I think Nu-image has set the bar in so many ways,I am a huge fan ..Yeah there may be a couple of songs that dont appeal to me and I may comment about them in a professional way never bashing because you cant bash artist like them who keep doing thier thing and 99% of the time its fireeeee..Shit I just picked up a cd from a pop artist and there were like 3 songs out of 13 that appeal to me.So it amazes how people comment saying oh well there is only one song that they think is hot or the album sounds the same or what ever the case may be.Even commercial top 40 cds have the same problems ...I think some are so hard on them becuase they see so much talent in them and know they can save this music or take it to a new level where its respected ..I could be wrong but I think you guys sing off the hook and your writing is so well thought out and filled with emotions wich puts me in a nother place when I listen,,So thank you for that ...I still have the album in my car and still in heavy rotation and I dont do that with most albums.I can only imagine how you guys perform live. it just makes me wonders how hot the stage show must be...Anyone lucky enough to live near the next nui show should check them out ..You guys have my respect and support ..

Thank you Melissa, you after reading this post I went over to grab a Nu Image allbum and when I look at it I see what many probably don't see.
I see 3 guys on the front cd cover that are far from satisfied with the work we put together.
If many of you only knew how many times Vic said I know your not gonna use that wack ass base line on the verse and made Pompeo change the base line. Or how many times Tyree said i'm not feeling that harmony or adlib I can do it better, just let the music role so i can find where I need to be. Or how many time Vic and Tyree said Tony G., come on now, you're not auditioning for this track this is a Nu Image track sing that shit like you own it.
Or the times I told Pompeo Pomp I was listening to the final mixes on theses tracks and we need to go back and remix the entire double album. Pompeo saying you must be kidding , are you out tof your mind Tony?
Guess what song by song each and everytime we went back into the studio Pompeo had already remixed or was working on remixing 1 of the tracks from the album.

When we were almost done with the album there was one song we recorded at the very begining that Vic wrote for his grand mother, who passed away.
I was determined to get that song on there, but the only trouble I had with that track was that I did not feel it should be a dance record. So I talked the guys into just singing it accapella and lets put it on like that, so we did , but Pompeo layed this down tempo beat on tarck with some strings and I said thats it. Lets do it like this. That song was "HOW DO I GO ON" but we will always know it as the "Grandma Song."

The very last song we recorded before mastering was to all the fans and peolple who have been so supportive, because you have no clue the amount of times we said , no they won't feel this, yes, they will like that, so thats why when you listen to thank you on the album, those lyrics were never written, we jus turned the light low in the studio and let the music play and those are the lyrics that came out. Thats why when you hear Tyrees verse the melody is different than my verse.
Thats the way Tyree felt, and it was deep.

"So many sleepless nights in the studio, but in hearts you were there to help us flow, you gave us the inspiration to go on, to become who we are, and we want to thank you"

and that my friends is what Nu Image was feeling when cutting that track.

Could we have made this album better, abosolutely, looking back I still would have called for some changes.
However I am very proud of this album we aimed to release this album and we did, and that I am extremly greatful for.

There is a major life line locked into this album and some will never get to appreciate that and some already have and continue to do so.

Thank you

Dayum this post is old lol but I figured I would pop in and put my two sens in for just a minute . I wont front I am really not into that much of the new school but thats because a lot of it hasnt appealed to me or I just havent heard a lot of the artist out there now there are an actual few that I would withuot a doubt listen to and do artist like Manny I have always supported his work he is a talented brother who jsut doesnt stop , Ashley girl is always grinding and you have to give her props for that, Synthia Figueroa I dont even have to say anything when it comes tho this woman her voice is off teh hook and all her songs are hott, Nu Image Since the first day I heard them I emaield Naaya there song and we were feeling the song before we even knew who it was singing it. These fellas except critisism they look for new ways to improve what they put out they take pride in what they do and its heartfelt they come to the fans and ask hey what do ya think, Nick Colon his voice is like buttta everything he has doen I have loved his writing is beautiful. These are artist I am feeling and have since day one of hearing them otehrs stuff I have heard and wasnt feelign not so much the songs sung but teh voices I felt had no real talent but thee are a bunch of artist I have yet to hear so I wotn say New skool suckswhen I havent heard a lot of it but I wnated to shaer what I have and how good it and they are. 🙂

So Angie, you're the one I have to thank for introducing Naya to Nu Image.
Naya always told me that "I'll Alway Love You" was sent to her and that it was that song that made her aware of Nu Image. I just want to say thanks and thanks for being so honest because it really helps us develope not only as artists but in the studio, a million thanks Angie.

YUP, SHE TURNED ME ON TO NU IMAGE AND SONIYA AND MARISOL!..LOL THREE GREAT ARTISTS. PARADISE HAS TURNED ME ON ONTO ALOT OF NEW SCHOOL AS WELL AS SOME OLD SCHOOL THAT I HAD NO IDEA EXISTED! OR MAYBE IT'S STILL NEW SCHOOL DPENDING ON WHEN IT WAS RELEASED RIGHT? NO SCHOOL OLD SCHOOL MISMA MIERDA IT'S ALL GOOD AND FROM THE INDIVIDUALS HEART.

No Doubt

I agree, bra. Like it's all flashy and self righteouss. Ain't no truth or justice in any of it. No dis respect to the artist who respect the music. I want to hear more raw, Inspirational stuff. Rapping is cool, but we been through the whole THUG, Pistol, gun bangin' shizz..... this is a new age and we need voices to be clear and uplifting. We hear" get in my car bit**" or " I got power and run the streets" and it sends mix messages to our youngies. That area has been overrided now this new skool need be more passionate....

As a member of the "new school" of up and coming artists, it is VERY disheartening to hear some of these opinions. I have struggled at times thinking that maybe I should just go another route and leave Freestyle behind. But it's my heart... it's what I grew up on and love! I can't do it.

I do somewhat understand the frustration. I've heard some stuff that's made me cringe. The artists AND producers were fresh back in the day and were willing to take a chance. I've been taking the slow route trying to find some producers who can incorporate fresh ideas into my lyrics and melodies. It's hard as hell.

We have "non-Freestyle listeners" who won't give us a chance. We have our "faithful fans" who won't allow growth in our genre. What do we do?

I know most of ya'll have never heard my stuff. I'm new to this game and trying to get it right. I have a LOT to learn and I look forward to it. I love the tracks I've done so far (with Elissa and Frank Vena in Toronto and Carlos Berrios in New York) but I have barely touched on my potential.

I've tried to upload samples on this site but for some reason, I can't make it work. I do have a website up. It's on geocities. My name is Miles Petty (or pettymiles). 🙂 I don't want to get in trouble and post the site specifically. (Be crafty and you can figure out the address... Jack G-if I violated something, LET ME KNOW!). I just need feedback from you all.

And what we NEW SCHOOL artists need from you most of all is an open mind. I want to help push our genre into a new age. We all have to work together though. That's got to be the first step.

Personally, I only have mad luv & respect for the nu-school artists that are locking it down and keeping freestyle alive . . .

There's one artist in particular that absolutely kills, and that's a dude named LUIE LOWE who sings "don't turn away" on BAD BOY JOE'S FREESTYLE MEGAMIX VOL. 3.

This track is just CrAZy . . . hard thumpin' beats, crazy as* edits, nice hook, strong vocals, great story line, old school production values (IE those sick guitar riffs)

Anybody know anything about this artist? or the producer who layed down the track JOSE "HITMAN" PANETO?

i started a post like this few weeks ago about the 80's. look man theres nothing like the 80's after the 80's. there cant be ever again cuase first youd have to have an enviroment and culture. that flat out dosnt exist anymore.

what people got to do Or the best that they can do with anything about the 80's.

Is really follow the NBA's lead.

and how they have managed to handle life after the 80's after jordan after larry bird after magic.

the nba is prob the most succesfull group of anything.

that i have sceen come out of the nostolgia of the 80's. in anything

cuase they dont try to fight it. they acknowldge those were the best of times.

and nothing can ever be created like it ever again.

but while were here take a look at what we got now. attitude.

the nba has been very succesfull at surviving after the 80's. with players that could nt

even be aloud to cut Jordans grass in his house. lol. during the 80's

and they have been very succesfull in the 90's. and now.

and freestyle has to do the same thing. acknowldge. theyll never be another 80's.

surrender flat out surrender any thought of competeing with it. or trying to surpass it.

admit those were the best of time period. theres nothing that can tuch freestyle in the 80's.

but in the mean time look at what we have now. and come out and support.

but the notion of trying to compete against the 80's? llllolll.,,.

thats a waiste of time thats where freestyle would go wrong big time.

i can tell you know with the most open heart and mind.

there is nothing these days nothing that can compare or compete with the 80's llloll.

the sooner anyone stops that the better off theyd be. in fact the road they should take

is asking for help from cynthia judy torres. appearing together with them etc,.

the only thing that ive sceen thats better today than the 80 's.

Is Direct deposit llllllollllll.,,.,.

thats the only oringal idea ive sceen 15 years after 1989. lllol,..

after that everone after 1989 is lost lets face it. ,..,lol,.

so id say ask for help

from the old school stars and soon enough.

youll create something that sticks. something that works and that sounds good for today and that can talka bout the feeling of things today?

but compete against the 80's people In many industries sports movies etc,.

have spent the last 15 years doing it. i think its pretty futile at this point.

even politicians comparing themselves to the old man Ronny regan lol.

Its a waiste of time you just look stupid doing it. just acknolwedge those were the best of times. you dont got what it takes.

and you need some help from back the day to create your own thing.

which is what the """"future""" is all about.

Not constantly looking back

ray !

and you might ask ? what conditions or enviroment. you had the greatest president in modern times running this joint. you had the greatest basketball player we ever saw playing. we had the communist on the run everywhere. we had the greatest pope in modern times ever. we had the two greatest pop singers ever ! singing. madonna and micheal jackson.

also dance music was just getting going so whatever you made had to be Had to be slamming naysia could tell you more about that im sure lol.

and you had a culture of freindship and coolness that just dosnt exist anymore.

and everyone didnt spend hours hideing behind this stupid Thing !!! hahah lol.

people got out and hung out. etc,.

so all those things contributed to enviroment of culture and creativity.

remember pressure comes from the top. when you had global national sports leaders like that ? jordan magic Bird. Reagan the pope madonna lol,.,.

what you think

at the bottom which is where freestyle was ,..your gonna have creativity,.. !!,..

pressure comes from the top all the way down !!,. lllolll,..,

there was to much pressure to preform create be active etc,.

even in the middle there was pressure,.,. you had pop singers everywhere putting out incredible hits. banna rama bangels ,.,. half pop half dance music,..,electric music too 80 to 84,.

the 80's was a special time where top to bottom we funtioned as one as a well oiled machine,.. llllllollll...,,.

where i use to make out with fine cuban girls in holiday inn miami beach,. in 87 on florida vacation

llloll..,

oh wait were talking music sorry,..,llol,..

everything functioned as a well oiled machine.., it just did,..,llol,.

and you just dont flat out have that today.

but i think one of the major reasons,.. seriously is becuase new skoool no where wether its rap or dance,..,

really asks for help from back in the day people,.,. and guidance,.., or anything,..

they just keep going no where for the last

15 years.,.,

with sex and violence,..,., Poor substitue for the greatness of the 80's llllloll,..,

first thing ya gotta do is drop sex and violence,..,

then ask for help from back in the day,..,.

then i think freestyle be on it was back.,..

same thing with rap,.., you dont see big daddy kane you dont see dmc cuase they

banished those guys..,,. and since then.,., they payed a price cuase rap aint fun no more.

and theres just alot of thing that people will just have to get over that will never be as

good as the 80's.

but to try to compete aginst it? thats a waiste of time.

what new artists got to do is seek help from it. ask why were you so great. talk about

those times find out? etc,.

then youd be on your way.

but dont do what rap does or did. which is not respect back in the day,.,. and to create

this stupidity we have today,.,.

freestyle today has to be a follow up to the 80's. a nice one,., and then slowly mix

in the messages of today,..,

( if there are any ) lol,..

anyway

thats my take

lol,.

Miles petty I think carlos mentioned you .Did you have a well known female artist( (dont want to give to much info just in case you wanted it to be a suprise.) sing background on one of your tracks..If not then maybe it was someone else .I will be working with him in the near future so its great we have somthing in common. As you know he is real down to earth and so talented..I cant wait to hear your material ..

Freestyle is really cool whether it be from the new or the old. There's a lot of work from these artists that they put to with all their might. All the success really amounts up to the exposure it must gain - from the fans, mainstream radio, the record labels, you name it, etc. ... In the 80s, it was prominent on a couple of areas like Cali, NY, and Florida, to name a few, thanks to what was mentioned regarding 'exposure.' ... I have a feeling it'll return with even more firepower in the years to come (or even right here, right now) if everyone continues to believe in this great music genre ... Kudos to artists like 'Lil Suzy, K7/TKA, Cynthia, Stevie B, George, and many more that have pioneered freestyle through the test of time - and to the new artists like Nina Sky, Missy Elliott, Xscape, etc. that have incorporated freestyle elements into their songs .. Overall, I think freestyle music is here to stay. Doesn't matter to me - old school, new school. The energy is still there. The fire is there. We can surely feel it 🙂
