As far as the first Freestyle record to sample an actual loop from "Planet Rock" - as much as it pains me to say it, I can't think of anything prior to the 1991 album version of "Take Me In Your Arms" by Lil' Suzy. That open the flood gates...and the rest is history that is better off being forgotten.

Sounds like another snare may be layered over it and it may have been tweaked slightly but still it's Planet Rock. But whether it was recreated or not it's still the Planet Rock loop, feel me?

BTW, I love this version of "Now & Forever". Probably because the first time I ever heard the track was on the MicMac Dance Party Vol 1 which I played a million and one times. I didn't hear the OG version till I bought the vinyl a bit later.

I may be wrong but wasn't "Take Me In Your Arms" released in 1992 and "Now & Forever" released in 1990 or 1991? Sorry, my vinyl is in storage so I can't check to be exact.

You are correct - "Take Me In Your Arms" was released as a single in 1992, but the album it first appeared on (Love Can Wait) was released in the fall of 1991 about 6 months ahead of the 12" single.

"Now & Forever" - well you know Micmac never printed dates on the labels, but if I recall correctly it began making noise in the Fall of 1990...

If an actual sampled loop from "Planet Rock" is buried underneath an additional drum track - I don't hear it. If it is recreated as I believe it is, there is no way it can be a "Planet Rock" loop - unless you are referring to actual drum pattern. I would then consider it "Planet Rock" - but only in terms of the style, not a literal reference to the drums...

I think we may be talking about 2 different versions. The one I have is Planet Rock, no doubt.

It's possible. The one I am referring to is on the "Now & Forever" 12" single.

Hmm, the one I have is an mp3. I'm pretty positive that it is also from the 12". My vinyl is in storage so I can't check to be exact but I'm pretty sure.

According to the entry at Discogs.com - the mix I am referring to is:

"Now And Forever" (Florida's-Classic-Hip-Hop-Bass-Music Mix)

I hear ya Rhoq, but like I said, whether or not it's a recreation or a straight sample, it's still the Planet Rock loop, feel me? So this one counts as using the loop. I personally thought this is the first track to use it. I wanna know if there were any others before it. I know "Take Me In Your Arms" blew the loop up but I wanna know who used it first.

If it indeed does use a sampled loop straight off of the "Planet Rock" single - then yes, I think it would be the first. If it's a recreation, like I believe it is then I think "Take Me In Your Arms" would be the first to feature a sampled loop from "Planet Rock". 😉

Nah that beat was different.

Rhoq, I'm curious, we need to exchange mp3's so we can see if we have the same version.

Also as far as the Planet Rock beat, I meant using the same sounds and pattern whether recreated or not.

This is getting difficult, lmao. :buggin

sorry mibadboy I am so sorry, i didn't see that.. I will have it sent to you too. where too?

but only to you too, the album is coming out with the old music on it..😉

Nyasia....THANK YOU so much....but i have it already and just acquired it recently. I first heard it on MicMac vol 1...and it was the hottest thing. I love that version so much...it just brings the melody, your voice to another level. I don't know what these people are hearing but I hear Planet Rock - maybe not through the whole song but it's there. i will definitely be getting your new album...can't wait!

I play your song and Marisol's 'Why Can't You Tell Me' (2K1 mix) over and over when working out/on the treadmill...lol

Gotcha...

I see what you're saying now. More than likely we are talking about the same version. In that regard - yes, "Now & Forever" features a very faithful recreation of the famed beat, but it's not an actual sampled loop of "Planet Rock".

I was interpreting your original question as "What was the first Freestyle record to feature a sampled loop of the 'Planet Rock' beat?" My answer to that question is still "Take Me In Your Arms" by Lil' Suzy 😉
