YEA WHAT THEY SAID!!! LMFAO .....I was gonna say Cynthia and TKA as singers and behind the scenes I would have to say Little Louie Vega

and of course the FANS!!!!

From what I heard stories from my mother didn't "Paco" the first DJ at the old KTU represent the freestyle first? Just asking.😕

John Parker is right!!..B91 played the best freestyle during that time!! I recently listened to a tape from 1989 and it was awesome!!!!

Randi (FreestyleGal)

i will have to agree wit Orgntr and say, The Latin Rascals & Joey Gardner. either one of those names were all over tha production of groundbreaking freestyle hits that came out when freestyle was just coming along. all tha "legends" that we luv (like TKA, Nayobe, Cover Girls, Cynthia, George LaMond, etc.) either Joey or Latin Rascals had a big part in making them a success. whether it was right from tha start, or later on in their careers

as far as artists i'd have to say TKA & The Cover Girls because they put freestyle in your face by releasing hit after hit with quality production! i think they both definately were tha ones who made tha freestyle sound popular back when freestyle was still new. and i also without a doubt i gotta throw in Lisette Melendez! for changing freestyle totally! between her & Carlos Berrios, they gave freestyle life at a time when it was beginning to suffer and created a whole new sound that would save it (at least for awhile).

Mic Mac stuff was hot but i think they ultimately lose credibility to be known as "influential" with how they cheated their artists. i mean, we were luvin' tha stuff we heard, but behind tha scenes tha artists weren't being treated right or given fair deals. thats not very positive or influential!

peace,
Mark

Well the most influential people in Freestyle today are Willie Valentin,John Parker Robbins,Judy Torres,Johhny Budz and Jack G,Cynthia,George Lamond and Marc Anthony who are always in the spotlight on tv,the radio or the internet.Wherever you hear about them you will find stories or qoutes about Freestyle and they are what get the people intrested in it and get the mainstream to discover and buy freestyle.George Lamond & Cynthia are actually popular outside freestyle in the Latinn, pop & r&b markets and Marc Anthony first performed freestyle. They get on tv more often than anybody in Freestyle.Cynthia also modeled for a young lady's clothing store and appeared on billboard's nationwide.GOD Bless,Omar 🙂

the only influence joey gardner had was helping it come to its demise!!! he did do things to help it (make money) when it was popular but he quickly jumped the bandwagon...he still does the same to this day!!!!!!

oh shut up toni. whatever joey decides to do as far as "changing up" is to work on selling material rather than just being apart of bringing you the same old freestyle crap by no name artists who wont get anywhere because it wont sell. do you guys see what it takes to be a producer? theres alot of investment involved and primarily i'd think they rather invest on something that would be better for the sake of their music and career. thats what producings all about. you guys dont stop and think at all the money that is spent in bringing you non selling freestyle. you cant just do freestyle nowadays and expect it to sell. cuz to tell you guys the truth it wont. now, i dont know what willies doing in order to bring you guys freestyle cuz to tell you the truth he'd be out of business right now. so you guys know that the money hes spending on freestyle is coming from somewhere else or maybe he has his big brother whos got his back. who knows? its none of my business anyway. my point is that freestyle wont sell. at least not todays freestyle.

........Mark i just like to add on to that..........they did actually have an impact for other record companies to produce low quality mono sounding, vocally rotten, non creative freestyle songs and at the same time theyre money hungry. thats why freestyle never got any further than it did. its funny what these producers would do for money. if i were them i wouldnt dare put out another freestyle album until i get some stereo into that shit, along a casting audition for a record deal for the artists with better vocals and a good compromise between myself and the artist. i would also "change up". do you guys think freestyles getting anywhere now? all of freestyles listeners are majorally the people that grew up listening to it or who know about the old school freestyle. theres no born freestyle new schoolers. you must give it a different sound but with a good past influence.......somehing that you hear and right then recognize that its freestyle but in a different swing. todays swing. as far as mic mac they did have alot of hits here and there that i like....i just feel like they screwed up right when they were ahead. lack of creativeness because of their money hungryness were the reasons why they were forced to shut down and spawned a whole generation full of beat biters and whack singers with the same old tune. they only unfortunately impressed the latins who thought that the material was great due to their latin pride. i just wish it wouldve been better music.

Oh, really?!

That was one of the most asinine remarks I've ever read on this board. Were you implying that Willie's getting money from illicit sources?

Also, what in the hell did you mean by:
"...they only unfortunately impressed the latins..."?

Was that a criticism of Latinos, Micmac, or both? 😕

Either way, you should have chosen your language more carefully. I take it you are not Latino, or, perhaps, you are one, but you pretend as though you are not.

Fernando, why do you think that my post is asinine? one of the most at that? is it because i speak the truth? im sorry if i have offended anyone but at the moment i was fed up inside about freestyles downfall and the thought s that i had if it wouldve made it. Unfortunately, theres more than just music behind it all that had to do with its demise and i wasnt afraid of speaking out.

Yes, i was implying that willie is probably getting his money from other sources. but like i said it wasnt any of my business and i didnt go further into that nor did i want to. that wasnt the point though. the point that i was trying to make was that the freestyle you hear nowadays (the tired old school underground stuff) wont ever succeed. i see others trying to change it up like Collage and George Lamond which i think is a great step but the problem is that we need other artists to follow that same creative path. I can careless where Willie gets his money, all im telling you is that it wont grow, itll just remain "around the way" music. which would be bad for his sales.

"i just wish it wouldve been better music..."

Now why do you think i posted that last sentence? I would like to have pride over great latin freestyle, the thing is there isnt much pride i can have over it. I am latin. Im not afraid of admitting it. I was born and raised in paterson nj and am of puertorican decent.

yo orginator thats one of the things i hate about freestyle "fans"...they are BLIND...they see everything through rose colored glasses...they like the big names...they defend them to the death even though they are WRONG...for example joey gardner and k7...both sold out...both stabbed and killed freestlyle...let me tell u it wasnt for the betterment of our music it was for the fattening of thier wallets...yeah as people i dont blame them but as a freestyle fan i hold them responsible!!!! so when u are talking about influence they have the biggest and the worst!!!
and watch my words get hyped for a great tka "comeback"...then watch what ur boys k7 and joey gardner do for ur music...it will be the same crap...get popular with tka and then leave them and the fans in the dust...history repeats itself!!!!

as for willie v....how can u even talk trash about him...he is one of the few staying true to freestyle...i dont care if he robbed a bank to get his money...the point is he makes our music...and just if record sales are low there are other ways of getting profits of music besides record sales!!!!

the ignorance and blindness in the freestyle community is getting so annoying!!!!!! i wish people would just open thier eyes and stop being star strucked and lead like sheep!!!! cause believe me the shepards u are following do not have anything in mind but to put money in thier pockets!!!!!

IF IT MAKES ANYONE FEEL ANY BETTER, JOEY GARDNER DOESN'T ROLL ANYMORE W/ KAYEL & TKA. TY BLESS IS THE MAN BEHIND THE SCENES NOW, AND HE IS DOING A HELL OF A JOB.

ABOUT THE WILLIE V ISSUE, NO MATTER WHAT, THE MAN IS SPENDING $ IN WHAT HE LOVES - FREESTYLE. MAD PROPS TO HIM. REMEMBER, PABLO ESCOBAR WILL ALWAYS BE LOVED IN HIS HOMETOWN & BY HIS PEEPS..

I am only going to leave you guys with a question..................Wouldnt it be great to see freestyle GROW?
Grow big enough for everyone to see on t.v.? Big enough for weekly tours around the globe? TKA, George Lamond every second on mtv?

Right now, you are responsible for the music you hear. I just feel that as a part of it we should do something about it.

i would have to say judy Torres for the females
and male i would have to sayJohnny o or stevie b
