Hsve you guys heard the controversy going on in Nebraska about an inmste waiting to get on the national transplant list for a new liver? This has caused heated discussion in and out of the medical profession. The women would be up for parole in 2006 and says her biggest thing would be to take her now 3-year-old grandson to the movies and watch him grow into a young man. The woman has also stated that if someone who was a young mother or whose circumsatnces were different, should be out ahead of her on the list. She has until April to get her weight down and her diabetes under control before they even consider her for being on the list.

I honestly don't know what to think about this. The woman is a recovering heroin addict and alcoholic. Granted people make mistakes, but if she's given a new liver, someone behind her on the list could die. Then again it's not fair to discriminate based on the fact she's in prison. So, what do you guys think of this?

well, continued usgae of alchol does result in some type of liver damage so the woman should not even be eligible for one, that my personal opinion.

if she was in prison for life, i would say "forget her" because thats life but she does deserve a second chance.

Wow that is a hard one. I don't believe that everyone does deserve a second chance. I think it depends more on the circumstances. OK she has turned herlife around yes, but is the liver transplant the only thing she needs to prolong her life, or are there other things that she might be suffering from as a result of being a heroin addict? Because if she is suffering from other ailments the Liver transplant isn't going to do her any good, therefore the other person waiting on the list shouldn't be passed over.

I mean really you had no problem takin your hit everyday, and not thinking about your family while you were doing it right?

I don't know maybe I just have a thing about people purposefully phucking themselves up and everyone around them.

Well said Naya. She's been drug free for 15 or 20 years. Part of me thinks she should get it, but then part of me is just saying no way. She knew what she was doing to herself when she abused alcohol and drugs and she did it any way. Plus her parole in 2006 isn't a garuntee. So if she gets the new liver, it kind of seems like what's the point if she's still going to be in jail. I don't know.

Sorry, but I say keep her ass off the list.

She's in jail for a reason, she disobeyed the laws of our society. Why should she receive this benefit, possibly taking it away from a law abiding citizen?

She should do what she has to for the transplant, then when she receives parole, and is a citizen in good standing again, then can get added to the list.

because there is something about cruel and unusual punishment there was a case in california like this and it was covered by 60MIn

WOW!

CHUCK...I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF...I AGREE WITH YOU 100%...DEAL WITH THE ABUSE YOU PUT YOUR BODY THRU...IT'S NOT FAIR THAT SHE GETS FREE FOOD,ROOM AND BOARD,AND CLOTHES AT THE TAX PAYERS EXPENSE AND NOW SHE WANTS HIS LIVER TOO..GET THE FUNK OUT OF HERE...HEY I'VE MADE MISTAKES BUT DAMN I'M NOT GREEDY...SHE SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THE CONSEQUENCES, EVEN THOUGH WHEN YOUR ON DRUGS, I IMAGINE YOU DON'T HAVE MUCH AWARENESS...SELFISH...
