There IS Talent in New Skool

I completely disagree that there is no talent in the new skool artists. Well, maybe not completely. I do think that there are more than a few new skool artists who aren't all THAT talented. But at least they're making new Freestyle music. That's at least a plus for me.

Talented artists you need to check out include Sharyn Maceren, Christina Marie, Synthia Figueroa, Elissa, Natalise and Julissa. Take Sharyn Maceren for example... she's a great singer, great songwriter, and her album features some incredible production from Glenn Gutierrez.

To be honest, a lot of our problems with the sound come from the production. A lot of new releases have horribly poor production and even worse vocal production. Even the best singer isn't going to sound good with crazy production. Part of it is the fact that labels don't have the backing financially to make quality recordings. Major record execs were putting up money back in the day for our music.

I think what you just may be missing is the old sound of Freestyle. Unfortunately, there isn't really a place any more for that sound. I guess that's not so unfortunate. It's just life. All genres of music must evolve and move on with the times. I think the Freestyle music of today is struggling to find its sound in 2004. I'm a singer/songwriter myself and completely understand the difficulty of this situation.

I love old skool and I love new skool. I really do believe that Freestyle is going to be able to make some kind of recovery in the near future. We, as fans, are just going to have to be able to adapt and find appreciation for new sounds in our genre. It's time for an update. And it's coming.

Big props to everyone who was in AC for the new skool show. We all did a great job!!!!!!
And as far as the topic of this thread I believe you have talent in old and new and then u have the ones who just shouldn't in both … but that's how it is in any genre.
IM not upset at anyone who doesn't like the new sound or music that's just how they feel all anyone can do is respect that.
I also agree with Willie a lot of the old songs were just as bad or even worse.

I been listening freestyle and going to shows since 89.......
I never liked freestyle up until the day I heard Forever Amor on the radio
and right there I became an instant fan........I got a lot of slack for being African American and loving freestyle and not listening to rap...I didnt let that stop me I have practically been to every freestyle show in the Tri-state Area ...I never stopped listening to freestyle even when hot 97 stopped playing it....Every piece of freestyle i could get my hands on i bought....Let me tell you hearing the songs on vinyl or cd didnt matter to me what mattered was hearing the artist perform live I have been disappointed by old and new skool artist alike..thinking wow theis person really cant sing live.....To me the only difference between old vs new is the year it was made .... Alot of old skool i hear now i am like damn i like that song....Alot of so claled legends you hear live and you be like who told this person they could sing......To me the new skool artists have to work 100 times harder then old skool....Most record labels back in the day were like ok you want to sing freestyle ok go the studio ...so the money was there for artists back then.....Most people toiday dont realize that most songs by new skool artists the cost of the project usually comes out their pocket.....Theres no money to be made singing freestyle anymore the artists of today do it purely out of the love of the music...So as long as the artisty continue doing what they are doing i will be here supporting the artists ....

You wanna know why freestyle is dying / Dead ?? Because the Radio Stations and Record stores Dont Play the new school! They keep Clinging on to the same Recycled Songs and Mixes Over and over and over and over again!

The 2nd thing thats killing freestyle music, is All This damn SEGRAGATION within The Freestyle Community. We need UNITY! If We had that, we'd still be going strong because we would all be networking togeather as a Whole.

I think its safe to say that most CF members Like Old school over New school, and thats Great. But If People dont start thinking "outside the box" This Music is gonna be History.

Sorry to say but Freestyle has taken a turn for the worse. I was listening to Bad Boy Joe's 3rd Compilation. The first disc was off the hook, dat shit is my joint, but the second disc was like:crap what the... I do think, however, Synthia Figueroa was actually pretty good but if she were in the hands of some one like K7, George LaMond, or Tony Moran she'd be the next Safire(who I'd love to marry if givin the chance).

Does any one agree? or am I just stuck in the 80's?

I disagree with you! There are alot of artists who can rock the music well and perform it well too. My question to you is, what are you doing about you opinion? I mean, are you in the studio making the sound you want? I'm not beefin w/you, but you are a DJ right? Then I'm sure you can add in if something is missing.

Sorry, but i have 2 agree with DJ PrimeCuts, the only new school artist i give props 2 is NEW IMAGE, NICK COLON & maybe another artist or 2, thats it, the rest sounds horrible & cheesy, except 4 that new joint , some dude singing with the bad of the heart samples in the background , that track is hot, has the same kinda appeal as the old school freestyle, which is by far the best, we don't have any legends in this game now like we use 2 back then , chris barbosa, carlos berrios, tony moran, those guys were a genius, todays producers are not just as talented, i'm sorry, no disrespect 2 any one here, DJ prime cuts don't worry bout hate mail, my man the truth is the truth & thats that! think those badboy cd's be selling like that if he had only new school artist on there, think again.

Savion, Not all the new artists are as great and yeah the producers that you mentioned are not to involved as far as producing the freestyle like back in the day, but times change and artists have to keep their career going. My advise is to go to the shows and enjoy the muisc because we all know that we listen for a reason not to sit and say that artists missed a note. The music is for us to dance and relate to, those artists are our voice and words for everyone to hear. If someone can do better, goahead no one's stopping you! But don't fuc it up for those who enjoy doing what their doing.

A dj I am and when I spin at clubs or mix on the radio, the old school gets the better response. BUT, its because your familiar with it and remember it when you were young and alot of it has meaning to points in your life. Especailly with freestyle!! And i can tell you what song reminds me of what girl and what was happing at the moment.a good night a bad fight a ugly break up. But now all of us are older and the songs don't mean the same and don't relate to our lives now. A crazy devorce or child custady battle.....BILLS!!!! And I am sure alot of us can give up a few names of some old school songs that sound like crap but are our favorite jams!!!! I agree with alot of you about the old school and the fact that it is still the shit to us but really be open to the new stuff. Jack and the rest of you who support and give new music a chance are the ones that help it grow and give the artists the drive to even make it.No i bashing here. Everyone has there right to say or think whatever but really keep in mind why stuff means so much to use and where we were/are when whatever music impacted us!! and you decided it to be good??or bad??

Old School Freestyle is dope , dont get me wrong!! I mean no ones trying to compeate or bash. All The classics that came from that era is what blew freestyle up no doubt! The OG's did there thing and some would consider the early material un touchable. But People , we need to be more open and listen to other flavors and styles. Theres too much Freestyle out there being neglected, and if peeps would give it half a chance, they would see freestyle is still alive, theres still a heart beat people , lets not be so quick to barry this motha fuka!

Still love my freestyle brothers and sisters no matter what , we may have our differences, but at the end of the day we at home listning to the same damn Music, and going to the same damn shows, 1 Love!!
