Who's flying down? Most of the Miami acts will be there, plus it's a good cause.

Sandee deserves at least this--- a lot of artists that were asked I heard said no.
It will be a great show though-- the lineup is A+ already.

Bought my tickets for the show. Anyone going to the concert? I am excited by the lineup and it's a really good cause.

Sandra Harvey "Sandeé"
Born Sandra Mercedes Zeno on the lower east side of Manhattan, Sandra left New York at the age of 9 when her family moved to Florida where she later attended McArthur High School. Determined to make it on her own, she left home, got married, and had a son by the age of 17. Now known as Sandra Tola, she worked as a clerical assistant at a pediatricians office, which gave her "good medical care" for her son, she laughs.

"Exposé"

"I hadn't been thinking about the music business at all, you know?" said Sandra. "Then one night I was hanging out with some friends at a club called ‘Limelight’ in Hollywood, Florida, and we were playing Truth or Dare, so of course me, I choose the dare! My friends dared me to go up and sing with the house band, so I decided to take them up on it and asked the Band if they knew ‘Last Dance’ by Donna Summer. They said yes, I got up on stage and the crowd went wild. I ended up singing all night long.”It must have been a part of God's plan, because a friend of producer, Lewis Martineé was in the audience. He approached Sandra about a girl group that they were putting together and he wanted her to audition. Sandra decided to give it a shot and was chosen to be one of three girls that formed the group "X-posed". The name was later changed to "Exposé" by Arista Records when they were signed. "It was less risqué, and they felt it was too provocative; if we added the accent mark it somehow became more Classy”."We did promotional tours in the U.S as well as in other Countries. Exposé opened up for Miami Sound Machine on their 1984-85 ‘Primitive Love Tour’. I remember doing this gig in Venezuela, we were on the side of this cliff and the Oceanic view was our backdrop, it was amazing. We also performed "Conga" with them. This was something I'll never forget! In fact there is footage of us doing that show”, says Tola. Sandra sang on Exposé's first two hit singles Point of No Return (which reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Dance Chart in 1985 and was later named ‘Dance Record of the Year’) and also Exposed to Love (which also charted high). The group went into the Studio to record their first album, but before the release of the ‘Exposure’ LP, Sandra had a change of heart and decided to pursue a solo career due to some turmoil developing within Management and the girl's.“Exposé was fun while it lasted, but only to an extent. Everything was so controlled… makeup, costumes. It was more like Military School” said Tola. “It’s different if you own your own name”. Which is what Sandra went on to do, now changing her professional name to Sandeé. "Sandeé"In 1988 – 1989, Sandeé went on tour with Menudo, Sweet Sensation, The Cover Girls, Stevie B and Pajama Party. Her songs ‘You're The One’' and shortly after that, the release of ‘Notice Me’ got Sandeé signed to Columbia Records sending her off to New York to record her debut Album.
With recording complete, the Debut single from her ‘Only Time Will Tell’ Album titled ‘Love Desire’ went to the top of the Dance and R&B charts. This then led to a national tour where Sandeé was opening for Jeffery Osbourne, Surface and later for Tony, Toni, Tone!

Unlike many artists' with dance hits, Sandeé used a live band and refused to lip-sync when in concert. She also sang Spanish tunes, one being ‘Si Queires En Mi Amour’ which she recorded with Stevie B. After much touring and a hectic lifestyle, Sandeé decided to take some time off to reflect on life and focus on what was most important, her family.

After several years, Sandeé was now ready to come back to the spot light, stronger than ever and with a story to tell. "You never know what obstacles you may have to face in life. As long as you can overcome them and learn from the experience, they are well worth it," she said. * Affirmation: Tough times never last, tough people do. During her hiatus, Sandeé had written several songs which she planned to record and release in the near future…

Unfortunately, on Monday December 15, 2008, it was discovered that our beloved Sister and Friend, Sandeé, aka ‘Freestyle Diva’ had passed away from natural causes. Sandra had been ill with Bronchitis when she came down with Laryngitis. During her recovery time she somehow got food poisoning causing an adverse reaction to her health. She ended up with walking pneumonia, and had lost an extreme amount of weight. Her immune system suffered from this attack, she had a seizure which resulted in a fatal heart attack. She was found by a family Friend when Sandra was unreachable.

The light of her life was her grand-daughter, Genesis! Because of Sandeés untimely death, she was unable to continue to be a part of her life, and being the grand-ma she so loved to be. Those close to Sandeé knew that her coming back into the spotlight was not only for herself but to be able to contribute to her grand-daughters future education… "Come Celebrate… Life, Memories and Music”, Sunday, April 5th, a Memorial Benefit Concert at Super Wheels Skating Center located at 12265 SW 112th Street in West Kendall, Miami. 100% of profit will go directly into a trust fund for Genesis’ College Education. The concert was a lot of fun. Tito Puente Jr. was an amazing host. There were some very touching performances and tributes to Sandee. It was great seeing some of the Miami acts for the first time. Erotic Exotic and Company B were real highlights. Nyasia is always great. Voice in Fashion and Paris By Air were really good too. Olga and Hilda Marie (Teaz II Pleaz) worked the stage too. Jayquan from the Nas-T Boyz came out solo and introduced a new artist - Diddle D who sang together some TKA and Coro hits. Old and new Expose were represented by Laurie Miller and Gioia Bruno and they really sang their hearts out. All in all it was a great tribute and Scot Haslett put together a great show. The most touching moment was seeing Sandee's granddaughther get on stage and show as much character and personality as her grandmother may she rest in peace. Sorry I have no pictures but this New Yorker was glad he attended.
