thanks rookie i did all i can and they say i was rude i heard one freestyle song on the noon workout it was called show me then i called to see if they would play more lol what a joke i bet if they had a top 40 song do a freestyle remix they would play it and the song i asked for she never heard of and they are djs whats going on over there?

they JUST added sandstorm? thats old as hell! why do radio stations always do that? if its new and its hiphop its on the radio immediately. if the backstreet boys drop a new song its on the radio the same day. i mean i know dance music is more popular OUTSIDE of the US but come on now. i was in canada and thats when i first heard alice deejay-better off alone and eiffel 65-blue on the radio. i came back to the US and didnt hear those songs on the radio till almost a year later on 103.5 KTU! then of course they played them to death and everyone got sick of them. i love all types of music and i listen to everything. but when it comes to dance music (freestyle included of course) american radio stations just arent giving it the attention it deserves.

Almost every top 40 and top 40/rhythmic station across the country does that. They add dance extremely late, and they add everything else when it comes out. Even KTU adds dance late. They added Sandstorm a couple of months ago, but it came out nationally in October. KTU added I'll Fly With You by Gigi like 3-4 months ago, but that song has been out forever. I was reading the latest issue of DMA. I forgot what artist it was, but he was saying how they always pick up on dance music late in the US. The artist will release a new cd, and that artist's older stuff will then become popular in the US. I don't get it. The US created freestyle, house, and techno, yet it's more popular in other countries. 😕 I have about 10 tapes of old school Q102 jingles, djs talking, and music. I was listening today. Damn, they used to be good.
Listen to this set of music(this was back in 97):
Acid Factory- You Are My Fantasy
Gina G- Gimme Some Love
TKA- Maria
Sugar Hill Gang- Apache
Brooklyn Bounce- Get Ready To Bounce
Bad Yard Club- In De Ghetto
Natorious BIG- Mo Money
MCSC and Stevie B- Dream Girl
Proyecto Uno- Pumpin'
Yoco Ross- My Baby
Max a Million- Sexual Healing
In a Dream- Rockell
Third Eye Blind- Semi Charmed Life 😕
Coro- My Fallen Angel

I guess those days will never come back.
But, at least today we have the internet. I always listen to KTU Energy 9275 online.

Wow ... I saw this thread and had to respond. I won't get TOO deep into things, since it really doesn't matter anymore. I've spoken of the problem with the WAY that radio is RUN today, but people still don't seem to understand it.

Chris/Joe .. believe me, I've tried EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN with Q102, back in my NAIVE days -- so, today, I just don't let things bother me. We have to come to the realization that it's NOT 1990 anymore, when Q102 was probably the BEST station that any of us knew ! You could actually CALL the station, request a song, and HEAR it -- and boy, did they play FREESTYLE -- yes, TONS of it back then. Unfortunately, it's 2001 now, almost all radio stations are corporately owned by HUGE companies who don't give a rat's ASS about what the listeners wanna hear, they just want to make more $$$.

Also, on-air jocks have just about as much influence as to what gets played on THE STATION THEY WORK for as you or I do ! They bascially have NO SAY. I really thought that all the YEARS that I called begging to hear certain music (when Q started to blow) that they would actually LISTEN -- yeah right ! The sad part is, most of them WANTED to play certain music, but their hands were tied. The station is already 'pre-programmed' ... Playing requests (while still advertised) is actually something that never happens -- when you hear a jock say, oh, here's 'whatever song' for 'Joe' -- it just so happened to be COMING UP in the pre-programmed list ! What a crock -- and people think they played the song for THEM !

Two such jocks from Q102 that I know LOVE freestyle are at least getting a chance to play it -- Bartel is now working at the great Orlando station -- Party 95.3 -- and every time he plays a freestyle song, or does the lunch mix, you can hear him ID songs and you can FEEL his love for the music. Also, Jeff Mason is now doing the morning show at Energy 92.7 in Chicago -- I've been talking to him recently, and he is definitely happy to be playing HIS favorite kind of music -- and he MAY actually have SOME say, because since he has been there, MORE freestyle has been creeping up on Energy.

As John said, in MOST cases, you need to go PAST the jocks (which is almost impossible). And even if you DO get that far (I have in the past), it's NOT gonna matter. Q has the HIGHEST ratings it's ever had, and they're NOT gonna change now. Philly radio is in such disarray, it's not even funny. I haven't really listened to Q for probably a good 3-4 YEARS. We have a better chance of possibly getting a poorly performing station to flip formats. I thought we had a chance with Jammin Gold (95.7) but all they did was become another BORING ROCK AC station -- so much VARIETY in Philly isn't there ??? Maybe after 104.5 changes it's format AGAIN, they'll change -- how does Party 104.5 or Energy 104.5 sound ??? The damn dance format whole is SO big in Philly, I could probably fit TEXAS through it ! Well, I guess we can dream ....

I just listen to 99.3/105.5 in the car (The Buzz - Atlantic City), or tapes and CD's ... NOTHING else is worth listening to, except for maybe the 80's station here and there (again, mostly ROCK though). And Chris, I was gonna tell you to just listen on-line to ENERGY 92 (Chicago), when you're online, but you already know about that -- now, THERE is a station that reminds me of the OLD Q102 -- they have a program director and a music director with a LOT of freedom -- they add just about ANY dance cut they want to -- believe me, this station is UNIQUE in that they are so UNLIKE every other 'cookie cutter' station out there -- actually, they may be TOO edgy -- but, I LOVE the station !! They are definitely NOT behind when adding new dance music -- and, the Buzz (Atlantic City) is very good at playing lots of great stuff too !

I said I wouldn't make this a long rant, but I'm very passionate when it comes to this radio BULL .. lol

^5 (high five) to joe...

I guess I not the only one that has that problem with radio stations when I request freestyle. They either, never heard it, or can't play it due to what their superior has them play for the duration of their shift. All I hear on kiss 98.5 is NYSYNC, Britney Spears, etc...ugh. LMAOO..I just walked in the kitchen to turn the radio on for the hell of it, and sure enough same old songs...!! But I might do what Jack did and politely write a letter to the radio station w/ CF's link. (ppsstt KTU extend your towers a little farther west NY!!!)

Thats what I like here, seeing everyone come together and support one another on freestyle!! I feel the loooovvvve!!!

<huggles>😀

i dont know were she gets off sayin i was rude to her everyone at Q is rude when i call and email and im still waiting i just asked for freestyle its not like i called and said can i have your job which i would do and fire everyone and take over as a freestyle dj dreams come true sometimes i asked them where can i get a debbie deb remix they said you cant lol i dont belive that it has to be somewhere around if they hate freestyle so much over there they should give me all there cds and records and i want a ban on Q i wish i knew people who go to the clubs that Q dose i would say ban them and watch ratings drop and laugh to my self

Q just has a big head...

i rarely listen to 102 anymore...like Dez said....THE BUZZ is the best when at the shore. ALTHOUGH....if im correct 102 DOES play alot more freestyle between 2-4 am on sat night/sun morning

but um..thats 2-4 am....figures

i been up at 2 - and 4 and i dont hear freestyle i guess they did away with it . i been have problems sleepin so i pop the radio on but dont hear nothing but the same stuff they play all day

Q102 did away with that 2-4 show awhile ago, along with the Back In the Day Dance Party. It's ashame. Also, the songs being played on Club 102 are not the songs being played at Egypt (club that Q102 says they are live from during Club 102). Egypt actually does play house and dance on Saturdays, but I guess Q102 thinks that is a little too hard for them, so they have to broadcast rap and top 40 on Club 102.

Chris is absolutely right -- the 'Q102 After Hours' show has been LONG gone from the station -- I believe it's been gone for OVER a year now, maybe even longer. But, before it DID die, you WOULD hear the occasional 30 minute mix set that DID contain SOME freestyle. A few of them were actually pretty good - unfortunately, they were on between 2-4 AM. That was about the ONLY time in the past 3-4 years that I would even LISTEN to Q ... with the exception of a noon mix here and there. Other than that, the station SUCKED then, and continues to BLOW now !
They never compared to the OLD "Q102 After Hours" show from the early 90's ... you'd hear freestyle ALL night and then MORE freestyle during that show too!

And, I DO love how they make people THINK they are actually broadcasting LIVE from Egypt -- that's been 'simulated' for about 2 years now too -- and it's a shame, because when they really DID broadcast from Egypt (and the Eighth Floor on Sundays), you WOULD hear some decent music .. oh well ! That whole "Club 102" show is a JOKE, and the loss of the "Back In The Day Dance Party" a few years ago sucks too (Jammin Gold picked it up though and had it till they flipped formats).

Just some other info on 'The Buzz' at the shore. On Friday nights, they broadcast LIVE (yes, REALLY live) from the club in Caesars casino -- and they play a little bit of everything from disco, to freestyle, to club, to today's house and dance music -- that's from 10pm - 2am. Then, on Saturday nights, they have 'in-studio' mixing from 9pm - midnight, and then they broadcast LIVE from Deja Vu Nightclub (on the boardwalk in AC) from 12 midnight till around 4:00am ... They also have their OWN weekday noon lunch show (it's not mixed though) where you'll hear a LOT of freestyle and dance classics. A REAL dance station -- which PHILLY needs desperately ... but, it's probably NOT gonna happen !

😡

ummmmm i agree with dj dez
he is right
the only time we (philly) gets a freestyle radio time is if we (the people in philly)
get it started.

i don't have any pull like that you know

peace from philly
