Today, while I was driving, I was listening to the Q102 Morning Show, and I heard Lil Suzy's "Take Me In Your Arms." Then when it was over, Chio (Q dj) said, "That was the Freestyle Queen, Lil Suzy, with Take Me In Your Arms." I know it's not that big of a deal, but I think it's cool that Chio gave some props to freestyle.

thats about the only time you may hear freestyle on Q i heard dreamboy dreamgirl a few weeks ago on the am show and he said it brings him back to the good old days but you will never hear freestyle on Q at a normal time its always in the am or late night

Wow -- how interesting ... As I said before, I NEVER listen to Q102 anymore -- just tapes/cd's in the car, or 'The Buzz' - in Atlantic City ... but, that was pretty cool if CHIO said that !

Does anyone remember when CHIO used to be on Q (way back when) at nights around 1996 ??? The used to play a DECENT amount of freestyle at that time -- and they even played some NEW school (well, at that time) back then till like 1998 ... I can recall hearing songs like Buffy 'Give Me A Reason', Acid Factor 'Fantasy', MCSC 'Dream Girl' and even the re-release of Sergio's 'In and Out of Love' ... you might even hear some TAZMANIA cuts once and a while !!

Remember when the used to have the old "Q it or Screw It" segment ??? They would actually play lots of NEW SCHOOL freestyle cuts -- of course, this was all during CHIO's show ... They would play lots of Taz/Viper stuff -- I even remember when Olga Rivera (who is from Lancaster, PA) got her song played on the 'Q it or Screw It'. I was in SHOCK -- but she told me how it worked -- they had to PAY Q102 to have it FEATURED on the segment -- how about that ??? I checked my old NEWS page -- and it seems like a lot of this was actually still happening up until around February of 1998 when they truly went Top40/Mainstream!

I've talked to CHIO on a few occasions, and he is DEFINITELY a supporter of freestyle -- but, he works for Q, so basically, he's screwed when it comes to playing it on the radio anymore in TODAY'S times ... oh well ............

Dez, I remember ALL of that. I remember hearing Chio around 95/96 at nights. And Q It Or Screw It was the BEST. They did play a lot of new school freestyle in regular rotation- you forgot Intonation Feat. Joee's "Died In your Arms." They played that song all the time. They played a lot of old school freestyle as well. But it seems like in 97, when they were truly a dance station, being "The Beat of Philly," they dropped a lot of their new school freestyle stuff, but they still played a lot of old school.

Hey Joe, a couple of months ago, I actually heard Dreamboy/Dreamgirl on Q102 at like 6 p.m. It was pretty weird to hear it on that station and at that time, but I'm not complaining. 🙂 Also, I don't know if you guys know this, but Q102 jock Logan's favorite group is TKA. And I know Chio likes freestyle. The Q102 talent wants to bust out some freestyle joints, and it is killing them that they can't LOL. Anyway, keep freestyle alive, and let's hope Philly gets a dance station SOON.

Here's some trivia for you freestyle heads that listen to q102 -- or at least USED to -- back in the day ...

There's something interesting about 'Logan' ... who's on Q102 -- the people who remember Q from 1989 - 91 will know what I am talking about ...

Anyone know who he 'REALLY' is ??? LOL! it's kind of confusing -- unless someone answers, I'll explain later at some point !

Dez, I know a lot about radio, especially Q102, and a lot about freestyle, but I have NO idea what you are talking about. Maybe that's cuz in 89, I was only 5 years old. Lol. Anyway, c mon, tell us.

To Dez and all the other Philly freaks who used to listen to Q, I've got some trivia questions too. They're kinda stupid, but all the other questions I had were too easy.

Okay, back in late 96/early 97, Q102 was going through a transition phase (top 40/rhythmic to top 40/dance). They were experimenting with some slogans during this time. What were some of these slogan? ( I'm not talking about "Today's Best Music" or "The Beat of Philly."

Here's another one: In 95/96/97, when Q102 would play an older song, mostly freestyle, they would play a particular jingle before the song, and they used to call these songs something. What was it?

I think Q102 should definitely play more freestyle! It only plays freestyle once in a while or at 12:00 ( I think noon work out) Well, its better than nothing........

oooh, I know I know !!!

They would play a little liner before the song and i t would go, 'Q102, Deja Vu, Deja Vu' ! lol

I know thatss gotta be it .

Also, it looks like dez got susspended or something sgo I guess he's not gonna tell us but, the connection with logan is, he used to be the ORIGINAL Joe Mama !! I actualy have all the details on that too!

That's cool. I didn't know he was the original Joe Mamma. You're right, it was "deja vu" that they said, but in 97, they changed it to "deja q."

yeah, first they said 'deja vu' .. then they changed it to 'deja q' ...

how bout this -- around that time (96/97), they also brought back something else that they used to do back around when they first signed on (89/90)- does anyone remember what that is ?

something along the 'liner' thing again !

guesses ??

"It's 9 o'clock and you're listening to the hottest radio station on the planet, Q102 The Beat of Philadelphia."

seriously joe?

cuz peoples don't have common sense and the decency to say what they want to say to a degree......

they want to do things and say things that will otherwise get you suspended from school...........
well that's just my opinion
