Hey everyone...I heard that napster was now going to start charging for downloads...???? Does anyone know whats really going on? if so please tell me....thanks
The deal that Napster made with BMG is that they will devise a way to track what songs people are downloading and charge per song. They will then submit this information to the record compainies so they can get an idea of what songs are popular downloads...They are also thinking about initiating a $4.95 per month subscription fee to use Napster which may or may not include a certain number of "free" downloads before they start charging per download.
If Napster complies, BMG will use it's influence to persuade all of the companies suing Napster to drop their suits...
If Napster renegs on this tentative agreement, BMG will go forward with it's law suit and attempt to shut Napster down forever.
