Its a station what was bought back from the dead. it was popular in the early 80's with is disco. it was bought out by K-ROCK (HOWARD STERN'S station). it went back on the air in 1995 when there was a strong demand for dance music. ironically, it took over the country music spot (103.5) which back in the late 80's, was HOT 103.

make a long story short. In the late 70's WKTU(then Disco92) was a popular station for Disco. In the early 80's it had to play more Top40 because Disco was played out, and later was bought out by a company to make it K-Rock in order to compete with another Album Rock station WNEW(which is now talk). The only good stations betwen 1981-86 were WPLJ, WRKS(a new station in 1981), WBLS and Z100(new in 1983). In 1986 WQHT(Hot103/Hot97) came in as the station to hear upbeat pop, freestyle/dance. Then around the same time Z100 and 98.7Kiss fm was adding freestyle to their rotation. In the early 90's Gen X came about. More of them(I'm a Gen Xer!) wanted to hear more serious music like Alternative and Gangsta rap. So two of NYC's hottest stations had to move in those directions Hot97 became hiphop, Z100 started playing more Alternative. In addition, most dance/Freestyle dissapeared from the radio. But in 1995 KTU returned to the air at 103.5 bringing back dance/freestyle. Then Z100 went back to playing Top40.

Kenny, I didn't take offense....I knew they were spread all over, I should had of made it clear when I first posted....I was just picking on Ant that's all. Maybe that's why KTU's so screwed up....LOL...they need to just be in one loc damn it...LOL

OK now 2 clarify everything cuz there were some errors:
KTU signed on february 10 1996 12:00 pm...
first song- everybody dance now- c&c music factory
about 15/20 mins later..first freestyle song- change on me- cynthia

KTU's corporate offices are NOT in longisland..they're licensed to LAKE SUCCESS NY...that's why you hear that in their ID..that's their "servicing city"..which is why at 5am sundays you hear that longisland show. KTU is owned by Clear channel..i think their offices are in the midwest?? i'm not sure.
