who cares, let elissa cover any track she wants as long as that means 103 plays less of those no-talents like britney. did you guys hear the ad on 88.5 that goes, 'you won't hear britney on this show'? hehe they must be reading this board.
 
I wasn't implying that it's wrong to remake a song or anything... it's just that we're so used to having elissa come up with her own stuff. I just wish she came out with more Back To Me caliber songs 🙁

And about 88.5, seriously... everytime I listen to that station, it's like the PERFECT 103.5! lol. Only if the reception was better, I'd take the 103.5 preset off my radio 😀

Why should an artist work hard on a track writing, producing it, etc just to have an artist come in and do a cover of it, most of the covers are usually horrible too I must add. I especially disagree with stations like Z103.5 playing cheap canadian covers of songs just to fulfill Cancom obligations (the CRTC contract that states all stations must play 30% canadian music). Theres enough GOOD canadian dance/freestyle music to do this with not artists that do cheesy canadian covers of good american songs i.e. Drive me crazy - Expresso, redone by Elucid or Without you & Bailando,etc redone by Elissa.

Imagine this. Your a hard working artist whos put years of effort into gettin yourself known, you've written numerous songs which have done well but then finally you write that one amazing piece of music which in your mind is perfection because you've written it & done it all yourself. After a few weeks it charges up the charts and is doing amazing, finally making you a household name. Then you find out a canadian artist has redone your one amazing song and totally raped it just to make an easy dollar, just to add more songs to his/her musicial resume.
How would you feel?

I totally disagree with the notion of doing covers of tracks, the only redo of a song i'd accept would be one that the original artist themselves have done
 
FF, I totally agree with you, but sometimes covering a song is a away for an artist to show their respect for the artist or writer of that song. For example, Michael Jackson's cover of "Come Together" by John Lennon (not to mention a few others that have covered this particular song). He wasn't trying to rip the song off, or add to his discography, but it was a way for him to tribute someone he really admired through their work. And like you said, other times, it's a way for an artist to add to their list of songs.
 
hmm don't you realize the original artist owns the royalties to the tune? the covering artist first needs to get permission in order to release it. so, whoever wrote La playa del sol gave their permission and is getting royalties from Summer of love. Like I said before, I'd rather listen to elissa or tamara or joee filling up canadian content than b4-4 or ricky gay (the worst music i've ever heard).

Would you guys like me to list all the original songs that I have written and produced in the past 6 years... all artists cover records.. lets see, show me how you love me, back to me, tamara's never let you go and when ever you're alone, freda's dreaming of tonight, the new little suzy which will be out very shortly.. my whole album (too long to mention) except for the bailando/mamboleo/when i'm gone which were projects and both the bailando and mamboleo had ORIGINAL english verses which were not in the translation of spanish to english..they were written by me, not available anywhere in the world..
The summer of love, also has that in the chorus... and prechorus..originally written by me.. La Playa Del Sol.. means the beach of the sun...or sunny beach..which ever way you would like to put that in english terms.

oh, and I must say while I'm here... Estrella..the girl who sang La Playa Del Sol... didn't sing the original either.. it was a group called Sundae (I believe) ...so who's going to complain about her originality..... at least I was able to re-write and put a little bit of "p-diddy" to the song... some of it does belong to me..in all the remakes i've done.. a piece was always originally put there by me.

Aside from that, it was released to get me through the summer so I can make money and live off of my music, which is very hard to do since my Canadian public always has something to complain about...and i've read on other boards that no one wants to see local Canadian acts perform... Sorry, I don't want to work at McDonalds aside from that my next track called " The Light" was written and co-produced by ME ...and will be released world wide sept/oct this year with my remix by BECCA ...so say what you need to say... I know where my talent lies and whether or not I fully write a song.. I know that I can write a hit record...Thank you EESH for your back up... "Back To ME" will always be my favorite too...🙂

Oh , and I forgot to add, that I'm the only Canadian "FEMALE" dance artist who has been able to work in the Dance Industry, producing for herself and other artists, performing, licensing music to Record Companies from all around the world, I opened up my own school, I've helped at least 4 unknown artists make a name for themselves asking for nothing in return. It's been 7 years and i'm not about to stop now...so say what you want to say...oh, by the way... the new Tamara record isn't original either.. yet it's charting ....
If it wasn't for some of our Canadian artists covering european songs.. the majority of you would never hear them..because due to the lack of Canadian content in them.. they would never be played here in Toronto.

**Personal opinion here** Most people don't really go by who had the original song on hand first, they go by the beat, if it moves their @$$ or just is a good song to listen to whatever you're mood is.
Elissa, you're songs are good (it moves my @$$ whenever I hear them!) 😛
Of course it's nice to hear some old songs re-written and re-recorded again with a better beat because I have to admit, some songs never die! Well, that was my 2 cents (Hope it didn't cause a commotion to your message board EESH!)
 
Elissa, ignore what others are b|tch|ng about, just know that I still love ya. 😉 I don't care what's original from ya or not, the remakes are still damn good to me and better than the originals IMHO. I will say one thing, your original songs, to me have been better than the remakes. IE: Back to Me, I love that track, still do and always will. You're one of my fave artists and always will be! 😛

Wait till you here my new song.. wow, it's a bit different..but I never thought I'd have a wicked remix.. Becca did an amazing job!

You're seriously my fave artist. 😀 I know eveything out there is a business, that's what makes the world suck sometimes, everything revolves about money, but what can ya do? As long as you're doing what you love and living off it you should be happy. I look forward to seeing ya @ the rush this year, already have my ticket. When's your new track coming out, cause if Becca did a remix, I'm sure I'll love it, I love Becca's You Make Me Feel (I take it it's the same person?).

Yes, Eluder.. it's the same song but it will be released as the "remix" being the radio/club single...it's just sooo good..
I'm really proud of this one, it has a wicked feel to it and you can tell that it was produced in europe. The words are sweet too..well you've heard the other mix.. They just did an amazing job.. it ranks up there with back to me..It was a really important project for me..that's why it means so much 😛

I can give you the original mix but the Becca version is all under wraps until we are aloud to release it..sorry..
I will be performing a piece of it at the summer rush...you will probably hear it there first if you are going...
