well i am watchign bush here giving the state of the union

i just thought i would say a few things on the state of "our" union...freestyle!!!!

i dont know 2002 is not getting to a good start...it starts with ktu cutting freestyle!!!!! not only do they cut the hour off the show, but now there are no more freesytle mixes during the day...they are house mixes...but do people get upset, no!!!!

next we see the retiring of willie v...a very important part of freestyle...the last freestyle artist who was doing it on his own for our music

then we get 11 tracks from freestyles future, the up and coming!!! i already got my soundcard on sunday when the songs were put up, however i just cant install it right...whats everyone elses excuse??? oh well!!!

you would think the freestyle fans would be up in arms...but i dont see to much of a ruckus...is it that we are all too spread out now, or is it that we dont care???

i dont know u tell me...
but i am sorry the state of our union has looked better!!!!

hear hear I agree whats going on????

Toni,
I agree, although I did see some response from people who were upset. I think it's the younger ones that are the loudest about things. When I worked at our radio station and it was about to shut down I got calls from all kinds of little raver kids REALLY complaining and calling. Yet the crowd that liked music such as freestyle (both old and new school), old school, etc, didn't call as much. Same goes for requests. Too many requests for the for the harder music, house, trance, progressive, even though most of our listeners loved freestyle (on a big survey we did, freestyle ranked at the top along with trance and latin house/house). I think the younger crowd just makes more noise, and the freestyle loving crowd (generally older) doesn't take the time or doesn't have the time (due to work, babysitting, cooking, or whatever) to call in, email, make noise. No that doesn't explain everything, but people, make some noise!!!

young one

im gonna have to agree...the younger kids do not appreciate freestyle music...i am one of the few out there totally supportng the music..and although i am quite a lad...i love freestyle and the positive effect it has had in my life....the reason i think that the younger kids do not tend to support freestyle is because of what ktu has done....they cut down the airplay so people dont get to hear it...i think it is a shame and an outrage...and the lesat they could do is give back the hour the stole....they can play all the other music the rest of the week....lets stand up and fight people!!!😎

sad state of affairs, 🙁

welli can only check once a week...so i only checked last wenes...hopefully i will have more good news tomarrow

Freestyle does need some sort of new change ... something different, something never heard before .... I understand what the younger generation is feeling with their trance/house/etc ... But i also understand where all the freestylers are coming from tooo ... My theory is to just never give up and come up with something creative that fits all listening ears ... It COULD happen .. and ill do my best to try to make it happen .. The bottom line is freestyle needs one solid song ... if someone can come through and set that trend .. the skys the limit ... 🙂 randy

randy not only does it need a change it needs support from our fans its sad to see people out in the east coast not buying a compilation just cause its progressive yesterday is over lets move on and when something new comes out tell everyone about it if we dont know whats out there how can we buy it

Well here is an important thing that was brought up before...regional differences. Many of the songs that are brought up in this forum (which consists mainly of New Yorkers) would never fly in a place like Sacramento. The big ones from the past like Connie, Debbie Deb, Stevie B, Collage, Trinere, Lisa Lisa, are still huge out here, but most of the other songs brought up in here would have people flipping the station instantly if they heard it. It is much different in New York than here or parts of the Bay Area or Texas or Florida for example. A new song with an old school flavor would not fly here where I live. There are always exceptions though.
Randy said..."My theory is to just never give up and come up with something

I think there was one song we played at Power 105.5 that you guys in New York would like or have liked ("No One Knows" by Susan Santiago) (let me know if I'm wrong on that one). It was an old school sound, but people in Sacramento were calling about it like mad (for a couple of weeks it had more requests than Gigi D'Agostino or Darude), asking when the song was coming out, even though it was several years old. So what Randy said can happen.
I also think that people gave up to soon on the West Coast sound though (i.e. Angelina, Jossette, Jocelyn Enriquez), or that it's just been too quiet lately. Check out Rosalinda's "Goodbye" (the remix with the AOL sample in it. One of the few DOPE west coast songs out right now along with Kenny Freestyle has some great stuff out, but no one is giving freestyle airplay right now. I'm curious to hear the new Angelina, Sharyn Maceren, Galaxy Freestyle 3. Hey one of our hip hop/r&b stations KSFM 102.5 in Sacramento just started playing "Release Me" by Angelina, "A Little Bit of Ecstasy" by Jocelyn Enriquez for the first time in years. I'm hoping some radio stations are receptive to the new freestyle that comes out soon. It needs exposure. Again, when we did a survey on favorite music at our station, freestyle ranked right there at the top. Exposure is the key, that's why house and trance are getting airplay. Both on radio and in clubs. I'm confident new freestyle can be right up there, it just needs that exposure.
And "Young one" (FreestyleChulo), I have supported it too since I can remember, and we did have some young people call for freestyle (I remember a young girl calling for "Dreamboy/Dreamgirl"), no doubt, I was also trying to say that people who liked freestyle, at least where I worked, were less vocal about it than than the crowd that liked the harder hitting trance and house, giving a false impression that this was much hotter than freestyle. But ratings and surveys showed otherwise.

i am kewl with freestyle staying underground. after all thats how it started right? freestyle had its time to shine but that time is over now. all good things have to come to an end at some point. the bottom line is it all comes down to MONEY!!! and there is not enough to make freestyle as popular as it was back in the day. but one thing freestyle does have is a strong fanbase with undying love for the music. i mean most of us have been pumpin the same same tracks from late 80's and early 90's and are still lovin them! u gotta remember that back then, there were so many hot artists with talent and good production. there was just no way to ignore it back then. can u say the same thing today? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! but as long as that fan support stays, i think freestyle will always be around. certain forms of music just cant have that pop exposure but it doesnt mean its not hot. u dont see trance videos on tv or burning up the airwaves during normal radioplay hours, but the people go wild for it in the clubs!

with artists like Safire & TKA still promoting what they have out now, and returns from Cynthia, Lisette, Coro, Corina, Johnny O. & G.L., i think 2002 should be a productive year for freestyle with a lotta hot hits comin at us (hopefully)!!!

Very well put brian ... VERY VERY well put ..

All we can do is keep trying right ??? I can tell you one thing, galaxy 3 should be alot different then 1 & 3 🙂 .. The good thing with whats going on in my career right now, is that im workin a lil closer with major labels , such as Epic on the new Miami Sound Machine project .. which can open new sounds with housy/freestyle elements .. Its VERY possible, and i will never give up on this sound , because i strongly believe there is a HUGE market for it .. as long as the song is a HIT !

Ive done it once .. and i know anythings possible .. stay tuned , and thanks for so much support everyone !!

well the state of freestyle has been in CRAZY....i guess 2002 is basically a year where it's the "survival of the fitest" (however that staement goes) considering all that's happened since Sept. it's all ben crazy. Yet now everyone wants to make CHANGE. in a sense everything is changing, and yet it's another testamony for Freestyle. it's basically goingto have to go thru a major change, something totally away from the 80's. but can dareto say these may be the LAST days of freestyle in the commerical world! itmay soon be completely UNDERGROUND now? but who knows.....anyways i'm just excitied about one record this year and that's MASTER & SERVANT by CORINA!

yo, i definately cant wait to hear Corina's new stuff!!! the title is str8 sick!!! off the hook:blah
