I just found out that one of New York's independent dance lables, Strictly Rhythm, has recently gone out of business. They served up dance music for the past 12 years.
Although Strictly was never a big supporter of the freestyle genre, they did have Sam Savon signed to their label last year under the name "New Vision". They also had house diva Reina on their roster. Reina was once signed to Cutting Records as Lori Gold. And finally, Strictly gave us India's tribal anthem "Love and Happiness".
The label was forced to shut down due to dance music's overall suffering from internet mp3 downloading. Factor that in with the fact that major labels are getting their "pop" artists remixed by Hex Hector, Thunderpuss etc. and it makes it impossible for any independent dance label to keep afloat.
It's not just freestyle that's suffering.....it's dance music in general.
