why would I do old school? it doesnt sell. If and when I do singles I'll do it for the djs. I love it but its not worth doing anymore. I incorporate the sound of old school in all my songs. for example: edits, synths, hard kicks and snares, and maybe an orchestra hit here and there but thats it. i cant do a song with a bpm of 120. its boring. I know you old school lovers want it. and if you guys were buying it then I would definately do it. but there just isnt a big demand for the old school style with new songs. Sorry to say but old school is the past.

By the way rhoq those werent samples. I played them over my self. I kinda liked my edits on it too. I guess I'm getting old. like someone else before wrote. I am falling off. hey I cant do good songs forever,. Right Chyqo?? man he thinks 99% of my stuff sucks. but its ok.

The thing is...

The thing is, the new Nyasia song grabs me right here (*points at heart*), and this is why I feel it is a good FreeStyle song. However, I would like to hear an Old School-type FreeStyle mix if/when the single is released.

Willie, if increased sales are what you're after, then I understand how it might be time to try Randy's formula.

Fernando, increased sales? how about atleast decent sales. my last 2 comps sold about 600 copies each. thats horrible. parade 4 was more old school and that didnt do so well either. And that includes tapes. Without sales we cant survive. and thats why this is the last comp. i gotta get a real job now. LOL.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Willie,

Those sales figures you just quoted are terrible! I'm sorry to read about your troubles. I hope things get better...because we (the FreeStyle community) would be in a terrible position if you were to leave.

Oh, by the way, I am on my 12th consecutive listen of the new Nyasia song, and it sounds great, still.

Hehehe...

Galistik Records....Hehehe...that was pretty funny Willie! One of these days we might have GaLinusTic records or something eh? Well maybe there's a better name to call it! LOL....I personally like the Nyasia track, of course I was there when they started it...so maybe I'm biased but still...its well writen, we produced...clean sound quality (I'm sure that the audio stream does NOT give it justice) plus Willie dope ass beats. I say SMASH that Sh*t!!! Later..

Yep fernando they are terrible. Alot of people think we make alot of money doing freestyle. and that we sell thousands of cds. I wish!!!! even when i was with micmac we only sold about 13,000 tops. and when they released volume 2 of the parade series we only sold about 3000. so u see the sales declined in only about a year. now its at its lowwww.

Willie I can see where you are coming from with your POV, I guess we should be glad that you are continuing to contribute to the Freestyle community and trying to create a new Valentin sound for the 2000's...

But...How are 120 BPM's boring? I am glad that you still want to mix the edits with your new style (I am an edit junkie), but in my opinion edits sound cleaner over the slower, more traditional beats...

Yes, the second time listening to the Nyasia song I had a better connection and it didn't break-up on me. I was able to hear your reworking of the horns from WHO'S GOT YOUR LOVE and the edits (nice job there, bro)...

I was a big fan of PARADE 4, I thought it was better than 3...I thoroughly enjoyed the Old School elements of that compilation.

thanks rhoq. Parade 4 was fun doing, but it did horrible. Plus i got alot of stores telling me to change the sound and that made me think. At first I said F**k what they think but then saw the numbers it was selling. Mania 1 did better than parade 4. Mania 1 was even bootlegged everywhere i went. cali, mass, jersey, and even New York. so thats why i changed basically. but when I do hear a song with 120 BPM it seems to drag. i cant hear a new song with a slow beat,. Everyone i know doesnt either. when i get demos sent to me, i always listen to them infront of alot of people. and when we get a slow 120 or 118 bpm song we turn it off. or reccomend they spead it up if its a good song.

Yo Willie, first off I am terribly sorry to hear that your cd's don't sell as much. This is a suggestion only: Why don't you drop a phat Artistik Mixx yo. In my experience I notice that Freestyle mixxes sell like hotcakes. I'm talking 100 mixxes to every 1 full length. You got alot of str8 songs bro, it's just kids today want to bump that non-stop freestyle. Only deejays want to purchase singles. I've came across so many freestyle compilations & it is pathetic the sales, not to take anything away from the production alot of them are good. I try to push everything from Galaxy to Artistik to Metropolitan to Ventura Maximum to MicMac compilations to Sammy C, Miguel Reyes, Pure Pleazure, Daize, Artie & Friends Full legths & all of the Hot Production stuff. I noticed that the Jose Meledrez WorkOut(I know it's not Freestyle) a couple of years back & The Mixtress mixxes fly out the door. I mean BadBoy Bill doesn't produce as much as he did back in the day. Ol' Boy be's dropping mixxes (Bangin' the Box 1,2,3 & 4, B96 throwdown 1,2,3,4, he's not on 5, The House Connection 1 & 2 plus others, besides all of his over 20 underground mixxes). That's the future if you ask me. Like I said kids just want mixxes. DeeJays want singles for the clubs. Full Lengths ain't doing it anymore not unless you have some singles on them. I was selling this Hip Hop Cd out of TX, it had like 3 versions of Rosalinda "Give Me All Your Love" on it. I hadn't even received the 25 12" singles or the 25 cd singles from Raj yet & it was out on a compilation. That compilation flew out the door. I mean look everybody downloads the song they like from napster because it's not out on single. I'm dead serious Willie when I say you should drop a phat @$$ mixx bro. But there's a catch. I had so many Taz mixxes from Hot Productions & they just collected dust. I mean a mixx cd is supposed to be madd not just a basic blend, for that go to a club. Throw some feelings up in that b!tch. Look at Metropolitan Freestyle Megamixes. Me personally thought those mixxes were jokes. They were like the whole song just about & then they blended them. For that just slam it in. Then there are some labels that just keep dropping compilations, so many off the wall artists ::trying to think of some::, anyway as long as you make singles & mixxes you can keep it going. Me personnaly I am not into compilations. I read your playlist of your cd. If it wasn't for the fact that Poze was on wax I would not be interested in hearing that cd, SORRY Willie. I am sad to her that you are going the route of Galaxy no offense Randy much love & respect to you bro. I mean I know that nu-style is coming in stronger, but you can't leave us Ol' Skool Freestyle Lovers in the dark like that. You need to keep putting out singles with them dope accapellas & ol' skool versions for the Veterans. Anyway I'm just letting you know I was disappointed in the Synthia CD but I was happy with the Touch Me 12".....Nuff Said.........PEACE!

Man its hard to please everyone huh !! People i love the old school dont get me wrong, but like Willie said, 120 is just way too slow I cant even get into it no more, when i hear an up beat 134 freestyle or house track , im like , ooohhh dammmn this is tight, and thats what we wanna do to most listeners out there, is make an impact ... My biggest suggestion is to try to put a few old school mixes with our new school trax on vinyl ... maybe it will make some happy, but the majority of fans email me and love the uptempo stuff ..

why were you dissappointed with synthia cd? I thought it had a mixture of old and new school. Its definately not progressive. I dont hear anything wrong with her album. Plus I did it in one week. But to each is own. As far as your theory of mixes go. I did 2 mega mix cds already. the first with tim spinnin schommer and me. it didnt do well at all. and i thought it was a great cd mix. it had edits, acapellas with different beats and everything. No chain store picked it up. the second one i released last year I did myself. which I also thought was good. it sold about 300 copies. the compilations did way better!!!! I dont do much singles at all. cause i always lose money with them. ever since the first single we released on artistik/ micmac. they made no money. Poze is good. but you gotta be kidding that the rest of the album doesnt interest you. I dont get it. what is it that you people want!!!!! I give up. Now I remember why this is my last compilation. there is no winning.

I love it!

I hope that this single is released on vinyl soon, and that we'll hear Johnny spinning this during mix shows! Nyasia, you need to do a visit to KTU and maybe then they can add the song! Perhaps it's time for a new Nyasia album? I'd be on line to buy it.

I don't mean to offend anyone, I love old school as much as the rest of you. I'll never part with my compilations, mix tapes, and albums by George Lamond, Coro, Sweet Sensation, and all the rest. But old school had it's time, and if freestyle is to comeback, we have to throw our full support behind new school. Let's be honest, do you think that hip hop fans are asking for the return of or requesting that radio play Run D.M.C., Whodini, Kurtis Blow, Fat Boys, L'trimm, Grandmaster Flash and all the other old school acts? Nope! They're supporting Nelly, Lil' Kim, OutKast, Eve and all the rest. It's time we do the same, and when we need a dose of old school, break out the "Greatest Beats" collection.

LOL, Willie I didn't mean just Poze, I was writing so fast I forgot what I was saying. What I was trying to say is that your 2k1 CD will probably be the bomb, cos I've heard of Poze, Wendy, Vocal Image, TKA, etc. I didn't mean just Poze. As far as the Synthia CD went, I said I was disappointed, that it wasn't all freestyle. Because you put an oldie & a latin track on it. Truthfully, the only reason I have the cd is because of her singles. So there is an interest to see what the rest sounds like. I'm just going to spell it in ENGLISH for everybody. Whether it is EastCoast, WestCoast, Ol' Skool, Nu-Style whatever anyone wants to call it, it really has nothing to do with the radio play. It has to do with the PROMOTIONS. I never see flats or posters of any Freestyle CD's or In-Stores,besides Lil Suzy. Take a look at the way hiphop or house does it. They have flats posters commercials its all good. Truthfully half of those rappers suck. No skills, but the hell if they ain't out in front of schools, posting flyers on telephone poles, etc. They're gittin their hustle on & gittin PAID! You need to hustle. Youse ain't about to git sumptin for nuttin. Youse got to go hit the streets, not you Willie or Randy personally, your street teams. That's the bottom line here. Forget about what I said about the mixxes.

i personally love that song da first time i heard it. listenin to it a 2nd time a lil closer, i hear some galaxy elements in it but overall it sounds more of freestyle mania type of style. 😀

Hey Chuck...I actually look forward to hearing the Old School Hip-Hop mixes on the radio since I couldn't care less about any of the new shit...

Freestyle on the other hand...85% of the new stuff isn't worth my time or money...
The Greatest Beats Collection is good, but it is definately incomplete!!!

I hear ya makeyadance but you gotta remember also those hiphop labels got $$$$. they either got major label backing or other forms of backing. LOL its hard enough to press my cds. I am not rich and have made very little money from freestyle. I did do some posters for mania 2 and that didnt help cause that was my worste selling album. I do wanna promote better,. I just need the financial backing of a major or anyone rich who loves freestyle. You will see a difference in the promotions i hope on Parade 2K1. Lets hope so... And thanks for the comments. I learn alot this way. I am my whole staff. I dont have anyone helping me. I produce the music. write songs, master the album, do that artwork, mail out cds, call the stores, deliver some cds to stores in ny, nj, ct., and mass. and sometimes even get a chance to sleep. LOL
I am doing the best I can. hopefully it will pay off.

Yo Willie I wasn't trying to come off hard, or hate on you bro. I wish you all the success! That goes for everyone in the Freestyle Industry. I hear you about the cash flow! Yo one more thing I can't find the page where we put our email addresses at. Email me your address, mine is MakeYaDance@box.com. I need to talk to you on the realz.

you cant really blame these 24 to 33 year olds for liking old skool. thats the way everyone is, if you ask yo moms if she likes the music of today shell say it aint the same as the old music from back then in 50 or 60's probably. so most of these people wont accept any of the new sound. their just hooked on that shit, theres like no point in convincing them otherwise, that was like their active years basically thats why they like the old stuff alot. but we gotta keep the new sound if we want to keep this the music alive. me personally, i didnt really like that nyasia song not because im with the old or anything but i felt it lacked some things. but otherwise so far to me the new stuff is pretty good. peace!
