We have lost Party 93.1 to :sosadRock 93...What the hell is wrong with Cox Radio....to them I wish :barf:crap

The sort-of-good news is that the new Mega 94.9 is playing some freestyle and old dance, but not enough and you have to take the reggeton and rap in between.

Party 93.1 switches to rock format
BY CHRISTINA HOAG

South Florida's dance music station Party 93 is now a rock and roller. The station abruptly switched formats late Monday and is now Rock 93.

The move comes three days after Clear Channel flipped its progressive rock station WZTA 94.9 FM to Hispanic urban on Friday, leaving fans of new rock groups such as Pearl Jam and Hoobastank in the lurch.

''Cox decided there is room for a second rocker,'' said Tom Taylor, editor of Inside Radio/M Street. ``The chessboard just changed again.''

The format change is the second for 93.1 FM. For years, until January 2002, it was classical station WTMI. Cox Radio then changed the call letters and format to WPYM and rhythmic dance music, which has had mediocre success as a radio format across the country.

Faced with less than stellar ratings and an opportunity to sweep up WZTA's fan base, Cox decided to make the switch before those listeners found new niches in stations such as Clear Channel's WBGG-FM 105.9, classic rock, or WHYI-FM 100.7, contemporary.

THe switch is also the third this year in South Florida's competitive radio market. Last month, WKAT-AM 1360 turned from classical into conservative news/talk.

the other day i was listening to 93.1 and it was jamming.i loged off for a couple hours and came back on and it was matallica on the radio.it blew my mind.just another blow for freestyle, but the good news is there is another station called miami mixx.it is packed with freestyle.better than 93.1. it plays alot of freestyle that wasn.t on the radio.the only way to hear them was tape or c.d

93.1 was horrible anyway, good thing we still have salsa 98.3 lunch mix. too bad ramon hernandez is no longer there. "the chief" was the bomb. now we have to deal with dj rene, he's ok but no one comes close to ramon. right little laz? =)

The way I see it, if you want your Freestyle, ...just play your own CD's. lol.

Honestly, I love all these stations, & that they play a bit of everything, but if you want ur Freestyle fix all day, then just pop in one of ur mixes/albums, & u should be all set. lol.
(At least that's what I do, & never have to worry about what station is playing what & when). 🙂

Nice way of thinking ^ but having a radio station representing Freestyle music was the main concern. I agree, 93.1 wasn't all that. Most of the time they would play Trance or Techno and on their last days they burned that Ciara's 1, 2 Step remix like crazy! still...it was a Freestyle station that now no longer exists. Not good

Party 93.1 has no more website, now there is no sign of them and they are completely gone. I liked the live broadcasts from Voodoo Lounge and other clubs. That was one of the best things about the station. Unfortunately, the freestyle and retro live broadcasts from clubs did not last. They tried it numerous of times but seem to only last around two weeks. Not many people support old school when it comes to the club scene.

Marky G is trying to find a new home, But there are no radio stations that will support the gay community as of now. The one station that would be the closest would be Power 96, if they would lean towards dance, freestyle, retro and disco again, like they did 4 years ago. Party 93.1 is the reason why they went to hip hop and R&B a 100%. It does not look like they are going to go back. There morning show Tyrone, Mindy and Boo show had gay personalities years ago.

The stations that play freestyle, are the Latin format stations. I don't speak Spanish so I don't listen to those stations. Living in West Palm Beach, 98.3 can barely be reached due to them having less than 5000 watts of broadcasting power. I use to have a home radio station, first it was Power 96 from 1990 to 2002, than Party 93.1 from 2002 to 2005, when they came along. Now I have none. I might every once and a while listen to DJ Rene's lunch mix on 98.3 that I can barley get. Once the mix is done, radio goes off. DJ Rene was much better when he was with Power 96.

As of now, in South Florida, the dance music scene on the airwaves, is very quiet. And those cheap or pirate radio stations that you can only get a few miles away from, don't count, if there is any. Hopefully something will come soon, but it does not look good....

If it's not on the airwaves I don't want to hear it. I want a radio station to listen to in the car....

But Miami Mixx is for sure on my next list 😀 I can do some good freestyle mixes too 🙂

I refuse to listen to it online. If I can't hear it in the car, park, beach or anywhere else, too me, it's not a real radio station if it's not on the dial. I heard their bandwith is real crappy. If I were to listen to the radio online, it would not be party 93.1. I don't go online to listen to the radio, thats why I have a radio and a Cd player. Now I just listen to Cds. I shouldn't have to be at the computer to listen to a station.......

Yeah I know what you mean I heard about that too about there bandwith, but the thing is even though its online you still get to hear the music playing all the time and usually I have a radio and a cd player to listen to but sometimes I usally dont listen to it that much so since im online most of the time thats where I listen to if I get bored :d
