Ok.......please solve an argument I'm having with JackG. Recently he asked if I knew the song "Lady" by Modjo. He says its got a "freestyle feel" to it. I told him it has absolutely no freestyle elements at all. What do you guys think ??

I am saying that when I listen to that song.. I get that FreeStyling feeling.. I am not saying its 'freestyle music'.

So what is it I don't understand ? You say its not freestyle but it gives you that "freestyle feeling" ?? Sure its a great song, and it gives you a good feeling, but a 'freestyle' feeling ? Do you get the 'freestyle feeling' when you listen to Frank Sinatra also ??? lol ( I know u Brooklyn people love Frank).

This song is NO WHERE near freestyle, nor does it have any 'feelings' of freestyle !! I still love ya though JackG !
 
i got the "freestyle feeling" with modjo ...i even threw a little part of the acapella chorus part in a freestyle mix cd i just finished!
 
Not even close to freestyle!!! Its pure disco house 100%..Not a bad song, its not my style, but it kinda grows on you after a while.Johnny, I'm surprised you haven't raised the point to the hypocrites at KTU who say they cant support new freestyle because it sounds 'too dated', well if new freestyle sounds so dated, perhaps they should consider the fact that songs like modjo and that two year old anastacia song could fit right in at Studio 54, a good decade before the advent of freestyle

...and while we're on the subject of that certain station:

Fun fact of the day: Deborah Cox- I Never Knew....54 plays this week on KTU....Been on the playlist for over a year now....Either the world stopped producing radio friendly dance music or some people at KTU just are sitting around with their thumbs up their asses!
 
Oh, I'm sorry, I've just been informed that 54 plays is inaccurate...That was last week's playlist....This week it has 70 plays!! Ironically, it also had 70 plays in September of 2000. Oh, what's their saying, something about 'where you always hear the freshest beats first'....riiiiiiiiiiiiight

I AGREE...it has a discoy-house style...and it does grow on you, its a cool song. If you get that freestyle feelin' its cuz you got "freestyle" in your soul!...lol...and you would one of those...how do u say...."freestyle head"...lol
 
Nowhere near being Freestyle. But a beautiful disco house feeling. That song is dope just not Freestyle. Jack stick to web designing & let Johnny keep throwing down. lol

But the Modjo sound is not dated. Its disco house, which isn't dated. If you think Modjo is a dated sound, then you must think everything that David Morales plays is dated.

Instead of continually bashing ktu here, you had the oppurtunity to bash one of the leaders of KTU a few weeks ago in person at the dj.. umm umm... "Battle"..how come you didn't speak to him then? Many, many points you make are valid, however some of them either aren't accurate or you don't have the understanding of radio. I know, we won't get into this again, but remember, 70 plays a week for the most played song on a station isn't that high. There are stations that play a song 100 times a week. Also, like i said before, Anastacia was re-released by the record company because of all its success in Europe. Believe it or not, Deborah Cox is only reaching its peak now. Its only starting to go national now. Give credit to a song being so powerful that it can be on a playlist for a year. Its one of the most requested songs everyday.


And I'll ask again..what new freestyle songs should ktu be playing right now ?!?!???? Everybody kills ktu for not playing new freestyle, yet...nobody can name new songs that would honestly work on ktu right now. I have the oppurtunity to play 1 hours worth of new Freestyle on Sunday nights, and i can't even find a HALF hours worth.

It is Disco house. There is nothing freestyle about this song. It is a great song but is not freestyle at all. It is like saying Turn the beat around is freestyle.

As for Jeff Z, I have enough tact to know not to go up to a guy I just met and basically tell him "you suck at your job", which I'm not saying he does, but that's what I would be inferring. And I honestly don't think KTU sucks nor do I think the people that work for KTU are doing a bad job, quite the contrary, I merely think the whole sound of the station has become misdirected from what it should be (and used to be) as 'the beat of NY'. But hey, everyone has their opinions, for example, like you and the DJ.. umm umm "Battle". But that doesn't mean your going to go out of your way to tell everyone who organized it "hey I thought it sucked, what were you thinking?!" Johnny, all you gotta worry about is Sunday nights, and as far as that goes, I have no complaints...Keep up the good work!
 
when i hear disco house tracks like "lady" by modjo or "one more time" by daft punk i get a great feeling, not a freestyle one though... but still those songs and that sound are slammin'!

yo johnny one new school freestyle song that would fit perfect on ktu is the new ROCKELL "what you did to me",
any chance on them playing that record?

It's NOT freestyle.

BUT

When I listen to freestyle music.. I feel- hmmmmm what's the word... Loose.. I feel like unbuttoning a couple of buttons on my shirt and just Chill hang loose be around good people. maybe cruise with the top down.. etc.

Thats the same feeling I get with this MoJo song.

LADY gave me the same feeling as STARDUST did 2 years ago with MUSIC SOUNDS BETTER WITH YOU....NOT EVEN CLOSE TO FREESTYLE..DISCO/HOUSE SOUND that is very well received...please guys EVERYTHING is NOT FREESTYLE..I LOVE FREESTYLE as much as the next but come on..some TWIT said the new Destiny Child song SURVIVOR was FREESTYLE too..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
