars a RAP/HIP HOPartists,thats another way for them to make a quick buck.

MARIAH CAREY-her acting is emotionless "GLITTER" has proven that,she also alot of the times does not sing with emotion either,great vocals-but good singer,not.DOES she have a heart,whats wrong with her?

GREAT ACTORS/SINGERS-BARBARA STREISAND "THE WAY WE WERE".....
CYNDI LAUPER-wins emmy award for "MAD ABOUT YOU" and got rave reviews for starring opposite CHISTOPER WALKEN in "THE OPPORTUNISTS",MADONNA wishes she can be this good.
DEBORAH HARRY-"HAIRSPRAY"EtC..very good actress.ALSO.................
DIANA ROSS-"LADY SINGS THE BLUES",JUDY GARLAND,RITA MORENO,JENNIFER LOPEZ,WILL SMITH,ETC...all can sucessfully do both.
 
FRANKIE NEGRON in "BORICUAS BOND" bad acting-should stick to SALSA.
MARC ANTHONY-can sucessfully do both and very good,he is an excellent singer and actor-a true artist,which is rare.
MICHAEL JACKSON-"THE WHIZ","CAPTAIN EO","MEN IN BLACK 2",not good,we all know is not a serious actor.
BRITNEY SPEARS-like MARIAH is emotionless-bad actor,must of got acting lessons from MADONNA.

JANET JACKSON-is just ok,she is caught in the middle of good & BAD.

IRENE CARA of "FAME" is both an excellent actor and singer.

DAVID BOWIE is a pretty good actor in films "TWIN PEAKS' an "LABYRINTH".

PRINCE who I LOVE IN 'PURPLE RAIN', but shows bad acting in films "UNDER THE CHERRY MOON' AND "GRAFFITI BRIDGE".

DAPHNE-RUBEN VEGA-can do both and good,"RENT".

VANITY-did both like "ACTION JACKON" ,"BERRY GORDY'LAST DRAGON" , "52 PICKUP,is like JANET J,caught in the middle of good &bad,so is APOLLONIA KOTERO of"PURPE RAIN & "FALCON CREST".

The thing you're forgetting, is, that they are ENTERTAINERS.

Some start off with one passion (either Music, or Acting, or Modeling, or Dancing), & then start to explore or showcase the others that they can do (or think they can).

Regardless, they do it because they want to, & they're comfortable, & dont honestly care what anyone thinks - (Thats the spirit).
As long as they fullfilled a goal, are happy, & are getting PAID,
who cares what anyone thinks!

I honestly beleive that LL Cool J, Will Smith, & others listed are good actors. & Remember, its not always the acting, its the character they want YOU to play as well. There have been big-time actors who have been turned down by many casting people for small big & films because they diddnt have that quality they wanted for a certain character, & thus may be given to a newcomer who has it. 🙂

As for Madonna, u know how I feel about her. She is my #1 artist.
I know she isnt the greatest actress, & SHE knows it, but still does it & has fun doing it regardless.
With all the sh*t she went through to get started, left home with only $37 in her pocket to become dancer, living in the alleys of NYC with nothing to eat but an occasional bag of popcorn, & was part of the whole early breakdancing scene in NYC, & kicked off her career with the early sounds of this music, gone through all the changes, & now today a 'thee' DIVA, & is STILL wurkin' it over 20yrs later, thats some shiat!
& NO ONE can take that away from her!
Trashy or not, I give her props 100%

Versatility's what makes an actor good in my opinion.

Rita Moreno (West Side Story, Oz)
Aaliyah (Romeo Must Die, Queen of the Damned)
LL Cool J. (Out of Sync, In Too Deep, In the House)
Ice Cube (Boyz N The Hood, Friday)
Queen Latifah (Set It Off, Chicago)

I personally feel these guys are pretty good all-around entertainers. they each played a character that was a complete 360 from the previous character they played. Rita Moreno played an average, everyday woman onto a tough jailhouse psychologist (w/loads of other roles in between). Aaliyah went from your everyday, average person to queen of the living dead. LL went from a club promoter to a bad cop and then onto an in-house babysitter. Cube played bad azz kid who never really grew up and most recently plays a barbershop owner. Queen Latifah went from a wild azz, gun-toting dyke to a Depression-era showgirl. They all picked good roles to show that there ARE some talented singers who CAN act as well (in some cases simultaneously).

Ok, we're all the topic here... we are talking about performers who can do both, right? :confused :lol

Yeah, some of them should keep to their "actual" talent... like a singer sticking to singing or an actor sticking to acting....

But I do have to disagree with some votes here....

Just three descriptions... either I think they are "good" "ok" "bad"...

Performer Singer/Rapper Acting
Will Smith... 1st job - Good Good
Jennifer Lopez 1st job? - Ok Good
Ice Cube 1st job - Good Good
Whitney Houston 1st job - Good OK - Good
Mariah Carey 1st job - Good bad-good
Queen Latifah 1st job - Good Good

Ok, now that I just reread everyone's votes, I realized that I don't think anyone is "really" bad at the other. But like Franie stated... some times it's hard for us to except an artists as something else.... Jamie Foxx does have a really nice voice (couldn't believe that was him singing), but his cross over is going to be hard because .. for me, I'm waiting for him to say or something someting funny during the song.

Granted, Mariah, Brittany, Madonna, to name a few really aren't good so they need to definitely take some classes because there is potential there.

WELL for jamie foxx-to me he does not have the look and is not likeable as a singing artist.But than again there are alot of ugly singers,maybe if people forget about his cross-dressing on "IN LIVING COLOR"he might make it,not!

Jamie Foxx is a good singer. He's the vocalist on Twista & Kanye West's "Slow Jamz". Though I do agree, it is hard to take him as a singer. Maybe if he had done more drama in his acting career it would've been a smoother transition. Cuz it's pretty damn hard to forget him as "Wanda"!

You have to be attractive to be a singer? In that case, there's quite a few acts that missed that memo!
 
jennifer lopez is way overated in all catergories including her 'ass' which i never understood so many articles about her boriqua ass.. any guy driving through the bronx on any given day just seeing the mamis walking would say "jennifer who?" the bronx is the capitol of booty they should just rename the bronx "bootyville" lol (must be the water) "dont be fooled by the butt that i got im still im still jenny not alot" please!!!!
