Hey Bassbump,

Yeah I know what u mean about it being 2002. But that wasnt really what I was saying. I dont really care to hear the old stuff too much anymore..Ive heard them all a milliion and one times. What I meant was that those songs you listed arent the new sound of freestyle but a different genre in dance music ..thats all. Ive been listening to this station and enjoying it either way. I wish KTU was more like any of the party stations they got down there in Florida.

quadosh: I understand what you are saying. But here in Canada, the songs I listed are the new sound of freestyle. Mostly breakbeats, electro and planet rock is what plays in freestyle here, with branded atistst and major label pressings (like gigi, diana fox, groove armada, whigfield, fiori, dj encore, fragma, etc.). Also, this is how I discovered freestyle with this newer sound, especially Sonique. And the recent freestyle compilation releases in Canada promote it that way including Gigi D'Agostino, Rank1, Astroline,Whigfield, underdog project, etc. Hopefully you understand where I was coming from and my meaning of freestyle on party 93.1, cause if this station was in Canada, it truly is a 100% dance and freestyle station hehe. Thanks quad.

cause it is. and you are right, you should quickly be able to tell if a song is freestyle or not; this includes newer breakbeat and electro queues. We are now part of a global community; breakbeat, planet rock, 2 step and electro are part of the freestyle repertoire here in Canada and other countries like Germany and Brazil amongst others.

Diversity is the key here and it is great that you respect the fact that people like myself outside of the USA are here to share and appreciate what the music has to offer, the way it sounds to our ears and is promoted to us on radio and in the mainstream with branded artists and major label pressings. In my city, people had no idea what freestyle was until the radio starting tagging Sonique "it feels so good", Rockell "In a dream" and Larissa "I do both Jay and Jane" on heavy rotation; 3 great examples of the sound's diversity here. Or again, the massive tracks by Astroline "Close my eyes", Qu-zar "in my eyes" and Rank 1 "true love never dies" in the same line as Fiori and DJ Encore today, that never got any play in the US. To many of us, those are mainstream freestyle hits in the breakbeat genre even though to you, it is just another sound in dance music. and that's fine, that's what diversity is all about.

Check out the numerous Canadian freestyle compilations, pressed on major labels like the freestyle heaven series on SPG Music or Freestyle Frenzy vol. 5 on EMI Canada that promote our freestyle sound, like this one:
