Dear Stan,
How do I begin to tell you that our relationship has grown very unhealthy. You complain about what I’m doing more than some of my ex-girlfriends and especially more than Tony and Angel.
Stan I know you like freestyle music to the extent that you would cut your wrist hoping to see if the planet rock beat oozes out but Stan lets be real, its just music.
Stan do you remember how back in the day we did that silly rock me Amadeus dance at the devils nest and how for a while every body rocked those crazy Queen Latifah hats? Do you remember how all those guys in the clubs used to think they were members of Duran Duran and spandau ballet? Stan I’m at fault for some of these stupid looks too. It was me that made Tony, Angel, Aby and Spider wear turtle necks and blazers. I didn’t think it would catch on. Yes Stan, I’m responsible for the dreaded Miami vice craze in Spanish Harlem. It was Spider and I that started gelling our flat tops and emulating Hector Camacho’s curl so that we would look like some very well tanned, Spanish Harlem’s version of wham. It was me Stan that convinced Fareed to tell Lisa Velez about the fact that Full Force was looking for a female singer. It was I who told Joey Gardner to come to St. Francis to see TKA perform. It was I who wrote Scars of Love in elementary school. I’m responsible for letting Joey Gardner convince us not to put Marc Anthony in the group as oppose to Angel. Stan, believe me when I say that I still wonder what could have been. I was even there when Marc Anthony and I cut out of school and he wrote "Boy I've Been Told" on the FDR drive.
The whole India thing still freaks me out…her rolling on the stage floor at Roselands still makes me laugh but at least I don’t have to smell the cigar smoke. Stan I don’t know why I didn’t do the Bell Biv Devoe version of freestyle with George Lamond and Joey Kidd. I think it had to do with Joey sleeping with my girlfriend at the time.
Stan you’ve hated on me so much dude…your point is valid but these nasty posts do nothing for us Stan. Lets part ways in a good way…you take freestyle like it was and I take TKA with me to the next level. Stan you’ve already scared Betty from Sweet Sensation so bad that she won’t come back to the music scene and we know that she had more talent than all those others. Stan I know what I’m doing dude…remember that out of all the freestyle singers of my era I was the only one to go gold period…my single and album...and Stan I had two freestyle songs on there too.
I know you want me and the boys the way we used to be Stan but I can’t do that. I refuse to get a flat top or have the curl come back.
Stan I don’t want to bicker about what our sound is or your choice of producer. But just to explain to you, here goes:
1. Uncle Tony Moran is too busy doing Gloria Estefan and George Michael’s album to ever want to come back plus it pays the bills way more than freestyle.
2. Carlos Berrios is too much of a friend to bring him into this thing. ‘Cause TKA will drive people to the brink of insanity. Just ask Ty Bless and Peachy, they’ll tell you. Ask yourself why Joey Gardner isn't here.
3 & 4. Arty the Santana twins I can’t comment on because I don’t know their work.
5. Willie Valentine, well that would be crazy ‘cause he seems to talk too much about how he dislikes us to all our friends…so that’s out of the question.
Regarding “Forever” Stan…What can I do? That’s who we are now and I can’t be what you want me to be Stan. If you really don’t like it, take it back. I won’t be mad neither will the guys. You see Stan, Joey Gardner beat into my head a long time ago that I can’t be all things to all people and that for as much as I try I can’t resurrect the past. Stan the truth is I don’t want to go back. Look at the cover art for Crash, look at the Tears May Fall cover or, even worst, the Come Get my Love cover…maybe then you’ll understand.
Stan I know you got those retro cavaricci’bell bottoms with your mock neck all ready to go but Stan I’m not coming with you. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll always love who I was and I’ll look back fondly but let me be. If you don’t want to be friends it would be heartbreaking since it was for you that I accepted Angel’s millionth offer to reunite. To tell you the truth, your attitude makes me wish I would have stayed out of it. I could have said no again but it was you Stan that changed my mind. With TKA its always been a thing of the three of us not getting along but through it all Stan you were the reason we didn’t give each other the finger. Well buddy, I don’t know what I’ll do without you (as the song says) but I hope that some where down the road our paths cross once more. You were there when my kids were born you were there when I found the swing kids. You were there when Joey G left the first and second time. You were there all over the world with me through good times and bad but like I say “what is, is” meaning that you can’t control life…its just life…just like its just music...I hope you find what your looking for Stan. Oh and by the way, there is a guy called Eminem who wrote a song about you. You should try to go get some royalties!
