Sarasota Fla.-A woman died after being bummeled in an amatuer boxing bout, and police opened an investagation into the fight. Stacy Young,30, suffered swelling and bleeding in the brain during Saturday night's Toughman bout. She was disconnectd from life support yesterday afternoon after being declared brain dead Monday night at Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, spokesman Bill Hevrvy said.

After this, this should be proff that this Toughman boxing needs to be banned.

I'm not really sure what Toughman boxing is. Can someone explain to me? Thanx...It is ashame someone had to die in order for that to be banned...whatever it is

Here is my question;

Do you think this Toughman boxing is very barbaric garbage and should this junk be banned altogether?

UFC is hardcore, but there some skill to that, and those guys are in shape.

This Toughman stuff is a bunch of nobody's off the street that come into the ring and fight for $50. Most of those people have no experince fighting and are in bad shape. These fights aren't sanctioned at all. But that's the deal with all these low morals of what people will watch. Everybody who see this junk on FX think it's cool, no ti is not, it's a terrible bloodspot that can get people killed. Through out it's 25 year history; a total of 90 people have been killed. And 10 have died within the past 10 months.

Bann this junk!!:mad

hey they tried to ban Ultimate Fighting, well they banned it from TV, and it is now Ilegal, but they still do it unfortuantely🙁 that Ultimate FIghting(bare knockled) was very hard to take sometimes.

I feel really bad for this womans family, all for $50? hell nah.

Damn! I feel bad for this woman's family and you're right...this should be banned but ummmm here's a thought...

Why do people that are not experienced in things like this try to do it? For $50.00 no less! WTF? :crap

Woman Dead After Amateur 'Toughman' Bout

By VICKIE CHACHERE

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Police are investigating an amateur boxing bout that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old woman who was pummeled in the fight.

``We are trying to determine the criminality of it,'' police spokesman Jay Frank said.

Stacy Young suffered swelling and bleeding in the brain during Saturday night's Toughman bout.

She was disconnected from life support Tuesday afternoon after being declared brain dead Monday night at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, hospital spokesman Bill Hervey said. Hospital representatives at one point Tuesday prematurely reported her death when she was still on life support.

Chuck Young said his wife, a mother of two, decided on the spur of the moment to compete after learning that the only woman who had signed up needed an opponent.

``It's supposed to be fun,'' said Chuck Young, who also got in the ring but who lasted only 29 seconds in his bout. ``They tell us nobody's going to get hurt. The worst that could happen was to get a broken nose.''

There were no cash prizes for the bouts in the publicly owned Robarts Arena, at the Sarasota County fairgrounds. In Florida, prize money for boxing is legal only in tightly regulated professional bouts.

At 240 pounds, Young outweighed her opponent by about 60 pounds. But in the first 30 seconds of the bout, family members knew it was an uneven match, said her sister Jodie Meyers.

Young nearly lasted all three rounds before falling the final time, Meyers said, adding that doctors told her any one of the many blows could have damaged Young's brain.

The Toughman contest was started by businessman and boxing promoter Art Dore in Michigan in 1979. Men and women pay a $50 entry fee and compete for cash or trophies.

At least three competitors have died in the past nine months, and some say the total number of deaths in the circuit's 24-year history is as high as nine. Several states have banned Toughman contests.

Dore said in a statement he was ``devastated'' by the death. He said that Toughman bouts have ``the best safety record among all forms of boxing,'' and that all safety precautions were taken before the event.

Joelle English, head of public relations for AdoreAble Promotions, the event's parent company, said participants sign waivers releasing promoters from liability, and their heart rate and blood pressure are checked by a doctor.

Except for The NFL, has people really lost that much interest in all the 4 major sports in favor of this Toughman junk!! I'd watch Fear factor before I would watch this Toughman junk!!

they may ban it but theres always a market for it..UFC..yes theses guys train hard and are skilled..still very barbaric..and in comparison to boxing ..these guys dont get paid much..as a matter of fact ..the majority of thier paycheck from a bout goes to medical expenses afterwards becuase most of these fighters dont have any medical insurance..its a shame this woman died..but it wont be the last..we live in a society where for entertainment we want to see people hurt each other in sport wether openly or secretly..and then acting all surprised and revolted when something like this happens..besides the ocasional death..you dont see coverage on tv about those who have been permanetly damaged from such events..I myself have fought in many full contact bouts for taekwon do..lucky enough to have never been seriously injured..but there are certain rules to minimize these dangers..its regulated..and overseen by top referees who when detecting a dangerous situation will stop the fight..on these other types of bouts there is no regulation and youre dealing with non trained people..the end result is this type of tragedy..sad but they will continue..because ratings or ticket sales supercede human life..thats fact

You are right Tazee;

It's just sad who people in society will think that anything is entertaining, even if the result is death. It shows sadly how gullible people are in our society today. You wonder why networks continue to pump out these reality Shows, they know people will watch, like this Toughman junk. It's sad(at least Survivor does not lead to death).

well most of these shows have the contradictory title of "reality".they are the exact oppiste.reality is boring.all of these shows are fantasy..labled reality..if "reality" where really entertaining..we would have shows of people working a real jobs that they hate.. trying to make rent..thats reality...what kind of ratings would that get? none becuase we want to forget about work when where off..some of us escape by watching these ridiculous shows..but coming back to fighting events its the same thing that draws racing fans to the track..they dont want to see the fast cars go round and round ..with a thousand sponsor emblems on thier cars..thats boring..they want to see a crash..where people may be hurt or even killed!! same thing with fighting events..reality is that from the days of the gladiators..people love watching someone getting hurt..getting thier ass kicked!!human nature..just as when there is a traffic accident..everyone has to slow down stop and take a look..terrible..but you have to see,,its so pathetic that even for a flat tire on a highway..everyone has to stop and look and think (better you then me) how many people would actually stop to help?.any type of death is entertainment..need any proof?..pick up any newspaper..and whats "entertaining"..is in the first few pages if not on the front page..who got killed today?..and how?..so again we can secretly say to ourselves (better you then me) thats reality!!..not a bunch of college students living in some off the hook apartment or house ..without paying rent,,,or a bunch of hot tens..competing with each other to marry a rich bachelor..

I know one guy who hasnt had many medical bills in the UFC....PHIL BARONI. When I knew this kid, he never took shit from anyone. if you stepped to him, he hit you HARD. Yes, I had a run in with PHIL BARONI once. That was way before he had a name with the UFC, but he a nasty reputation to go along with his name since high school.

What a shame... and if i read that correctly, she HAD TO PAY THE $50.00 to enter the contest and NO MONEY IS THE PRIZE if they win???

Read what that article that Krystal posted stated...

In Florida, prize money for boxing is legal only in tightly regulated professional bouts.

AND SHE WAS A MOTHER....

What a shame.
