....is to continue to produce, manufacture and distribute quality Freestyle music to the masses, and by seeking and developing new Freestyle talent, we at Metropolitan Records, in alliance with the Freestyle community strive to re-establish the Freestyle market.

Aside from the "LADIES OF STYLE" Mega-Mixes last year (which contained absolutely no new material), what new Freestyle releases has Metropolitan put out in the last 3 years?

Metro was one of my favorite labels and it would be great if they could realize the goal in their statement. Does anyone know if Metro is still thriving? Last I heard was they were almost out of business until a few successes with their "Metro Underground" label saved them from closing their doors...
 
When?

That statement was made last year after Denny Tsettos left Metropoitan and Latif Mercado took over, and turned Metro around a 180 back towards Freestyle.

That is when Latif brough the Stylin Free catalog to Metro, and when he planned the Ladies of Freestyle series of mixed cds.

As for new Metropolitan Freestyle... Unfortunately no news so far.
 
I think the freestyle market has to be taken into account too. I'm sure Metro is gonna come out with some wicked..."stuff". I'd rather the Metro people take their time & come out with some quality "shinto" than rush out some "half-a$$ed" freestyle (one of the reasons Freestyle kinda-sorta died).

Metro remains my fav label!

The only Freestyle Metropolitan has released in the past two years is the Ladies of Freestyle mix cd's and the Lil' Suzy Mega Mix cd.

And on the Ladies of Freestyle mix cd's and the Lil' Suzy Mega Mix cd- there were no new songs, so Kenny, how can you say METRO has gotten alot better within the past year?
 
Perhaps Kenny means that since they didn't release anything new over the last year or two - there is no way Metro could have helped to further destroy our music, lol...

I e-mailed Metro twice regarding some cds I wanted to order so I could add to my collection, but no one even got back to me. So I don't know what they are talking about as far as "distribute quality Freestyle music". At least Mickey Garcia form Mic Mac got back to me, which by the way is my favorite label. I seriously think, for that mission statement to come through we need a miracle, but I'm willing to dream of that day.

Nothing But The Truth

I applaud the grit of 'true' freestyle fans. Fans who long for the Glory Days of yester-year to simply reappear in an age where a record of any genre, done just 2 years ago, gets titled old school!
We here at CF must be realistic. Don't get it twisted, I post here mainly because I am the mouthpiece of TKA,etc. But I have grown to LOVE most of the members here at this site. We actually have developed friendships here that transcend the music. So as your friend I have to be totally honest with you. Freestyle as you know it, is dead. Not dead in the sense of it doesn't exist. No. But dead in pop culture terms. We can't even pack a club to make sure our own artist eat, period. So as artist, what are we left to do? We can't live a freestyle lifestyle and still pay the rent, so your best artist won't be recording this music. Sure as an underground circuit, as long as many of you are alive. This form of music will always exist(hence, there's hope). But as we all know the music? It's dead and gone. Taboo even. We couldn't get shot up at KTU (even after doing 7,777,222 free promo's) or any other 'rhythmic/crossover/dance' station around the country simply because we were TKA, and the freestyle identity we carried. We had to rep freestyle even when we didn't want to. It was already there before we got there.."The Kings of...." Well you know what? We had our day.
And it's night time!

As for Metropolitain Records, which is currently still running, albeit it as a pressing plant for all kinds of major media. They also have to pay bills. They have tried time and again to do their best to give you their best. There is simply not enough of you die hard fans to really make a difference. Therefore, you may be stuck living in the past with all the best of the old material, untill we DESTROY and REBUILD freestyle. Give it a new name, and give birth to a new day.

Angel and Blis, Sal and wherever he's rocking at the time,etc.. I can go on with all the promoters I know ,and all the club owners around the country. They give it to me straight all the time. We get these clubs (shows) by default. Hop hop and R and B is just too costly(anywhere from $15,000 t0 $50,000) and risky for a club(gotta get corprate sponsers), therefore it is always safer to book a freestyle act at a fraction of the cost, to manifest some kind of entertainment. If Ja Rule or Mary J were as cheap as $1,000 bucks, as a lot of these freestyle acts are, freestyle wouldn't even smell the stage at most of these clubs. That my friends, is the plain truth. I beg of you not to hate me for telling you the deal. I'm still here hoping against hope with you. But I am not crazy enough not to see that, what is...is...and freestyle is gone.

I send up a toast in it's memory, and like the WTC I look forward to seeing it rebuilt. I know it can be done. OPEN YOUR MINDS!:realsad

I got to agree with TyBless...Freestyle, as we all know it, is dead. For me, of all people, to say this, breaks my heart. There is just not enough support. I was very disenchanted, when Blis was playing "When Will I See C U" and it seemed that aside from TKA, the only ones who knew the words to the song were myself, Crazygirl, and Dreamgirl. Also, to find out later on that Angel, Alex, and Safire were leaving us, well, that doesn't leave much hope, does it? Maybe a new sound and a new name for the genre IS what it takes to bring it back, and hopefully, give Angel, Alex, and Safire a reason to COME back. To paraphrase a famous line--if we rebuild it, they will come back. But we got to take a chance. Experience with new sounds and new artists. Show them the same support we gave people like Safire, the Cover Girls, Nayobe, when THEY were new artists 15-20 years ago. It won't happen overnight, and to expect it to would be unrealistic. But it is up to the fans. Let's not drop the ball again
