For the rock fans on CF. Why is Rock performing so bad on the charts of the past few years? 1999 was suppose to be the year Rock returned to dominance after the big Grunge Burnout of the mid 90's. The Hip Hop metal style was to make Rock big with the popularity of hip hop and many kids getting tired of bubble gum crap( N'Suck). Kid Rock was to be the true Rock star. But why of late rock has not done well on the charts and Rock stations are perfroming bad in low listenership? Why has surburban kids deserted Rock for hip hop? And how much has Eminem played a part in Hip Hops huge dominance over rock? :band

I was watching a documentary on a music station and what I heard was rock was never really taking off until a few artists surprisingly brought it back up. I believe rock was genre that started out to die pretty soon. btw i dont like rock.

LOL Ant.

It seemed like after grunge, it was really dying. Most of the stuff was starting to sound the same. Then most of the kids started listening to hip hop.

im beginning to like hip hop. Lately there has been some nice tunes by these young artists etc

There are a few. But i'm still and Old School Hip Hop Person. Also, there aren't many superstars now in Rock. Areosmith was a star group in the 1970's that's still going on. U2, Bon Jovi(calm down maci.LOL) are 80's left over groups still going strong. Green Day of the 90's is still selling records. It seems people still sweat those guys in Rock..Even The Rolling Stones who are older than George Washington is still going strong(and Keith Richards still smokes 800 packs a day!!). Seems like there is now Rock act of now people can sweat. At least in Rap there is Slim Shady/Em, 50 Cent, Lil Jon who are big stars now.

I think it has to do alot with it sounding a like.....i used to like rock alot and now i dont listen to much of it. However, theres a group called the Killers which i love...at least its something somewhat different

The Killers are awesome. I love Evanesence. They were the only rock group to have a top 5 album in the past 3 years. Kid Rock and Fred Durst(Limp Bizkit) were suppose to be the true rock superstars. But that has fizzled.

Evanesence had some major success. Matchbox20/Rob Thomas did as well. and don't forget 3 Doors Down, and Maroon 5.

They are good exceptions. Eventhough outside Evanesence, they are more of mainstream Rock. I kind of think the pop punk stuff like Blink 182, Simple Plan is sort of hurting rock a little. Good Charlotte is a great band(local boys). But the pop punk stuff is very dirivertive!

Take This As The Truth From A True Freestyler, and Metal Head/guitar Player, whos Been Around..........rock Didnt Do As Well Because All The Music Sounded The Same.there Are No More Guitar Solos, and All The Bands That Are Signed Are Based On Appearance, not Talent.all The Rock, now,is Repetative Sounding.there Are More Stations Pushing Hip Hop Than Rock, from Commercials To Clothing.and Alot Of Artists Are Sampling With The Younger Generations Favorite Movies, and That Is Catching Attention, and The Girls Are Hotter In The Rap Videos.plus Did You Ever Hear Of Pantera Cologne,or Slayer Perfume????as Far As Eminem Goes, hes The Great White Hope, besides The Beastie Boys....and He Makes It Ok For The White Folk To Wear Fubu, and Sean Paul, Etc......any Other Questions???????hope This Helped..

WOW, that is some great parts to it!!!! More rappers are being promoted than rock singers. The Game, Em, everybody knows. Disturbed, HateBreed..who????? They are great metal bands, but nobody outside the metal circle knows who the hell they are. Yes, the girls in Hip Hop videos are much hotter, that used to be the motto of hair metal bands of the 80's. Motley Crue, you knew there were gonna be hot girls in the videos. Now kids see the hot girls in hip hop videos, and the hot cars.

the only exposure for the hardcore,is on headbangers ball, fuse also has a show, but not everyone gets it.i know though, when i was at 18,19.........i was wasted by the time headbangers ball was on,and not even home.if they put it on during the week,i think there would be a big difference

I think maybe if a lot more rock artists blended hip hop with their music, we would see a major resurgence....Linkin Park is a great example, and the RHCP have been known to do it.

Personally, I don't think today's music can hold a candle to yesterday's since there's so much sampling going on....give me Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Journey, and Aerosmith any day.

During 1999 many thought The Korn and Limp Bizkit stuff(hip hop Metal) was what was gonna save rock. But sadly rock is fizzling again. Lots of artist have moved away from guitars and more into samples and electronic sound(not even dance)

I love Evanescence too! But otherwise for the most part, yep rock sucks!
