I guess someone offered her husband a million dollars if he puts it back in... Not trying to be mean but i hope her husband feels guilty and horrible for the rest of his life it hurts so much to see that... Man!!! I am happy i have my grandfather....

when i 1st heard about the case... it made me cry... no one deserves that.. NO ONE!! not even animals...

ok.............this is a very hot topic.

If you are gonna post your opinions here, please be calm about it, and respect everyone else's opinions.

I think that tube should've been removed 15 years ago. I say that because I've had to go through this myself, two years ago.

My grandmother (Mom's mom) was placed in an Alzhiemer's facility. We watched her go from someone who we were able to understand, to someone who walked around aimlessly, talking nonsense and yelling at people who weren't there.

She never smoked a day in her life, but living with my grandfather, who smoked 3 packs a day, left her with a case of Emphysema. Her lungs were filling with fluid, and she had a difficult time breathing, eating, and going to the bathroom by herself. The facility had an ambulance pick her up and take her to a hospital, where she was subjected to treatments, needles, and other things.

She had always said she did not want to be kept alive by artificial means. the hospital was doing that, so we removed her, and took her back to the Alzhiemer's facility. We told them not to use any extreme means for her, and to over-medicate her, so that she was comfortable.

They followed our instructions, and put gram in a special room. They had freshly painted it, and hung some pictures, and put in a tv, and moved a bed in for my mom, who stayed there with her. Gram had no food or water for 2 days. Nurses came in every 4 hours to over medicate her, so she was comfortable. She could do nothing for herself. After those two difficult days, gram died.

It was a very difficult decision, but it was what gram would've wanted.

On a side note, after this experience, the Alzheimer's facility decided to keep that room as a "hospice" room, for other families who decide to do what we did.

It is now know as the "Beatrice Ficarro Hospice Room", named after gram.

I am sorry Chuck but Like i said if it wasnt for the Machines my grandfather wouldnt be here the doctors said he wouldnt make it we took the time and we been doing this for 2 years He is getting stronger everyday before he couldnt talk or eat or move his hands no he can do it all and more i thank those machines I figure if i can do it they can too
be honest chuck do you think what her husband is doing is right I dont Her family will take her... Shes a cousin a aunt a friend a daughter... How can someone so mean take that away from them and her thats my opinions I am sorry for my language but i am burning with flames and i am so hurt

Sorry I agree with Chuck. This poor woman has been in the same state for 15 years. If big improvements would be made it would have already. This woman has no means to a happy and productive life. I can understand that the family would miss her, but to keep her alive just for the sake of being barely alive, is actually an act of selfishness. As for the husband having alterior motives, well god will judge him but I still think this is the best course for this woman. And finally, yes I would hope my family would do the same for me.

Don't apologize for your language. You haven't said anyhthing wrong.

It's a sad situation.

Everyone is coming down hard on the husband. They call him an adulterer for having a girlfriend. He says the doctors tell him there is no hope. Why should he spend his life alone, with no one to comfort him? Terry is unable to commnunicate, and unable to love him.

Yes, she is alive, because of that tube. If the tube was removed 15 years ago, we wouldn't be having this discussion now.

Others are also talking about a lawsuit where he will be getting money when she dies. Where do you think that money is gonna go? She's been in the hospital getting treatment for 15 years. Can you imagine how much the medical bills are for her? Let me give you an example. My friend's father was in the hospital for a year, going through treatment for cancer. He was over 65, so he had medicare. He had benefits as a former fireman. He also had his Navy coverage. There were still bills that had to be paid. One of the daughters is an accountant. She had copies of all the bills, an decided to add them up, to see how much the family would've had to pay, if he didn't have those benefits. She said she stopped adding when the total reached $1.5 million, and she hadn't reached the bottom of the pile of bills. I don't know much about Terry, but I think we can say she wasn't in the navy, and not a fire fighter.

And here is something else. To turn her over to her parents, her husband would have to divorce her. So suppose her family decides to get some revenge for all they've been through, and they say: "Terry is still alive. You are responsible for half of her medical bills, plus alimony, and any other needs she may have due to her condition."

This has gone on for far too long. The fact of the matter is, she can't eat, drink, bathe or go to the bathroom on her own. If that tube was removed, she wouldn't be here.

One last thing. Someone on the news said that "if Terry were a dog, her husband would be charged with cruelty to animals, for doing what he is doing."

That's right. Because if Terry were a dog, he would have the option to PUT HER TO SLEEP TO END HER SUFFERING.

I was so happy that the courts are ruling not to intervene... instead of letting their daughter die in peace & with some respect they've opted to prolong her suffering... her husband gave it a long time, doctors said she was never coming around, the right & moral thing to do would've been to pull the plug a long time ago... i think her family, the protesters, and anyone else who wants to have her feeding tube reinserted are just sick & should be ashamed of themselves, they should mind their own business & respect what Terry, her husband and the doctors have already decided...

sorry chuck but i am getting the vibe that the reason she is in this mess is that her husband put her in this mess i.e. domestic violence

Obviously you have no idea behind QUALITY of life. She is in a Vegetative state. No Brain Activity. Naturally the Heart, Lungs, and digestive track work without conscious knowledge because those organs are designed that way.

The media is running old footage. You need to realize that. So ask yourself this, would you rather have your Wife suffer in a vegetative state as opposed to being with your god?

I for one and RL4U have made plans to go get our Living Wills done at West Point JAG office. NO WAY IN HELL WILL EITHER OF US BE MADE TO SUFFER AT THE HANDS OF SOME LIBERAL ASS BIOTCH who thinks religion should come before quality of life.

My wife is religious and all, but where's the happiness in living on your back, no brain waves, being kept alive with a feeding tube? Is that how you plan on living your life out?

Its pretty lame to starve someone for 2 to 4 weeks. She isn't on life support she is on a feeding tube. Big difference. They say that she is in a vegetated state. but no one really knows if she will ever get out of it. NO ONE. No doctor, no priest NO ONE. Her husband has alot to gain if she dies. life insurance. If she lives he don't get squat and thats that.
She is able to breathe on her own, her organs function on their own. Removing the feeding tube makes your organs shut down one by one. first are you kidneys, then after everything else. so if her kidneys give out and she goes under cardiac arrest she goes in comfort? No she doesn't. But because she is in a vegetated state I suppose she don't feel anything. How does any one know for sure what she is feeling.
They had a man who the doctors claimed was in a vegetated state also and that there was nothing that anyone could do for him yet he proved the doctors wrong and he is able to say some phrases on his own. cry and laugh.
The neurologist who diagnosed her didn't even give her an examination he just simply looked at her and made his diagnoses. The courts are going with this? Aren't they supposed to have solid proof? I can understand that if she died within minutes but we are talking two weeks to 4 weeks and organs shutting down because of lack of food. This is not humane. It's not mercy. It's murder.

As for your grandmother Chuck I am so sorry you had to go through that. Alzheimers disease is a serious disease that there is no cure for. As the years go by they deteriorate mentally and their organs start to shut down. Recently they found that it is some type of blockage that goes on in the brain that attacks where the memory is. They still don't understand it and they can't do anything to stop it. althought they have managed to find out this much they still working on at least finding out what causes these blockages.

I'm sorry but if it takes a damn "FEEDING TUBE" to keep me alive, then pull that shit right out. For all I'm concern I'm dead. If I can't do whatever I want I am dead. Kill me off. What's the damn use of living if I can not enjoy life. Let me be. Why do people hold on to a body. It's just a damn shell. The person that I really am is my soul not a damn shell.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - After a federal appeals court panel rebuffed them yet again, Terri Schiavo's parents made another desperate attempt to keep their brain-damaged daughter alive, telling a judge that she tried to say "I want to live" just minutes before her feeding tube was removed a week ago.

Pinellas Circuit Judge George Greer was expected to announce a decision by noon Saturday on the motion by Bob and Mary Schindler claiming their daughter said "AHHHHH" and "WAAAAAAA" when asked to repeat the phrase "I want to live."

The appeal is seen as a long shot because Greer was the judge who ordered Schiavo's feeding tube removed March 18. Doctors have said Schiavo's previous utterances were involuntary moans consistent with someone in a vegetative state.

Attorneys for Michael Schiavo, Terri's husband, argued the Schindlers had abandoned all pretense of the law and were simply making "a pure emotional appeal." Michael Schiavo says his wife would not want to be kept alive artificially.

State and federal courts have repeatedly ruled against the Schindlers, who grew increasingly anguished as their daughter entered her second week without the tube that sustained her for 15 years.

Doctors have said the 41-year-old woman would probably die within a week or two of the tube being removed. By Friday, dehydration was taking its toll. Terri Schiavo's tongue and eyes were bleeding and her skin was flaking off, said Barbara Weller, the Schindlers' attorney.

"Terri is weakening. She's down to her last hours. Something has to be done and has to be done quick," said Bob Schindler, who visited his daughter Friday morning. After a later visit, he added: "I told her that we're still fighting for her, and she shouldn't give up because we're not. But I think the people who are anxious to see her die are getting their wish."

Schindler attorney David Gibbs III urged Greer to act quickly on the motion filed Friday because he expected "Terri to step into eternity this Easter weekend." George Felos, the attorney for Michael Schiavo, said the belief Terri Schiavo can speak was "crossing the line" into an abuse of the legal system.

Earlier Friday, a three-judge panel of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta denied another appeal by the Schindlers, saying it had already ruled on most of the issues and other issues raised did not apply to the case.

It marked the third time in four days the court had denied an emergency request made by Schiavo's parents. Attorneys for the Schindlers said they planned to appeal, but would wait until Saturday morning.

Bob Schindler also pleaded with Gov. Jeb Bush to intervene by taking temporary custody of their daughter while court challenges are argued.

"With the stroke of his pen, he could stop this," Bob Schindler said. "He's put Terri through a week of hell and my family though a week of hell. I implore him to put a stop to this. He has to stop it. This is judicial homicide."

Bush, who has been a staunch supporter of the Schindlers, said Thursday he is not willing to go beyond the boundaries of his powers and that he was hoping the courts would provide relief.

The FEEDING TUBE IS LIFE SUPPORT. If she cant be fed via her throat, how will she receive nurishment? Better yet feed herself? Is that how you would like to live? Some people have a different view in Life and how to live it. Obviously you would like to live in it and be a burden to your loved ones. That is your opinion and it is respected. But your opinion should NOT be forced onto others who do not believe in it. Kind of like the Religion issue.

And why are you so hell bent on what he would receive? Nevermind the monetary value. You are missing the big picture here. The picture is QUALITY of LIFE.

SHE IS BRAIN DEAD. The ORGANS DO NOT NEED BRAIN FUNCTION TO WORK. She has been in this state now for over 15 years. How much longer must she suffer because of the opinions of those who think she will get better?

Everyone is in titled to Quality of Life. Living it on your back with a feeding tube and no Brain Activity is not Quality of Life. That is the Inevitability of Death.

"We are continuing to do whatever we can, and we are pursuing all the options available to us in this case," Bush spokesman Jacob DiPietre said.

Terri Schiavo suffered brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped briefly from a chemical imbalance believed to have been brought on by an eating disorder. She left no living will.

She went without food and water in 2003 when the feeding tube was removed for six days and five hours. It was reinserted when Bush and the Legislature pushed through a law that was later thrown out by the state Supreme Court.

Outside the hospice, eight more people — including a 10-year old boy and 13-year-old twin girls — were arrested Friday for trying to bring her water.

"I don't want her to die," Joshua Heldreth, 10, from North Carolina, said before his arrest. "I'm not afraid because God is with me."

A handful of protesters remained outside Terri Schiavo's hospice overnight.

"I'm so discouraged, I feel so helpless," said Christine Ambrusko, a student from Atlanta. "I don't know how in our civilized country we can allow a person to be starved to death with so many questions unanswered."

Also Friday, the FBI (news - web sites) said a man was arrested in Fairview, N.C., on charges of sending an e-mail threat, allegedly for offering a $250,000 bounty for Michael Schiavo's death and $50,000 for that of a judge in the case. The FBI did not identify the judge.

Richard Alan Meywes allegedly sent the e-mail Tuesday to two Tampa-area news organizations and the host of a national conservative talk show, the FBI said.

Meywes was taken into custody at his home and charged with murder for hire and with the transmission of interstate threatening communications, the FBI said.

If convicted, Meywes could face up to 15 years in prison and fines up to $500,000, federal prosecutors said.

I know... its the thought of letting go of someone you taken care of for so long.
like i said, look at my grandfather, he was the same now he can talk eat breath on his own move his body so there is always hope... but I get your point why suffer i wouldnt but if her family wants her okay leave it to rest thats their child would you let your child or someone you loved let them go if so there is no faith always have faith... I did and still do for my grandfather and i am happy he is here...

I'm sorry. They don't want to put the tube in for her sake, they want to for theirs and that's just selfish. I swear if my family tried this stuff on me I'd haunt them for eternity.

Just a gentle reminder people, to keep the replies respectful.

We've all be able to do that so far, but topics like this can make people heated.

Remeber that not every feels the same way, and everyone's opinion is to be respected.
