Its called Progressive Freestyle people, the same way Progressive house it not like traditional house and the same way progressive Rock is not the same as Classic Rock. I see Stars is Freestyle. I dont even like the song, I think the Chourus is cheesy. Not all freestyle songs are about relationships, heartbreak, heartache, break ups and makeups.(even though "I see Stars" is, listen to the rest of the song) Its things like this that help keep freestyle down and not "progress" (pun intented). Everytime Freestyle whether its in Oldschool, progressive or kinda pop-ish there is a "Its not freestyle" backlash. So If "we" (freestyle) have 4-10 major hits and possible billboard charters, to so some it end un being 0-2 hits.We need to enbrase our Expanding and progressing genre. Progressive Freestyle is TODAYS Freestyle.

Fireball you are totally wrong. Freestyle needed something like "I See Stars". It was different and Robin was not afraid to take Freestyle to a new level. I love all types of Freestyle and I have to say that I SEE STARS was my favorite Freestyle song of 2000. I think her new song is great also.

I agree 100%....after all, house music now sounds NOTHING like it did 10 years ago, but it's still house music, why the hell does freestyle have to sound the same now as it did 15 years ago? What's the saying about "beating a dead horse?".....

"I see stars' is NO WHERE NEAR 'trance'. not even close. If anything its just breakbeat. Trance is a totally different sound from this genre.

POP music is just the POPULAR choice of music at that time, and if a song by a freestyle artisit comes into the top 10 music charts and stays there for 7 weeks in a row, are we going to change the type of music it is to POP???? screw that... Madonna has changed her music to a technoe kind of beat, does that mean she is into techno now...NO, she is still under POP when you go buy her CD at Strawberries. If Freestyle was Freestyle... Whoever called it that...That person needed to give it a name~ Thats all it is...A NAME... Genre or not.... Its MUSIC... and I love it, no matter what we call it... but its still just FREESTYLE!!!

I Too Agree

It is Freestyle!! Speakin' of witch, be on the Look out for a Progressvie Freestyle trck Remixed by Cibola. Its called "Boom" by a 15 year old Kid from outta Miami. Hes name is Richard Lugo on ELEKTRA Records.

The Single is now out in Store, but have a Popish version of the song, Look for the 12" for Cibola's Mix. The popish version goes on & off from a Planet Rock beat, to a Pop / Dance Beat.

The Video is set to Impact MTV some time within the nezt week.

Richard Lugo is NOW on Tour with H-Town, and will be opening the sold out show Here in the Bay Area.

I will be playing this and other New tracks this wed on the valentine afternoon show at www.ksjs.org

This is a Record your Local Radio station will play, so call to request the song "Boom" Cibola's Version

Just as a note, The production sounds somewhatg to "Next To Me" by Angelina & The Kumbia Kings off the "Ve A Mi" album.

hey delcious D!
whats up bro!
that song "boom" by lugo has been getting lots of play in florida, i also had the chance to see him perform at the party 95.3 show in orlando a few weeks ago....he also performed at the power 96 show last year...

Fireball, if "Stars" is Freestyle, then by your standards "Feels So Good" or "Sky" by Sonique is also Freestyle, because they have the same sound. (Look at my reply to Francis about "I See Stars".)

"I see stars" is Freestyle. There are breakbeat, trance, euro and freestyle mixes on the maxi single. I consider "Sky" by Sonique to be breakbeat/freestyle. That is what I think of it as and that is what I will call it. I love Freestyle and I love Breakbeat. I know the difference but can tell the similarities. Look at Freestyle artists that have tried copying this new sound just like they did when Planet Soul released "Set u Free" back in '96. Freestyle needs to advance or it will die out eventually if it does not change with the times. House mix has changed and I think Freestyle is...but some people seem to be caught up with old school and do not like change. I loved the old school sound but I also love the new or progressive sounding Freestyle. I don't want this genre to die out since it is and always has been my favorite type of music.

They are all FREESTYLE, "Progressive Freesstyle" they will not all sound similar. some are closer to Breakbeat some will be closer to old school, some will be more trancy some will have a unique sound of their own. Sonique is progressive freesyle/Breakbeat, thats how I label "Sky" "Feels so good" and "Cold and Lonlely" from her album. The more lyricaly challeged songs I usually just consider as breakbeat(or breaks) (which is an offspring of Freestyle anyway).

I dont know why freestyle always had this "its not freestyle" problem. I mean this self distructive behavior has alway been there. Especially with the hitmakers, I mean Ive even encountered people whove said SHANNON,TAYLOR DAYNE, INFORMATION SOCIETY, and even STEVIE B and EXPOSE were not freestyle at some point. there was that New york-miami thing, the Old School-Newschool thing, Latinhiphop-Classic thing, the "Its statred with TKA/Covergirls, It started with Shannon, It started with LISALISA, so everything before is not.. etc... I heard it all. And remember TRIPHOP, guess who killed that name off LOL, Guilty.

I think when you look at a song like "I see Stars" it crosses a lot of musical genres. American Trance is a bit different then that of our neighbors across the pond. I wouldn't expect Paul Oakenfold to play "I See Stars" by American Trance DJ George Acosta has played it often. A lot of the Florida breakbeat stuff and freestyle records contain elements of a good trance record. Also there is no set definitions of these musical genres. What is Progressive House? Trance? Even Freestyle? Ask 10 people get 10 different answers. As long as it's good dance music and it fits your definition, then that's what it is. I believe that "I see Stars" is a trance record, SHAMLESS PLUG AHEAD ALERT, or else I wouldn't have put it on my "Best of Trance, Volume One" CD.

Freestyle music has a lot of problems and maybe it would take an annual Club Freestyle summit to get people together and share ideas, and make a real run at getting consumers interested in this music again. There definitley is support out there but this used to be THE music. Those days are over now but we can always work a little harder to make that situation happen again. I'm willing, are you?

I agree with John 100 %, a freestyle meeting is really good, a big suggestion is having it in Miami at the Winter Music Conference .. We have done this before but never had the internet to utilize it as much .. The conference is in South Beach from March 23-28 . Whoever thinks this is a good idea just post your opinions. randy

TRY an online one first, you are more likely to get more people people that way, or even better by phone thru one of those conference calls. So who is invited?

Everybody?

The industry aka: The artist, The producers, the Labels(small & Big), the Distributers, The marketers/A&R, The Magazine Publishers, The Tv show Reps, Club Owners, Djs,
Radio music Directors and program directors.

This cannot be a small 10 person meeting in any way as far as I see.

PS. I think more time should be spent on more positive stuff about Freestyle, so Im getting off this "its not freestyle stuff" I know all the styles and like all the styles of Freestyle and I dont have time to try to convince people that obviously like a particular style more than another and would like it to stay that way (aka the purists) It dont matter in about 5 years Progressive Freestyle will be treated just like New School, and Just like Miami freestyle. Somme will just take time to addapt

I guess this topic will change to this possible summit
