Could some one explain to me, what it means when a Record label/company has the original dats to your music and wont allow you access to them?

Can't you just strip down a retail released cd, in a studio & use that?

Basically I'm refering to problems some artist face when a label closes or keeps the original discs/reels/dats.

Are the songs yours? Did you copyright them? Did you sign a contract? If the label paid for the studio time and to produce the songs then they own those rights. Please e-mail me and I'll give you more insight on this matter.
