Please don’t be so technical about this. This is not about pointing fingers or placing blame its about helping this movement. Please set aside your personal beliefs.
I don't know if you were referring to me K7 but believe me what I've been doing, for the past 15 years or so, is about helping the movement, which is dance music as a whole and that DOES include freestyle.
Yet, of course with anger, one can't help figuring why a decision came about. And that's what I'm speculating in the back of my mind as I am sure others are. 'KTU had this show for 12 years and now, "poof"...gone. Most people are upset with "KTU Sucks", "freakin 'KTU, I never listened", etc. and that's fine with the anger emotions coming out. But there had to be a financial reason and that's what I'm trying to figure out, outside of that initial anger.
You had a "core" audience tuning in and that's what helped maintain that show for all these years. The show was "family" for that core. So, why now? And what's coming down the road? These are questions that need to be asked while the e-mails and snail mails get sent out.
Regarding 'KTU's relevancy, they "left" as a dance station on September 9, 2006 with their current format known as "rhythmic A/C". In most cities the format is known as "Movin". 'KTU still plays freestyle because it covers that target audience (the 25-54 women) and to that, I can NEVER see 'KTU drop that genre of music totally because of those demographics. So in that sense, you and other freestyle artists aren't totally out of the picture.
I've posted about the show disappearing on the coalition blog and the feedback has been very good regarding Judy. Judy is a wonderful person. While what happened stinks, at least she's still on the station, especially given the fact that with the bad economy, radio has been on a tear laying off people.
With all due respect, if the movement (and this is my own opinion here and believe me it is to help and not hurt) is going to progress then it's time to bring about some new material to the table. Introduce it at Beatstock if you can. A movement can't sustain if a generation is kept stuck on the old. It won't allow a new generation to "breathe" in those sounds.
I AM being supportive here, believe it or not. You're on the "front line" as an artist to this music, so there are things that you can bring to this table and if it's going to help I want to hear it!
🙂 Doors are never shut with me.
To that, I hope the e-mails and snail mails can make a difference!
