Reason for strike:

Thousands of transit workers voted last weekend to support a strike if union leaders fail to work out a contract with the MTA by Sunday. The two sides remain far apart, with the union seeking 24 percent in raises over three years and the MTA offering no wage increase in the first year, with future raises tied directly to productivity levels.
