In NYC handling my biz!!!!
My mom is 59 yrs old and she now realized why I have a cell phone although I've explained it to her a thousand times. I used to tell her that it's an emergency tool that is very much required today especially for a female. I like to have my cell when I'm in the car. You never know if something happens on the road and you need to call for help.

Well, about 2 or 3 weeks ago, my mom's car just stopped on her and it was on one of those very cold days. She got of the car and put the hood up to see if someone would come to assist her. She asked a couple of people if they could give her a boost and they told her no. One person told her he didn't have cables and she told him she did and he still told her no. So she was out there for a while before finally getting help.

Well I don't have to tell you how furious she was by the time she got home. She called me pissed as hell and told me that NOW she'll have to take my advice and get a cell phone. To prevent the story from getting longer, she's on her way here now because I ordered a cell phone for her on Saturday and she received it today but she doesn't have any knowledge on how to get it started or use it. So I'll be an instructor this evening showing her how to work a cell phone.

I think older people should have cell phones for emergency purposes because I find that the majority of society are NOT that nice anymore and don't care to help anyone even if they are older.

What do you think?

I totally agree! Although my mom drives me nuts with her phone. She knows how to make a call on her phone but give her mine (which is basically the same) and she's got to ask me how to make the call! :lol

I'm like dial the number and push the lil green phone! :shush

hah. but too bad your mom had to learn the hard way.

my dad's made my 87-year-old grandpa get a cell (but mostly because he has terrible sense of direction & whenever we take him places we usually lose him in crowds LOL). and there have been cellphones in my house for almost 10 years.. now, im the only person in my (5-person) family without one yet!

Big necessity (sp) for older people. My mom has one but her emergencies consist of " Hello did you eat or what are you doing" :lol

LaBetty.. I gotta say that my parents arent that old.. but my DAD .. omg when it comes to any thing technical he's lost.. Needless to say both him and my mom now have cells! I never leave a message cuz I know they dont know how retrieve it!

Seductive, that's funny. :lol I guess your mom got used to the phone that looking out for her daughter is still very much important to her. She wants to know if you've eaten. Good mommy.

Rican, I have a feeling I'm going to be doing the same thing. I won't be leaving messages either. When it comes to computer technology she never wants to hear of it but I tell her that's the way of the world.

I think anyone over the age of 18 should have a cell phone lol

The reason is...it's important to have...at times it can mean saving your life.

I told my mom that I want to get her one but she is like "I dont know how to use that thing!" but Labetty I told her the same thing you did to your mom! lol

Ant, I guess they're so old fashioned they're too set in their ways. But it is a "lifesaver" to have a cell phone.
