Ok here's my two cents, but I aint one to talk cause I used Plaent rock as well In some cuts. I think that beat Is universal to the sound of freestyle and it has roots in making this music classic sounding. But i think thats what everyone likes. I like the classic sound, it aint about how many times every producer uses it. its about how the melody and voice and arrangement of the song and music is used around the beat to embrace it. Catchy hooks can be made from it. In latin music we use a rhythmic tempo called "the clave" to arrange and compose songs. Planet rock beat is the "the clave" of freestyle music. Any song in the freestlye genre can be remixed with the planet beat and still sound phat. "BOOM,CHICK,BOOM..........CHICK,BOOM,CHICK,BOOM,BOOM,CHICK,BOOM,BOOM" its phat and you ALL know it period. Think about it, everyone has ONE song (even if its Planet rock itself) that has that beat and YOU like it. Collage,lil suzy , nyasia, adam,rockell all got record sales and airplay from using that beat nuff said right there, a million records were sold because of it................

I wouldn't mind it being in some songs just as long the track has been done well, given the flavor along with the bpm's....ex's: "When will I see you...." by TKA *unreleased version*, now that's one perfect example. Mixed right and put together along with their vocals the beat blends well. Or Joee's: "Im doing better than u think" to me there's a hint of the Planet Rock beat in there. and a good job to it. All and all, It wouldn't hurt a song, it depends how well it's produced/mixed at the lab.
I've bought some comps and one or two would sound the same song one track # after another with the ''tired'' Planet Rock beat. 😱

K7 and I have this song called "Gimme Booty!!" It's the most amazing use of Planet Rock ever, and for that reason It's never been released.. I mean the beat is one thing, but the beat and the bassline has been done to death. Not that it's not hot, not that it wont ever work again, but it's done to death. On "Gimme Booty" we give props to African Bambaata to make sure the heads know where it came from.. I might leak it so ya'll could dance a little.. Any beat is fine but if one track had stranglehold on one genre it's Planet Rock over freestyle.. Free the style.. Use another beat..

Ok, first thing first, much respect to everyone who use that planet rock beat and blew up with it, I never said that the planet rock beat was wack, my point was that everybody was just using it toooooooooo much, second thing, to Tito Puente jr, I got a lot of respect for you and your family especially your dad, but I can compare the planet rock beat as a clave, when bam did planet rock it was not done as a freestyle record, it was more like a b-boy/hip hop record (Zulu nation feel me), so to call the planet rock beat a clave for freestyle music I can compare the two sorry, by the way salsa music stand in a class by itself not freestyle music, (at least not the freestyle music now, I love the old freestyle better), and last thing, every time someone takes a sample that was hot and do something else to it and is not as hot as the original, my opinion as a producer, YOU PLAY YOURSELF!. Freestyle music was not built on the planet rock beat, it was built on a Latin melody and hip hop drum patterns. AND THAT’S WAS UP!!!!!

One of my all time Favorites is STILL MISS YOU!! I love both versions, but Evelyn just hit it out of the ball park, with the Cover Girls version. Fascination's version is hot too. I like how Paradise mixes both versions on their show!
