In NYC handling my biz!!!!
Has anybody here ever coordinated a Sweet 16? My daughter is going to be 16 in April 2005 and of course I would like to have a very nice sweet 16 party for her. The prices out there to rent a catering hall are outrageous. 😱

Any tips, suggestions, etc?........... HEEEEEEEELLLLLPPPPPPP!!!!!! :lol

Oh, your in for it!!! LOL LaBetty, its like organizing a wedding just smaller! I remember when my parents gave me one for my birthday, it was like I was a princess ball!

When my neice had her sweet sixteen she had a theme (Black & White Affair) .. its always a fun thing! Good luck! I'm sure you'll make your daughter's birthday bash a dream come true! 😉

One good tip, is to start planning early!!!!

I could see I'm going to get a headache from planning. My main problem is the catering hall. :bangbang

OMG I didn't have one but I helped coordinate it-

try to find a community center - not a catering hall...... and see if there are local spanish restaurants that cater- OR ( and I like this option) have people help cook the food... it's great if you're on a budget.
Also make sure that if anything, the soda is unlimited and have the guests pay for their own beer/drinks...chances are ya gon have alottt of lil kids so the soda is a good choice

I agree with Liz. A catering hall is great, but there are more reasonable ones out there. If not, settle for a community room (some let you have the room till 4 a.m.). I understand that you as a parent want to go all out, but don't go too crazy. The kids, as well as everyone else, are going to have fun regardless. Just crank the music, lower the lights, and have a good time.

Well this is a problem I face where I live. We don't have community rooms anymore to rent around here. So it makes it so much more harder to find a place. It would've been so good if community rooms still existed here. Those parties are a lot of fun.

i had a "quince" which is the same thing as a sweet 16 b-day party. my advice... the money that u will spend on organizing the party, might as well save it and take a cruise or a trip.. or better yet get her a car. parties like that cause alot of headache and tension between families. and if its anything like my 15's party.. yeah it was nice... and everyone had fun... but alot of people talk sh*t after everything was done and over with. if u still want to do it... be my guest. pero te perparas pa el dolor de cabeza. im giving u both the positive and negative of preparing this event.

I appreciate your honesty. And I could just imagine the bochinche after the party. Not that I care but yeah, you spend a lot of money so everyone can have fun and then it's like a boot up the a$$ after.

people talk regardless of how you do something..it's their nature...
But find out if you want to do something formal or not..find out what your daughter likes...if she's just into having fun or she wants to be princess for a day...select a theme...since her birthday is in April it could be all about spring..or whatever has some sort of symbolism to her... Catering halls are expensive and sometimes the food isn't so great...but it depends... You can always order various kinds of food something for everyone...happy stomach makes happy people which makes good party LOL Make a list of who you're inviting and count how many people it's going to be....so that way you'll know how big of a space you'll need. Heck if you know someone with a big backyard that's even better...but April is usually cool, rainy or damp but who knows ..so you might want to consider that if you plan on something outdoors... sweet sixteens only come once..so make it memorable and FUN!!! for everyone. Because your daughter will not only remember where the party was kept but mostly who was there and how much fun she had... =)

you live in nyc right? well there are places that you really have to look for...but it depends if you want something close to home or at a reasonable distance...you just got to get creative!

Thanks for the advice. I want it to be creative, fun and memorable for her. And I probably will have those family members too that love to talk crap but they know the type of person that I am. (As long as I don't hear it!)
