As others have said, a mix of the old w/the new would be great.

Rhoq, got a question for ya, do you totally hate the new school Freestyle or something, 'cause from your post it sounds like you don't think those that like "New School" Freestyle are real fans, and to be honest, that bothers me. I like the old school stuff too, but I love the new high energy type Freestyle a little more, that shouldn't mean I'm not a "real" fan of Freestyle. If I misunderstood your post, just lemme know. 😀

Eluder, if that is the impression you are getting I am sorry. That is not the way I feel at all. I do believe that there are 3 types of Freestyle fans...

Type 1 is the "Freestyle Purist" - basically they only accept the Old School

Type 2 are the fans of the New School - this type has 3 sub-divisions
a. The New School sound of the mid 1990's (Viper, Tamania, Artistik, etc.)
b. The Progressive sound of the late 1990's/2000's (Angelina, Paradigm, etc.)
c. Fans of both a & b

Type 3 is a Freestyle fan who enjoys something from the Old School and New School (whether it is Type 2-c, Type 2-a or Type 2-b)

Now although I love the Old School, I like to think of myself as a "Type 3 Freestyle Fan" as I enjoy the Old & New School sounds, but as far as the New School goes I lean towards the "Type 2-a" sound.

What you have to understand is that you are talking about 2 (maybe 3) different generations of Freestyle fans as each of the 3 styles are different. Someone who is a fan of the New School may not necessarily be familiar with the Old School as many New School Freestyle fans discovered the music during the mid 1990's. When the Progressive sound became popular this created yet another base of fans. Again, a fan of the Progressive Freestyle sound may not really be into the more traditional sound of the Old School and New School sounds, or you can have a fan who enjoys it all...

Now we have 3 different styles with 3 different sounds overall, but yet they are all the same type of music - FREESTYLE. It is kind of hard for me at times as a hardcore fan of the Old School to relate to fans of the newer sounds. I respect each generation of Freestyle for what it has done for the music, but I still believe in my heart that "There Is No School Like The Old School". No matter what type of Freestyle you prefer, the bottom line is that you support the music no mater what!

idea?

willie,
how about doing a nu school and old school version of each song?my brother and i are making sure that there is a version of each song that people will hopefully like on every cd. we have enlisted the skills of two other producers to do the nu sckool and we will do the old school mix. try doing that and see what people think.
let me know if you need an old school mix of the george anthony song. i would be down to do it.

No problemo Mr. Rhoq, all is well... I am a fan of all sorts of Freestyle, but I obviously was exposed to the new school Freestyle as I only started listening to Freestyle in the mid 90's I think, and didn't get into it huge till the late 90's. Plus, most of the Freestyle I hear is the Canadian Freestyle (I live in Toronto), which I believe is known as Progressive, also I was a fan of Dance/Euro way before Freestyle, so I guess that has "steered" me towards the Progressive styling. Anyway, I'm just saying I'm a fan of Freestyle, no matter what type it is, but I like the new stuff a tad more. 🙂 Freestyle rocks!

YO WIL...

Ive Been Meaning 2 Talk 2 U About This Debate.
Its Like This:
Definately Have Old Skool Flavor.
And New Skool. BUT NOT THE NEW STUFF OF 2day. U know What I Mean.
When U Had The Artistik Comps Those Had Some Slammin Productions. And They Were 100% New Skool But Still Could Be Pumped And Be Proud Freestyle Is Still Going.
Unlike 2day With The Planet Rock Stuff...
But Im Speaking For Many People.
Keep It Old And New But Keep The New Skool Sound U Started With.
Peace,
P.S. REMAKE OR RE-RELEASE THE UNRELEASED TRACKS ON AVP 5...U Know...ONDARIZE...TARANTASIA & FLAIRE....The Songs Are Off The Hook Bro...U Have 2 Do Something With Em...

Kid heartbreak- When are you releasing your new school Freestyle cd? I live in Aurora, and yes I agree, my friends laugh at me when i play freestyle, or say its corny.....Whatever! I like it and I really wish it made a comeback in Chicago. The reaction at the lowrider show 2 yrs ago was good, small...but good. I would have hoped that would of been the sign, but it wasnt. I hope they do something like that again soon.

Ouch Guys what's going on? I am all old school I'd like to hear some new music with the old school sound. When I heard the new school stuff I didn't consider that freestyle but I'm told it is so I guess it is. It's good but nothing like back in the day and I don't think it ever will be.
Paresh I was at that lowrider show!! there is a Lowrider show coming June 24th. I've been keeping my eyes open to see if there is a freestyle concert along with that. I even e-mailed the Lowrider mag. but never got any response 🙁 I'm still searching. Maybe we can all come together at the show.

FreeStyleKitty-

Yah I really enjoyed seeing everyone together at the Lowrider show, I thought it was a sign Freestyle was back in Chicago!!! What was weird was all the singers had to leave right away to do another show that night in NY.

Im in on the idea we should all go together to the next show if and when it happens. Id love to meet you and the friends im making at ClubFreestyle.Com.

Paresh.

One more thing- I like old school, dont get me wrong, but the new stuff is good too, That is new school with old school flavor...ex Rockell "In a dream", any songs by Pain, 21 east, etc. Im just tired of buying mixes with the same old freestyle songs in a different order.

i do Not like the techno Freestyle (west coast style) they play on b96.

New School FreeStyle

I like New School (non-Progressive) FreeStyle with an Old School feel.
