I'm really thinking about putting together a new CD” MKG & FRIENDS - "FREESTYLE U.N.I.T.Y. 2006" (1 or 2 CD SET).... but with new productions and other artist (new artist or popular) producers & Remixers. I'm looking more to promote new and upcoming artist and not looking to make a profit. Why not make this work, take it on the road.. Do promotional shows at large events like 'Ochard Beach" and other outside big events.. Out of NY shows.. I'm talking about all artist on the CD, not only 2 or 3.. it should be an equal thing for everyone. I feel this will be a great showcase for artist to show what they have. This is something I always wanted to do since the early days and I would like to really do it know to show that this is great music just need more attention and really serious support.. Maybe like Speddy knocking on everyone's door (Stations) and doing his WEPAAAAAA, “FREESTYLE U.N.I.T.Y”. is here PAPI..

What do I get out of it.. My love for music. Like I have told many and also my wife and family could back me up on this.. I'm not out for the money or fame. If all my stuff is wack, i could walk away and say, hey I had my 5 minutes of fame and it was the best 5 minutes of my life..LMAO.............)c’mon no dirty minds here) I want to showcase, bring this music we once went crazy for and everywhere you went what did you hear in cars passing by pumping their systems????............Latin Hip Hop/Freestyle.. And years later you still hear it. i just heard Tear Shed today blasting from a jeep.. The song is 16 years old..

We really need to do something to get this U.N.I.T.Y going.. I'm talking about taking this nationwide (laugh, hahah.. did you know that I have received many emails from Germany, France, Greece and other country’s asking why American are not doing Freestyle and i told them it's not the artist, producers or even the small labels that are wanting to market their artist, it the RADIO, CLUB and the fact the unity is not tight like other music}

This was an idea that hit me about 2 hours ago...3:30AM.. I always did (still do) get my ideas late night (graveyard shift)..

Please, I'm really open to comments and suggestions.. Just please, no bashing as I want this to be POSITIVE.. It's more like a promotional CD to showcase talent. If you are an artist, Producer, Engineer, Remixer or keyboard player / guitar player, this is something for you to consider. What do you have to lose, NOTHING.. What good could come from this "Possible hit records, new label, work with producer you thought you would never get to work with and maybe the next superstar)

I not looking to sign any artist to any contracts.. There is not commitment.. If we get a call on a particular artist(S) from a establish label with promotional funding, we will work this out with the artist and label which at that time we will have some type of beneficial relationship with the new venture. Take a chance or sit home and say, “I will be a star on day,” “I will do a little show here and there and my friends will help me spread the work that I could sing”.. You have a better chance hitting the lotto… I’m not trying to diss but just making a point that it will not look for you..

I really encourage ALL (Pro, Semi-Pro and newbies) to take vocal lessons.. If you are serious about music, you have to make an effort (right Tony G).. He know what I mean as he's been there...........I would like to open my mind to many styles of Latin dance music, let it be freestyle, Reggaeton, Salsa, Merengue, Latin pop, Latin ballads.. (that is why I'm thinking of a 2 CD promo)

I'm not trying to copy of American Idol cause i want to do shows with all the artist on the CD and even having them singing together as a group during the end of the show.. We can send to all stations, DJ's and other marketing and promoting groups as a promo (of cause) and sell CD's on the web, shows and get a demand from distributors who are afraid to carry our type of music, so let's create the buzz and then the distributors will start knocking on the doors, "hey my friend, long time no hear".. I've been there and done that.. When you are hot, the respect is off the hook but when you are like a 'Coqui" (don't think I spelled it right but is the frog from PR), people are like "You look familiar" I know many will say.. “Well I tried something like this but it didn’t work”, well, having the right people that have to power to make shit happen will make it happen. I’m sure I will get positive postings from this and either way I will move forward.. Jump on the band wagon or just watch and see what happens on CF when this takes off.

part 2 of my book!!!

Think about this.. I'm going full force with this. I would like to hear ideas and what can we do to make our culture shine and appreciate good music. Again, this is not an American idol but someone will have to be the Simon type (not as cocky) but enough to say, practice and try again in a few years.. If you are david Hung then I will make the statement..LMAO………... I'm not the type to tell anyone 'You can't sing" you probably can but without the proper training, you will be all over the place (off key, sharp, out of tune and all that).. if you have a good tone, it could be worked with training..
A word of wisdom, DO NOT and try to sound like another artist as that is a strike against you.. You have to be you..
I hope this is something that sounds positive to everyone and voice your opinion (being nice as this is for a us to unite, has nothing to do with sell out or whatever people may think.. If you own a label, or artist.. You know what a freestyle release does now I sale?… barely covers the pressing of the product itself but many think labels and producers make crazy loot (well some labels)…not so, I have done tracks that are popular and people are like ,Yo, you made some change on it, well I did not cause of the recording budget (funds to record the project, studio and many extras including DUNKIN DONUTS.. I’m out

Later,
MKG

MKG, here is my take on this.
In 2003 Diamond Boy Luis called me up and asked if I would be interested in a run of summer shows together Truvoices and Nu Image ,I thought it would be a good idea.
At the time we were both working with on finishing our first albums and this we thought would be a great promotional tool.
At that time we were also colaborating with Mickey Garcia, who at the time was working with a young female artist named Stephanie Pinedo.
We all came together and decided that it would be a good idea to showcase all 3 artists on a summer mini tour and also take 2 tracks from each artists and put it on cd to sell on the tour. We also sold T shirts and Posters. We even had a MICMAC 360 TOUR WEBSITE.
The tour repeated it self the following year with Nu Image. EXO, Danielle Simone, and the Rios Sisters. This time there was no posters ,no website , and no cd's, except for Nu Image. We had just released our double cd album. We did incredible in cd and t shirt sales. Most of these people who purchased our music and merchandise never heard of Nu Image, EXO, Danielle, etc. but they saw the show heard the music and made the purchse on impuse.

Here I come to my point. I wish we would have taken more time planning out the tour , because in my opinion it would have benifited us a lot more. If you plan to do this MKG I think, no I know you have to have a plan set in place and everyone invlove in putting this together has to be on the same page.

The first thing you need to know is once you have your project together is how will we promote it? Then once you have the how, you need to know where will we promote it? then once you have the where, you need to know when will we promote it?

Step 2. how will we determine the artists/producer selection for this cd project?
Who will determine what should go on this cd?
You have to put together the BEST possible PRODUCT you can deliver.
Do not rush the project, if there is lack of quality material, do not think well, I'll take these 3 tracks i could stick in here to make the cd complete, HELL NO thats A MAJOR No No.

Make sure that if you're feeling a track but the sound quality is lacking but you would still like to put the track on, that you get it to sound just as good quality wise as all the others on that cd, or it will be lost.

GET SPONSORS, but have all your project plans and presentation for the project READY TO PRESENT.
There are many bunisess and being that you have your own retail business MKG, there is your connection. Get surrounding businesses to sponsor this project. If you get a spot for a show get the resturant owner to get you the sponsorship for the Tour posters and work it out so you get the restuarant a spot to sell food at the event. Get media involved in any way possible. Think ahead how to get hotels and car rental establishments involved, because you are going to need them.

All artists involved in the project, not only have to have the music part together, but the presentation of that music together. Your stage show needs to be tight.
The entire presentation of this project needs to be solid. If you wouldn't want to see or buy it then chances are no one else will want to either.

If you get the right team together for every aspect of your idea, it could work.
If one artists from this project gets attention from radio and can be added to rotation, you just did a hell of a job.

BOOK PART III (PS, I write as I think and don’t go back to correct any grammar or misspelled words as it kills my thoughts.. You all know what I mean…………)

MKG - We need to set up a group of people (artist, producer, label owner and a hard core fan who is open minded) to make the right & honest decision and no "I'm gonna hook up my boy Juan Pepe Loco" LOL.. It has to be a board of U.N.I.T.Y. members that will pick and all members will need to AGREE, like a jury.. if one can't agree, we go back and say what can be done to make us all agree (a remix, another song as the one the artist sang did not fit the artist??) I think if we have a board of about 4-6 people and 5 say "This artist should go on" We, the majority have chosen🙂 I want to make this fair as possible to everyone. Even if I did a track and it was not good enough to make it on the CD, well I have to respect the other members. I'm not allowed to judge my production.. I feel this is fair to everyone. We weed out the tracks that will not make it ON THIS CD but we are opened for the next. We are not here to judge anyone or limit their dream but like I said, a really good vocal coach will tell you if you could really sing or need major training or they might say, "you are ready to do your thang". We just hope the vocal coach is very honest and not trying to make a buck on a dead horse.. i will be a good idea for us to look into vocal coaches in selected city's that will be very honest with the artist and also with us. Tis will be another major task. This will not happen overnight and we will not rush into it. That is why I called it 2006.. There is no way we can put this project with really great artist together in 3,5,7 months. We need to take out time, give the artist the chance to improve within this time frame. If we hear a track that is SLAMMIN' now and it's ready to be taken to the mainstream, a solo single before going on the promotional CD will be something for the board to consider as we don't want the artist to be held up if the single is ready.. Or maybe we can use another track for this artist for the promotional CD while they are climbing on the charts with the 1st single..

Sounds like a great idea..Obviously your very much in the know on how the idustry works and I am sure you know that in some ways you cant just say your not in it for the money,..I mean isnt that what a recording artist and producer is gearing towards,I mean if you are making sacrifcies like all artist make when producing or in the studio all night neglecting family and loved ones wouldnt you at least want to provide for yourself and your family ...Isnt that the main goal..I mean of course artist /producers are obviosuly in the music inudustry because its their passion but being realistic you have to try to make hit records and records that will make money and top 40 dance/pop.If you want to be a professional respected artist with longevity... That saying well at least "I had my 5 mins of fame" really bothered me,.Why because if your an artist/producer that saying shouldnt even enter you thought process because that is sure to end in a downfall..Also when you wrote when your hot you get respect and when your not your a nobody that is such a non important thing in someone mind frame when trying to put a album together,In any industry rap/pop/dance/what ever you see artist all the time saying they dont get the respect or recognition but they are still selling hit records and keep going. You can expect to one day be a a artist on a compilation and be the center of attention because you will just disappoint yourself and the hard work you put in .Because once you get the attention then bamm in comes the next sensation then your left in the cold.if your a true artist you will move on and keep going but dont ever do it for the 5 mins of fame or just because its convienent ...The product will suffer in the end and so will all efforts and sacrafices will be in vein...I hope you dont take this as a negative post.I think your a great producer and i too have mkg and friends still in my collection and I jam too it,...I am sure you know what your doing and If thought out this could sure be something us fans could look forward too..I wish you the best and all artist who are part of it...

PART IV OF MY BOOK..LMAO.. MY FINGERS ARE HURTING FRON TYPING ON MY LAPTOP..

There are so many things here we need to iron out and really put our heads together and come up with ideas that will work.. TONY G, like always man, you come up with great ideas.. I like the thing about sponsors which will work and will help us and in return help the sponsors. So I call you on you to be on the board man. We really need to pick positive peeps that will have ideas like Tony and me. A few more peeps with heavy ideas can really make this PROJECT work..

We will respect and always consider opinions from everyone even if we don't agree with it, we will bring it to the table... I will love to select another 3 to be part of THE U.N.I.T.Y. project... This is for us all and not for the 5 or 6 that are chosen. We need to voice our opinion. This will NOT be a label promotion like (METROSTARR, or MKG ENTERTAINMENT) which are both my corporations but a project to take this to main stream and be heard.. I have much repect for groups that take what they believe to the main stream (like the gay community) and they made a big impact that even politicians HAD TO get involved.. I tip my hat of to them. They also made an awareness that is OK to be gay and many are coming out the closet. My wife has a friend who her gay son told here after 19 years that he is gay. He was supported by most of his family and friends but had an issue with a family member that plays a very important role in his life.. I gave him a copy of the song "I Was Born This Way; by Carl Bean.. This record was a BIG success back in the Garage and Studio 54 days. I'm not GAY, I'm 100% straight but have repect for the gay community. The point I'm trying to make is, when you get together and VOICE and WORK towards what you believe, shit will happen!!!!!!!!! if not, you will look back 30 years and say I should of, would of but did nothing.. Life is short and I can't believe that 16 years went by since my first production, I have a wonderful family.. My kids are 13, 10, 6 and 3 WOW, how times fly’s.. My point again is, time is going by and we are sitting around waiting for shit to happen and IT WILL NOT unless we MAKE IT HAPPEN. I not a motivated speaker but do have strong management and sales skills and have turned work related situations to success. (not music related at all but a computer engineer who self taught myself, like I did with music and I became a team leader for the American red Cross Y2K project which was an 6 month project. I started as a computer tech and went to become a computer egineer within months. That is why I was out of the music scene for many years. I had a family to support and the music industry was taking a turn for the worse. I'm not a "Has Been".. I still have the talent and feel it's stronger as i'm older and wiser.. I think I made my point here and will love to here more for CF members. You can email me direct ay mkgent@optonline or PM.. Post on the board and voice your opinion as i will love to hear it. I'm very open minded (to a point, LOL)

Love and Music
MKG

PS: This will not be a everyday full time thing as we are all working on projects but something we all will put in from our spare time. We have a good time frame to put this together as we are not rushing this project..
That said, I know many have heard similiar ideas but I'm a serious person and I;m tired of sitting around and hearing "Daddy Yankee" and many others blowing up..(ehich I give props to cause he is the shit but there is no much talent out there, we waste it)

I accept your invitation to be part of this project, and I am willing to help in anyway that I can. As soon as the rest of the board for this project is formed,
lets get a conference call going and let the brain storming begin.

Melissa,

I totally respect your opinion and you made valid points. I have been in the music industry since I was 16 years old working in a club 2 nights per week. I worked in clubs for about 11 years straight. I was doing production but still kept spinning as a DJ to make a living while I followed my dream. It also helped me out cause you know what the people want to hear when you are spinning..
There are probably millions that have their heart on the music industry. Out of those millions, how many will make it?? That is why I say we are not in it for the money because we may not see a dime. What I'm trying to say in a nice way, no one should quit their day job because they think they could make it. I'm not the one to damper anyone's dream but it's part of this industry. There is so much talent out there that will never see a music contract. I've worked with many talented people who made nothing, ZERO.. Do you know how many records you need to sell before you see a dime from a label?? They will recoup everything from phone calls, business dinners, coffee and so on (I'm not trying to be a smart ass but I have been on the other side of the fence) when i received my royalties statement, i was like "THIS IS BULLSHIT" I did all the work and the artist did too and we were still in the negative which will come out of our next project. The money is in SHOWS, hands down on that one. But how many artists do pay shows?? You can count them. I will never leave my other trades because I will be a senior citizen with no 401K, SS, no medical but just 12'' hanging on my wall. Sure, we would all love to make a career out of music and make money but it's not a sure thing and the odds are against us. I do think positive as I just invested a great amount of money on my new studio that came from savings I had from my other career. I hate when artist say "So & SO producer jerked me". it's so lame cause the producer took money out of his pocket,
and 9 and of 10 never recoupe the production money and wasted his time. This is the MUSIC INDUSTRY and is WORSE than ever (all styles of music).. Sales are down for all music.. But if your heart is in it, I say go for it and try.. If you are in it for the $$, I would say this career is not for you. That is how the industry is.

Melissa - CONT. PART II

"In Paradise" was a very big record.. Sold over 100,000 copies.. They had an album titled "Hand Off" which also sold big (well bif for freestyle).. They were in the negative!!! I was the road manager and worked with them until Hot 97 dropped freestyle and their cusrrent hit at the time "To be In Your Arms" and show slowly went sour until they were probably doing 1 show per month compare to 6-10 shows per week (sometimes 3 in one night) we went to all major cities. So the girls did make some money in shows but it was only for a short time. They always had day jobs and worked very hard to make it in the industry but again, the industry let them down (radio and others)

Hope I made a valid point. I will never say, "Hey, you will never make it.. You will never make money" as I don't really know. You could be the one out of millions that will make it like M. Carey, Madonna and so on but read about how they struggled and just got lucky...et and 9 and of 10 never recouped the money and wasted his time. This is the MUSIC INDUSTRY and is WORSE than ever (all styles of music).. Sales are down for all music.. But if your heart is in it, I say go for it and try..
