Question About Radio Ratings.....

I was just wondering how(or if) internet figures into ratings for a radio station. For example, on Sunday's when the chat is going on and those of not in the NY/NJ area stream KTU, does that do anything for ratings? Same also when those of us stream in other out-of-state/region stations.

The things I think of at 3 in the morning. :whateva LOL

I'm not so sure. But it would help ratings though to see that there people in Timbuktu that listen to KTU through the internet!

Listening to a radio station web site does not effect it's ratings. There is a seperate ratings system for the internet. Radio ratings are made up by people that are randomly send "Diaries" to fill out. You are supposed to write down the exact times that you are listening to any given station. This is why they aren't really 100% accurate. People have been know to fill them out at the end of the day when they couldn't possibly remember exactly what time they were listening to what station. Or just fill in the name of a station they like for the whole day.

In theory, almost everybody in a town could listen to one station but if the people that fill out the diaries say they never listened to it, the station would not have good ratings. It's all a random mess.

yes jparker is right, i have had one of the arbitron diaries before and it was an interesting experience, you really start to pay attention to when and what you are listening to, but it does have that human error factor and there will always be some bias to people's favorite stations. internet streaming is going to be a more acurate number, i don't know if they can get the location of the person unless that person has to register first, but they can tell how many streams they have going out.

sorry to kind of stray away from your question a little bit, as far as the internet ratings go i don't know how much they count for anything at this time, but i will ask on another forum that has to do with radio and if i find out i will update.
