I just wanted to get your memories of Hialeah Springfest. I could never go goes moms wouldn't let me out of the house at that age.

What are your favorite concerts of all time here in Miami??

PS Does anyone remember "Be with you tonight" by Power Patrol??
I'm trying to find it and I can't. I think that song has ties to Demus Martinez but I'm not sure.

Thanks y'all!!!!!

drenched in drakkar..
packed ina lowrider monte carlo with the back seat puled down, so you can expose the speakrs. (trying not to sit up on them).

everyone cuising the street with bass and freestyle bumping at everyconer. "give the dj a break" to joyce sims "all and all" filling up the atmosphere.

you got you edwins on (red, white, lime green, pink, hot red, acid wash).they had to be the edwins with the original yellow tag with red letters. the other tag and cavaricciz came later after that. your bks (british knites) and addidas.taxi shirt or iou sweater.

standing around the front of the stage. hieleah girl with her attitude, cubanaza...... talking all loud. smiling and flirting around. name plates, ropes and figaro chains shining. guys withtheir tejas and girls with the huge ass bangs and combed up 5 inches.

spanglish speaking princess.

everyone walking around like gang memebers or hanging with their crews.

this was your typical, sping fest or cop aid.

freestyle artist get on stage, and everyone was in a frenzy.

arms up high and everybody atthe same time moving from side to side yeling "GO ahed! Go ahead! Go Ahead!
eo, ee eo! say e oh, e e e oh!.
the roof, the roof, the roof is on fire....we dont need no water .let the xxxxxxx burn. burn mutha xxxx BURN!!

freestyle artist shining bright. midway down the line up...you know a fight had to break out in tha crowd. (always did).

then you saw soemone like naysia wearing a hot pink corsete.
tka with thier suites. trenier, jill, etc.

damn!!!

and yes,
dimus martinez was involved with that record and many others.

Damn man!
Those days make me cry..lol
I'm young! back then i was watching power rangers.
I wish i could live that life. but w/e
i still stroll with my freestyle music pumpin.
the rappers look at me like i'm crazy, but deep inside they're singing along..
wasnt TKA in Alcazabah last spring?

y'all are off da hook!!!

Those were the days! I remember the open house parties that they would throw in the late 80s. Those were the shit. Everytime "My Sweet Love" would drop in a club, everybody would go crazy. I would give anything to have been able to go to Decos, Facade, Egoiste, 1235, Escapades, Rick's Bar, Casanova, Club One and all the others. Everytime I pass by Carjul it takes me back. The phatest concert I ever went to though was probably Stevie B at Club Boca a few years ago. That was off da hook. And also, Coro, Cynthia and Johnny at Crystal earlier this year.

"Be with you tonight" reminds me of the TCBY on 49 Street back in da day!! and Westland!

I guess all the old Freestylers have gotten married, have had kids, and no longer go dancing.

Remember back when Power played "Drums of Love"?

I was there to see TKA at Alcazaba last spring!!

ther were many phases in maimi..the hot 105 days and the latin-hiphop groove...then the power towrds the late 80's.
i loved both, buat also missed the late 80's period.
when power used to play "face to face(with love)" or "you stole my heart" by company b, "susias' by los sucios, sandee's "love desire" "i dont care for you" by genuine parts,"i want you" teaz II pleaze' "cant stop the beat" by trenier, "voices in your head" by paris by air,
erotic exotic "take me as i am" "l.o.v.e." "i can give you what you need" and all htose records that are rare to hear on radio.

"L's for the love you give me.
O' is for the only one.
V means your very special.
e's for everytime we make l.O.V.E.

(drop the beats!)

miami alwasys had its own thing...and no other thing in the world can take that away.ther was no other thing to describe the unity, family, and togetherness that existed back then.
its still around, but not that big.

the older generation did get older, but some of us that were younger then and still around now are still here.

for you miami heads....wmc 2003...taishan ballII.

i not only plan to capture the whole essence of the latin hiphop days...but pay tribute to miami. we are going to throw it down miami style. and everybody from back in the day will be in the house..from frank lords to los sucias, to lewis martinee..etc.

I realize that this is an old, old thread but thought I'd answer your question about the Carjul employee, although I have no idea if you're still looking for the answer, LOL: His name was Lazaro Leon, if we're thinking of the same guy. Mainly DJ'd, kind of a quiet guy.

Calle Ocho

I would have to say my favorite miami concert would be... CALLE OCHO, but it
was soo long ago, and i got to see TRINERE LIVE. Iwill always remember that.
I' m sorry i can't help you with the song your trying to find. Sometimes you
have to just keep trying and you will come across it.

nothing backin the days for me when i lived in miami. CLUB NU dancin Danny B and stephx jammin to freestyle. Ricks Bar, Jammin Johnny ruled it.. Eddie mix was all over, i met everyone..Damn How time flies, but i have NO regret whatsoever being from this generation....Its been awesome!!!

let's not forget some important places....The Beat teen club on bird road. I saw Madonna, Run DMC, Nolan Thomas( yo little brother) Jesse Jess(young ladies) and many other acts. Trans Am's, Z28's, PRivat ID shirts, Those were the days
I grew up in Kendall when it was just staring to boom. Club Oz in Cutler Ridge.
Parallel Bars at the Bakery Center. Everyone dressed up like Don Johnson. DAMN im old

IRAD, wasn't the Beat on Coral Way and about 34th Avenue around '84 or so? I could've sworn it was on a second floor of an old building, right across from where Miracle Center eventually was.

The Beat Club (teen club) was owned and opened by Mr. Nunez (Night Club Giant) the same man who brought us Casanova's in Hialeah and later on Warsaw (gay club) on Miami Beach as well as The Parallel Bar at the Bakery Center, The Beat was located where Salon Azul banquet hall is at (or was) on Bird road.

The Beat did very well for a long time until Vince opened Illusions on 49st in Hialeah in the K-Mart shopping center where the old skating rink was.

Illusions hosted many live acts such as, Dougie Fresh,Jermaine Stewart,Mantronix,Expose and many more.

Skylite express then hit the scene in the Kendall Town and Country mall which brought down The Beat Club and Illusions,Skylite booked all the top acts of the time, from Salt & Peppa,LL Cool J to countless freestyle acts.

The only popping night club I remember near 34th and Coral way was The Big Daddy Lounge.

Back in those days being a teen was great, many clubs were opened to teens and most didnt let you in if you dressed like crap, there was a standard in dress codes we do not see today, the kids looked and acted good in those days!

Let us not forget clubs such as: Banana Boat (Kendall) Infinity's (Miami Springs) Backstreets (Ft Lauderdale) Nepenthaz (Ft Lauderdale) and Pete & Lennys, Aerial Squadrom 94 (nw 57 ave), Cats (Grove) Heartthrobs (Miracle Center) Penrods (Miami beach) and one of the most forgotten clubs in Miami that was huge on South Beach "Woodys" which was owned by Ron Woods of the band The Rolling Stones.

OH MAGOSH... DO I REMEMBER some really awesome concerts...
DO I EVER!!!
One in particular at a club in Miami Springs off 826.. It was mid 90's... Angel from the Cover Girls was one of the acts, Rockell and Cynthia, I think were some others. It was a blast.. But Let me tell you... Angel like picked me out of the crowd... She was singing to me, right in my face, I could see the color around her eyes, thats how close she was. It was really very nice. Somewhat of a turn on, ooops probably shouldnt be saying that here.. HAHAHAH. A couple people told me she was flirting with me, but nahhh.. I didnt believe it.. But it did one thing, definately turned me into a Cover Girls fan, it was an incredible night. I wont ever forget it. Growing up in Miami definately had a huge influence on my choice of music, and what I learned about all the different cultures. Miami gave me alot that not very many (if no other) cities in this country can give you. It immerses you in different cultures like no other. It truly is the City of Paradise..

81 st and Collins was the beach to hang out at during the early stages of Freestyle,Y-100 held many concerts on 81 st.

The Miami Seaquarium also hosted many concerts.

Tropical and Tamiami park concerts were huge back in the day!
