Performing / Recording Artist
1. Don’t think you’re better than anybody cause nobody is better than you.
2. Don’t try to be better than anybody especially if they have years in the business, have a name in the business and they have made a mark.
3. ALWAYS be humble to the fans and fellow artists (NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE) I’ve seen artists be nice to me in clubs and events where the eyes are on them but if you bumped to them in the street they see you and act like they didn’t.
4. Show your respect to the crowd by never giving them your back and looking your best, ALWAYS
5. When you start a show make sure you open with a hot track with a banging beat. You have to open and make an impression and make them say wow. If you open up with a hot track that is vocally challenging and perform your ass off, you won’t have to work your ass off for the rest of the show cause the crowd will know that you can hold your own.
6. Do it for you first then for the fans, because if you don’t believe in yourself and aren’t confident they will know and judge you by it.
7. It doesn’t matter if you’re first in a show or last, that crap about saving the best for last is BULL. If you’re first and you put on a hell of a show, the performer after you is gonna have to work harder than you did. I did a show where Geroge Lamond and Angel of the cover girls went before me and I was saying to my self, Oh sh**. I’m in deep Kaka (LOL)
8. Never be intimidated by the act before you (NO MATTER WHAT)
9. Whenever you get on stage, don’t expect anything. Crowds can be tough and you could be giving the performance of your life and they could just be there like whatever. Continue your show and don’t let the crowd distract you.
10. If you arrive at a show and there are a few people rather than a big crowd, the show must go on, you will have good days and you will have bad days but performing is performing.
11. Don’t let bad weather stop you from going to a show unless the event organizers or promoters tell you not to go or that it was cancelled. I’ve gone to shows where it has been pouring and the crowd was a large crowd and stayed out in the rain to see the show.
12. Never give up. If you are singing to make it big, this business can be corrupt and there are many scam artists out there. Never give up.
13. If you are an artist never make promises you can’t keep. I have had many artists tell us, Hey we want to work with you or I want to do a duet with your artist or I want to produce you and HELLOOOOOO, I’m still waiting for the phone to ring.
14. NEVER STEP ON ANYBODY TO GET WHERE YOU WANT. REMEMBER EVERYTHING THAT GOES UP, MUST COME DOWN.
15. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY AND BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DO, CAUSE IN THE END IT WILL COMEBACK TO YOU.
16. Learn how to take criticism. Don't get upset what anyone may say about you or your performance. You will get good and bad reviews and comments. Learn how to take the good and the bad even while your up on stage.
17. If you want a private life or you don't want to be bothered by fans then singing is not for you. People will always want to come up to you and meet you or ask you for an autograph and you always have to be willing to please them. Remember the fans make you and the fans break you.
I have been in this business for years and know many well known performers so I know what the hell I'm talking about...
