What was the first freestyle songs that started all. Please give me the first solo female song freestyle and the first solo male song freestyle that did the explosion.😕
Shannon-Let The Music Play(1983). Not a freestyle song, but it threw out the idea of Freestyle
Nayobe-Please Don't Go(1984)
Jellybean-The mexican(1984)
Debbie Deb-Weekends(1984/85)
Lisa Lisa-Take Me Home(1985). That track was begining to open mainstream doors for freestyle. It was a hit single on the Hot 100 Billboard charts(#30) in 1985
Those were some of the first freestyle songs
1986 was the kind of breakthrough year for freestyle
The Cover Girls, TKA, Expose, Company B were releasing singles that was breaking through the clubs and Radio. Hot103(NYC), Hot 105(Miami), Power 106(LA) were the pioneers of Rhythm Crossover radio. Those stations gave freestyle it's big break, then came it's sucess on Top40 stations like Z100(NYC) Y100(Miami) KIIS(LA). But Miami artist Like Stevie B, Coro, Expose was getting the most airplay. Top40 programmers thought that the Miami artists were more Radio friendly than the NYC freestyle artists. NYC groups like TKA used heavy beats, Miami artists like Expose used more light and fast souding beats.
The first modern Dance music artists and songs were freestyle, hiphop and dance pop.It was the music of around 1984 they included Tony Moran pre Latin Rascals and later as the Latin Rascals,Nayobe,Debbie Deb,Michael Sembello,Sheila E,Irene Cara,New Edition,Los Chicos,Menudo,The Jets,Michael Jackson,Jermaine Jackson,Madonna,Janet Jackson,Shannon,Clear Touch,Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine,LL Cool J,Run DMC,Yazz among others were the first dance music artists post disco era to bring a moddern sound still used today in the music buisness!I would say Tony Moran "We've only just begun",Debbie Deb "When I hear music",New Edition "A little love is all it takes",Shannon "Let the music play",plus alot of rare unknown lost material by Clear Touch early years,Coro rare early years, early years TKA unknown lost material,Debbie Deb,Shannon and Nayobe, maybe other lost or rare material from pop stars New Edition, early old school Tony Moran, early rare old school Stevie B and old school Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine who's hot Latin dance sound gave birth to a new wave of Latino dance music singers later renamed freestyle artists. The Miami Sound Machine sound probably opened doors for alot of what we call freestyle artists and most importantly the Miami freestyle sound was largerly based on a Miami Sound Machine style and got big because of the sucess of Gloria Estefan & MSM's glory days in the early to mid 80's!GOD Bless,Omar 🙂
An New Edition, (may I remind you proyecto) did a freestyle song in their second album in "84" "kinda girls we like" I guess you can also say that this was one of freestyle earliest songs. Shannons "let the music play" is the earliest recorded freestyle song. And Nayobe's "Please Dont Go" is class of "85" while Lisa Lisa/Cult Jam's I wonder If I Take You Home is "84".
That's true! That means Chris Barbosa & Mark Ligette created the the very first Freestyle song or the first song to sound like Freestyle!New Edition were also early old school freestyle/dance pop pioneers that created a dance sound that has been used by music groups for the last 20 years!Good post!Well said.GOD Bless,Omar 🙂
i would have to sat the first songs that made me a freestyle head were.."one way love"..TKA and" scars of love"..and lisa lisa.."can you feel the beat" and "i wonder if i take you home"..but even before that jenny burton.."i remeber what you like" that song is not played anywhere anymore...but it still kicks ass almost twenty years later!!i still listen to that song at least once a day..😀
the freeze released a song called i.o.u....at the time it was not called freestyle...more like beat box...the song was produced by arthur baker and jellybean benitez....john rocca does the vocals...hes british...this song inspired the sound of freestyle....it also uses one of the earliest versions of samplers..(now called staples)...by the way i got this information from the inside cover of the best freestyle album in the universe volume 1...go out and get it....pretty good mixed cd....i got all 3 volumes--and they are real cheap-----like 6 bucks.....and they aint bootlegs!!...i get em at this place called music explosion...they have a few of those stores in manhattan.......enjoy!
Angelbaby, jam on it by newcleus is more like old school hip hop. There are a lot of knowledgeable freestylers in here, lol. Mike4949, what makes you think let the music play by Shannon isn't freestyle?
jam on it by newcleus is more like old school hip hop
and shannon, since when were they not freestyle? I have freestyle mixes with Shannon's songs in them. Plus my Freestyle's Greatest Album vol 1 has Jam On it on it. it sounds like freestyle to me. 😕
