this question again?!?! 😉

well - i prefer rockell's 'funky mix' cuz it doesn't sound as generic as the one on jossette's single - but i do love the version on galaxy freestyle vol 1 (jossette)

Ok my opinion is with Jossette. I love the Jossette version for the fact that it was FIRST. ha ha

No seriously, i like the Jossette version better. The vocals are stronger, the beats hit harder and the Romantic Remix is the S**T!!! Rockell's voice doesn't do it for me like Jossette. True sometimes Jossete does sound whiny but it's clearly a better version to me. Rockell's whole first album is full of remakes and I say if it ain't broke then don't try to fix it.

Oh

The best version has to go to Josette's, one because she looks fine and her vocals are a lot better then Rockell's... Also, I hate singers that steal other singers songs...

=)

Cuervo Brother,

I hate to burst your bubble... but if you hate singers that "steal" other singer's songs: then you're gonna have to hate Josette, too.

If you know the history of "In A Dream", then you'd know that Emotion In Motion [another Galaxy artist (group)] were the original singers of the song.

yea but jossette did not steal the song.....randy galaxy produced both of the songs and he did write it.....

law2k1,

If you would have looked at the credits for Rockell's album, you would see that the PUBLISHING company that now owns the song "In A Dream" is no longer Randy's PUBLISHING company (Galanthony Music LLC, BMI) ---

which means that:

Randy SOLD his publishing RIGHTS
to another publishing company
which appears to be affiliated with Rockell's label.

which THEN means that

Rockell didn't "steal" "In A Dream" when the TRUTH is that
Randy had "SOLD" his publishing rights of the song away.

In essence,
You can't steal something that you (or your label) has bought.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, many people aren't educated about the business of music so they end up making statements about issues they don't really know about. Being a songwriter myself, I can see how people get confused about these type of situations

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I were you all, I would ask Randy myself if that song was "stolen"

because * if Rockell had "stolen" that song from Josette... then she had to have "stolen" it from the songwriter Randy Taylor-Webber, as well.

So, Randy, if you could do us all a favor and let them know the deal, we'd appreciate it!

later,
angel lynn

why didn't you use a survey?

Why didn't this thread start with a survey?

PMX

Randy,

Can you please set the record straight? For people to accuse Rockell of "stealing" your song--- it would be nice of you to let the truth be known.

Thanks in advanced,
angel lynn

P.S. I personally liked Josette's version of "In A Dream" ,
in part (because for some reason)... I liked her vocals for the song... but mostly... because I loved your production on that track.

OMG, this story is gonna live til im 120 years old .. hehe .. okay everyone once again for the 500 millionth quadriple trillionth time .. heres the story ... hehe

The song "in a dream" was created in 1988/1989 in my lil wrinky dink home studio with a 3 girl trio, originally named "First Kiss"

This 3 girl trio "first kiss" did shows in 1989 and 1990/Northern California with artists like Corina, Chrissy Ieece, Donna Williams, Mark A, Marybel, and more .. There was still no record or cassette release made, just some home made tapes ...

1990 the group broke up ...

1994 I recorded the song in a real professional studio in San Jose, California and renamed the group "Emotion in Motion", let me say that this is not the same "emotion in motion" which came out in 1997 ... Well this studio version had only 200 copies on cassette made and was passed around everywhere, copies were being made and theyre was a little vibe ... But the group had problems like pregnancies, boyfriends, etc, and departed ... At one point Classified artists "Bernadette" and future artist "Carolina"" was a part of Emotion in Motion

1996 ... By popular demand, people were pushing me to release "in a dream" on vinyl ... So my friend met Jossette through a friend at Sears in the Mall ... She then came to my studio with her mom, it sounded cool , so we released it on record .. The Record blew up more than i can ever imagine ...

1997 Robbins Entertainment wanted to pick up Jossette, but her parents and her didnt agree to terms with Robbins .. Which led Robbins to put out Rockells version without written consent at the time, (which where an artist can take any song as long as they play the minimum stature per copies made) ... But eventually Robbins did buy out the publishing after Jossette had departed from Galaxy ..

1998 Robbins Rockell version hits all over the east coast and does a great job at publicizing the song to an even higher stature ... It was on shows like All My Children and was even # 1 in so many other markets ...

2001 ... A lawsuit is now pending with Famous Artists Music saying that "in a dream" is a melody rip off of a song called "right before my eyes" by Patti Day ... I honestly say this is just an attempt to cash in on anything they can find .. I never heard of that song in my life til it was presented to me in 2000...

Is that a big enough story for ya ??? thanks so much for everyones interest and I hope you check out my new songs
"SBP" what am i to do ...
and Daiseys upcoming new album ...

Im currently also working on a new song for a young 17 year old female artist from Northern California due out this summer ......

thanks so much for your continued support ..
Randy Taylor-Weber / Galaxy Freestyle Records
