HI AND THANK YOU FOR READING THIS LETTER
they say that latinos don`t stick together ,that we jump on
any bandwagon just to be cool and look good.
they say that we are untrustworthy
that we will backstab each other in a heartbeat .
in movies they represent us as the bottom of society and at
times we think that this is good cause we look cool in the
eyes of the other ethnic communities .
we have been made to hatE each other , puerto rican to
dominican, colombian to equadorian etc etc .divide and conquer
is the tactic ,you see the powers that be understand that
there is strength in numbers so they divde us into classes, not
just by race but by music the salsa pureist must dislike the
hip hop pureist ,the pop lovers must hate rock lovers .never
has this been more evident in the latin community than by the
music we call freestyle .in the late 80`s early 90`s its what
it meant to be latino across this country .we were proud to
listen to the bands of the time ,before we had jlo we had
lissette melendez ,cynthia ,.while ricky martin was learning
to shake shaking his bom bom we had noel, trilogy ,.
marc anthony was a background singer for this type of music
.it has given us some of our major latin stars to date but we
treat it as a bastard child .playing it on a low when our
friends ain`t in the car or on that faded mixtape that is
.about to pop in your walkman
it seems we are not proud of who we were .it seems its better
to let people tell us whats cool other than be cool on our
own.what happen to you my latino brotheres and sisters is it
ok for you to be tossed aside like nothing .we get a month out
of the year to celebrate our heritage but a few years ago
there was a latino on your radio waves and on your video
channels very 5 minutes ....they called it a latin explosion
when ricky marc and jenny did it .but it was called freestyle
when the cover girls sweet sensation judy torres did it and
you know what that was a bigger explosion than now .support
your latino brothers and sisters ....no better yet support
yourselves.they were who you looked up to when you had nothing
to represent you .
when you wanted it louder than love there was tka
when you needed to know how it felt without you there was
george lamond
when you needed to come there was k7
latino's stand up represent
believe in your self again
