New Number 1 On The Frenzy

I believe the only other other freestyle radio show in the GTA was "planet freestyle" with Bernie B. on the old power 88.5.

The new Prima Donna track is sorta a hybrid track I would say, but I don't think I would classify it as a Freestyle track. Oh well, I like it nonetheless, but it sorta shouldn't be on the Frenzy, especially at #1.

eluder.. someone should find every trace of that song and destroy it... i can't stand it.. more i listen to it more i don't wanna listen to z103.5

I haven't listened to the frenzy for a bit over 1 year. is the show getting better or worse ?

I know the frenzy turned boring after 92.5's freestyle was no more.

damn now that was a REAL FREESTYLE SHOW.

Actually, it was on Power 88.5 and it was called "Club Freestyle" (😉 cool name, huh!) with Bernie B Rosenberg (of DMA magazine fame). And yes, unlike the Frenzy, they actually played REAL Freestyle!

tribe... my all time faves :sosad they're no more.. that's quite upsetting.. they made real freestyle

well... a girl from the group got a baby... and the guys went separate ways...

if you ask me the Frenzy could be alot better than it is, i once asked Monaco to play the song memories by Jacqui cenci an awsome track and he never played it, i think they should get someone new to do the Freestyle frenzy it's cool that he's keeping freestyle alive in Toronto, but i've heard songs that aren't even freestyle being played on the frenzy, now why would you play euro songs on a Freestyle show, i don't get it, there have been thousands of awsome freestyle songs made and Monaco doesn't play any of them, i just don't get it. if i was doing the frenzy it would be the best show around and real freestyle would be playing, not euro that sounds like freestyle.

toronto_gino... yeah i gotta agree... they play more non-freestyle songs...

they play EURO songs in a freestyle remix... and not the actualy FREESTYLE songs... I don't think they need anyone new to do that show, just that they could have more variety, try to expand a little over to USA as well, cos many artists are making music there and people in Toronto don't know anyone with the exception of Zoe, Elissa, Joee, Freda, Ceres, PrimaDonna (courtesy of DRC) and Tamara (for her only one freestyle song).... how about others? like say Nyasia, Nick Colon, Angel Mena, Sammy C, new TKA stuff? why isolate other freestyle from being known.. i mean if u got an hour on air, wouldn't u rather make the best out of it by introducing something new, not something constantly played on LTAs?

well just my thoughts anyways...

peace

your right 1sxychica he should play songs from other freestyle artists that people in Toronto don't know of if he plays there songs people will start knowing other freestyle singers and more people that use to listen to freestyle will start to listen to it again, the only way to make freestyle big is to pump the songs, and it's not gonna get big if the same songs are being played every week on the frenzy, honestly i'm a big huge freestyle fan, i've gone to the concerts in my days i've met a few Freestyle singers back when freestyle was happening in Toronto. i honestly don't listen to the frenzy cause nothing really good is played on it. play some Angel Mena, Nick Colon, Miguel reyes, Judy Torres, Sebastian, la Mour etc... and why is Plastique called Freestyle Fridays if they barely play freestyle there, they should just call it Euro fridays.

toronto gino... couldn't have said it better... ur so right!!

the only way to attract people is give them variety to choose from! this will benefit freestyle in total!

i dont listen to frenzy as much myself lately (esp. after WHY HAVEN'T I TOLD YOU gone to #1!!) cos of the above mentioned reasons...

and plastique.. jees.. it's like... 30 mins total of freestyle a night.. rest if euro, house and r&b... oh yeah.. it's freestyle alright 🙄

on TMR someone said Plastique is closing down? anyone got info on that?

You all make a great point however, we have to understand that major radio stations like the Evanov group and others cannot play product that is sub par, poor in production or instrumentation, poor vocals and is of no broadcast quality (the reason why freestyle faded away before its recent surge up here). A lot of the names you mentionned are not ready for this type of canadian radio airtime. Also, the Canadian reality in our freestyle sound is that it includes breakbeat, electro, energetic 2 step in addition to the traditional old school sound that is typical of of what is heard south of the border. Check out the relases from Brazil and to a limted extend, Germany and the new breaks sounds from Florida, that is the new evolution of our sound in Canada. There are new 16 year olds and music spending teens going gaga over prima Donna, sweet tb, zoe, Ceres and especially DJ X's remix of La bouche "in your life".

Having a branded international dance project like La bouche, a reknown dj like eric "DJ X" muniz have a freestyle mix on a major distirbution company like BMG is exactly what the frenzy and the new fanbase that we need is all about. Remixes of eurodance songs assimilate a new fan base quickly and insure continuity on a dancefloor during freestyle sets as the original euro singles are already familiar mega hits.

We are in 2003, let's enjoy our canadian freestyle reality and the remixes that become dancefloor bombs that make it to top40 radio. No other country in the world has charted Ceres and Sweet Tb in the top 40; that's a major accomplishment for the freestyle movement and Canada's new and growing fanbase of the sound.

bassbump... thanks for ur input...

however... it's funny you mentioned PrimaDonna as NOT a "product that is sub par, poor in production or instrumentation, poor vocals and is of no broadcast quality".. because truth is... without the DRC's remix... she would have NEVER been known and never played and never EVER made charts... it took another man's talent to make this a HIT... we all heard her live did we not? she's not presentable, not ready for production and yes POOR VOCALS!

If we really wanted to, we could have made some remixes of the artist we mentioned prior and make them SUPER HITS!! because at least those artists are real freestyle artists, although some are very new to the scene, they are no worse than some of the canadian artists... when I heard of sammy c, and heard his stuff I was really impressed...

but ok leave new artists... how about George Lamond or Cynthia? Why don't we ever hear that? Those are artists with some great hits!

My point still stands, we should expand on freestyle.. not euro songs poorly remixed into freestyle.

ciao

You make a good point about Cynthia and George; you should note that they were given ample spot in the freestyle limelight when they had their releases at the time (it's been over 4 years). "If I had the chance" and "lately" were played extensively and they were of broadcast quality with superb productions.

And for prima donna, of course we are referring to DRC's mix, otherwise, you are right, nobody would have heard of the name; essentially it was the freestyle megahit of the summer and it was a eurodance track remixed; keeping in tune with our new freestyle reality. And,Prima Donna is a dance project and not an artist in particular; producers placea singer to thetrack according to the track's profile; sometimes giving credit for their appearance and sometimes not; this is very common in the dance genre.

When there are good products, they are given the chance they deserve. The new fan base needs something familiar and continuity; we have it with breakbeat, electro and energetic 2 steps as represented by the latest trends. Play the new la bouche remix by DJ X loud and enjoy! Demand is huge and it should appear on many playlists within the week.

Thanks for the input Bassbump. I think that you both have valid points. I'm just glad Tony Monaco plays freestyle.
