Metropolitan's Ladies of Freestyle Volume 1:
I got this CD in the mail a few days ago, courtesy of Latif Mercado. At first, I didn't know what to expect, given the fact that I had never heard of the dj who did this megamix (DJ Mista Bizy). Upon listening to it the first time, I wasn't impressed very much, but later after I listened to it a few more times, I realized that this mix actually grew on me. The selection is quite good, since it includes songs that are not that popular and are not usually found on other compilations. Perhaps the only song included in this megamix that is found in many Freestyle compilations is Lil' Suzy's "Promise Me". The Cd starts off with a 3 and a half minute intro/medley containing parts of various of the songs that are included on the mix, which gives the listener a good idea of what is to come... One thing that i like about this mix Cd is that it actually contains 2 verses and 3 choruses of every song (as opposed to some mixes who only include 30 seconds of each song), so it's kinda like the whole song is there, except that instead of ending, it mixes into the next song...I also like the fact it includes a blend of Classics and Newschool jams...Some of the classics that are included in this CD are "You were the one" by Deniz, "After the Lovin'" by Laissez-Faire, "Forever" by Nicole Daniels, the previously mentioned "Promise Me" by Lil' Suzy and "Special Love" by April, which is extremely rare in Freestyle compilations...Some newschool tracks on the CD include "Can't You See It" by Chrissy I-eece, "Don't Turn Your Back On Me" by Amy Tori, "Now and Forever" by Marybell Love, "Take the Time" by Lia Marquis, and the progressive jam "You Don't Have to Worry" by Rhythmcentric, so there should be something for everyone in this CD. One more thing to point out is that the songs are mixed at a speed slightly higher than your typical Freestyle song...somewhere at around 134 BPM, so on some of the songs, the vocals appear slightly higher pitched than what they would normally sound...Some of you oldchool fans might not like that, but it may be more accepted by today's crowd who seem to like the faster BPM's... I must admit, that this CD is not one that I would probably buy, because of the fact that I already own most of the songs on it (on other compilations) However, i would recommend it to those who are just starting their Freestyle collections, or to those who are trying to get into Freestyle music.
The track listing is as follows:
1) Manuella - "Don't Try To Come Back To Me
2) Deniz - "You Were The One"
3) Laissez-Faire - "After the Lovin'"
4) Chrissy I-eece - "Can't You See It"
5) Nicole Daniels - "Forever"
6) Amy Tori - "Don't Turn Your Back On Me"
7) Denine - "Tearshed '93"
8) Marybell Love - "Now and Forever"
9) Lia Marquis - "Take the Time"
10) Lil' Suzy - "Promise Me"
11) Rhythmcentric - "You Don't Have To Worry"
12) Tina Elise - "Love Will Keep Us Together"
13) April - "Special Love"
