Goto "Lobby" and click on "Smash or Trash" on the left hand corner to listen and vote on 3 new Freestyle tracks.

Since its enception last summer, every single Smash/trash song we put up has been declared a "smash". LOL You fans are really biased huh ??? lol. Do some of you even listen to the song, or just hit "smash" ??? LOL. Its all good. Its just that I sometimes look at your votes as research for songs I should be playing on KTU. But how legit should i take it when every damn song is a smash. LOL

You can view the archives of past votes on the bottom of the voting page.

Johnny - I have "Trashed" many songs in the past. The thing is a lot of people are so enthusiastic about hearing new Freestyle that they don;t care how bad it sounds, they are willing to settle for less, so...they "Smash" it.

Anyways - I had to "Trash" Nyasia's song (reason's listed on a different post)...

I didn't bother checking out the other 2 songs. I have heard some of Apollo's stuff in the past and it was enough for me to know that I don't like them and I won't even bother checking out someone named "The Barcode Bros." since that name doesn't even sound Freestyle...My guess is that they are what many people call "Breakbeat/Electro"...This genre is not Freestyle. It is a high-speed, cheap imitation...

Then again, maybe I am wrong since I didn't give the song a listen...

Johnny, I thought you said that the Barcode Bros. song is a year old. Anyway, you know I that I think that song is a smizash. Very good production, very nice, original beats.

Tell Jack to make it so that we can inset comments in the Smash or Trash with our votes.

Rhoq, your limiting your definition of Freestyle. But things change. R&B lost it's New Jack Sound. Alternative lost it's New Wave sound. Freestyle lost it's Old School sound..... Maybe we should just change the name. I like your "Tripstyle" 😉

Jason, I honestly don't know exactly how old the song is. lol. I'm almost sure its from last year. Somebody from Canada emailed me about it, and I grabbed it off Napster..thats all i know about it ! LOL. Since not too many people have heard it regardless how old it is, I thought I'd put it up and act as though it is a new song. lol

In regards to putting another comment section up....i personally think all the comments should come on this board. Don't wanna be putting separate comment/post sections throughout the site. People are already confused with this system..saying its hard to navigate and find a certain message. But i'll definitely discuss it with Jack the Wack..thanks for the suggestion !

Rhoq..comon kid..at least give them a listen ! LOL. But i hear ya !

Hmm well as far as the 3 songs for this month go, I only smashed Nyasia's so...not all of us are biased 😛

Jason...There is no school like the old school!!!

I like some of the newer stuff, but that is becoming few & far between. As a matter of fact I just received a copy of the Silverback Records/SBP Project Compilation CD...Overall I thought the CD is pretty good considering it is all "Progressive" Freestyle. I wish it could have been done all in the Old School tradition but hey - I enjoyed it even though it isn't something I would typically listen to...

Hey Rhoq,

What specific progressive/planet rhoq songs do you like? You know that I and others value your opinion. I think Back 4 My Love (BKSS Mix), Never Gonna Let You Go, and You're The Only One have great writing and production.

Jason

OK - Here it goes...There are only a few progressive tracks that I really like:

1. BACK FOR LOVE - Paradigm feat. Stefanie Bennett (her best song, period)

2. SEDUCTIVE LOVE - Tora

3. WHOLE LOTTA LUV - Mila Marcil

4. A PLAYER'S EYES - Julissa

5. THERE'S NO LOVE - A Touch Of Passion (A.T.O.P.)

6. WHEN I FALL IN LOVE - Sarah

7. PLEASE DON'T GO - Mecca

8. ONE & ONE - Sharyn Maceryn

9. FANTASY BOY - Joleen

10. TAKE MY LOVE - Kromozone Project

11. MISSING YOU - Carrie Mae

That is about all..

i dont think "back for my love" was progressive. Its strictly freestyle to me. I loved it when i first heard it. And i dont like progressive freestyle much. I would have noticed that. LOL

I get pissed at some of those songs on that thing. I don't even bother voting sometimes. But some of them are cool but others i don't know about. And about "Back For My Love" I wasn't feeling it much but some people like it around here cause its more housey. Oh well go figure.

Hi Willie

It is true that "BACK FOR LOVE" wasn't 100% progressive in sound, it still contained some of the elements that make a record "Progressive" Freestyle.

To me (what I consider "Progressive") faster BPM's (128+), more electronic synth sounds/heavy electro sounding bass, house-style keyboards all make a record "Progressive". Now I know Freestyle can't remain Old School forever, but no matter how hard I try - I just can not get with today's progressive sounds...

I agree with rhoq on this. I'm not really into that new "progressive" stuff but i guess that they think if you listen to it enuff you'll like it.lol. Damn how times change from that old sound to that new tuff huh?

well the main reason i like "back for my love" was the hard drums. I am a drummer and I love hard drums. the melody is awesome too. It took me a long time to get used to the fast upbeat freestyle. I was just like u guys thinking damnnn this is too fast. who the hell can dance to this? I hated fast freestyle. I guess i got used to it. But dont worry people there is alot of old school elements in FREESTYLE PARADE 2K1. I think i have a slow song in there. about 127 BPM lol

Thanx for lowerin it by 1 Willie, we all appreciate it!lol. Well I guess that if you listen to the new beats long enuff u get used to them. It's just that most of my projects are usually from 120-125bpm. The fastest I got is 128 and its just cause I'm adding my elements to it like the drums and percussion. But its definitely not progressive.

Hey Johnny Budz,

Those are 3 solid tracks and all, but they're far from being new. I know that both apollo and barcode brothers are at least a year old each.

I'm surprised I didn't see any of Rockell's new songs on there...

I dunno if you've ever put this song up, or if you've ever even heard of the group, but check out the song the officer and elios - baby give me all your love . For all the people who are interested in old school beats, I think you'll like this concidering it's new (at least I think it's new... 🙂 )

Later, take it easy!

Hi Mongo -

Same here - when I sit down and throw some tracks together (Freestyle instrumentals for future reference and/or for fun) I usually keep it 120-125 BPM's with an Old School sound...But last night I was messing around and wanted to try my hand at making a Progressive type of track. The end result is 135 BPM's and overall it isn't bad considering I am not a big fan of that sound.

just cause its over 130 bpm doesnt mean its a progressive freestyle song. all my songs are about 130-135 on freestyle mania vol. 1 - 3. and i dont consider them progressive at all.

Willie...

Faster BPM's alone may not make a song "Progressive" but when combined with the other elements that I mentioned above, that would make it progressive to me...

well i do my songs atleast at 130 bpm, and i still use the same synths, bells, strings, hits and edits of the old school. so its a mix. which I rather like. old with the new.
