It's CF's 5th aniv. We have the mission to keep this great music alive. Listening to Rockell's new song. It shows that there is potential in Freestyle. I know it will never be the big phemonon it was in the 80's. But I think the music can have good growing fanbase and have some big club play, even some recogonition on Radio mix shows.

What needs to happen to make freestyle a bigger success?

OK

First of all, produce good songs.

Also, get clout with the clubs. Find a DJ who will take chances with playing the music. Don't worry about radio yet. House and Techno became big in the early 80's without the help of radio. It was word of mouth and club interest. Lets not forget a genre called: Hip Hop grew with the help of clubs, house parties and word of mouth. Radio would not touch hip hop with a 20 foot pole.

Acts need to be more self sufficient.

The issue with dance music is that it's producer driven. We need dance acts who can write, arrange, and produce their own material.

The Nu Generation really has to work their asses off to prove they want freestyle alive. The ol' sku cats did their jobs, now it's time for the the young acts to step up and prove themselves.....so far they've done a good job! 😉

More More & More promotions or advertisement of good Freestyle music. and a easier way of being able to aquire the music it self,.. cuase it's always put away in the wrong section of the stores.

appeal to the KIDS .. they are most easily persuaded & convinced. build it up from there. worked on me when i first heard freestyle at age 13, anyway.

Gwen Stefani has a couple of songs with freestyle elements on her new album, and she is a major act - I think the mistake a lot of newer freestyle artists make is trying to make the music sound exactly like it did 18 years ago - music is like everything else - it evolves - there are different sounds being used, more modern equipment...dance music unfortunately is not as strong right now as it has been in the past for ANY genre of music but I think if a freestyle artist wants to succeed there should be several mixes of a song in different styles on the single - limiting yourself limits your chance of success. If the main mix, is freestyle, then try to appeal to all the possible venues your music can be played. This way, if a house dj doesn't like the freestyle mix, he can play the house version, but he is still supporting the song itself. Same with trance, pop etc. Of course when the single sells, the freestyle version will still be there prominently alongside all the other versions. Then when the artist becomes popular enough through exposure to the public, you have a little more power to get the original freestyle version heard. No matter how talented a singer is, it takes money and power to break a record, so the more people you appeal to, the more chance that someone will listen to the freestyle mix and say "Hey, this is really cool!"

Evolve the freestyle sound. Slowly move away from the Planent Rock and Shannon beats. Still let it have the hard thump sound, but let the sound evolve a little so it can get the attention of club kids today.

I agree with Damion Wild and Mike 4949, in order for our music to evolve, we need to expand our minds and make different beats and sounds (mixes), unquestionably we need to get away from the Planet rock sound. Alot of today's Trance singers sound very much like freestyle, but with an updated sound. Artist like Kate Ryan and Ashley Jade have Freestyle like mixes on their current singles.

Latin babe(sweet name), those are good points. Look at High NRG, it started out mostly electro pop, but gained more of a fast house sound in the 90's and today. Garage, started more of hard disco in early 80's , but now more of an Urban House sound.

Also, artist and producers should listen closely to Ciara and Abruery. They aren't freestyle, but they have a sound that could be the key to a new Freestyle direction. :jiggy

True that, I totally forgot about Ciara and Aubrey. I just love "If you don't know me by now". the Johnny Budz mix is Off the Hook. Evolution Babe!!!!!!!!!

ya i love 1,2 step.. but as long as freestyle does not become 100% crunk / lil jon cr@p then im fine with the ciara influence

LOl

A duet with george Lamond and Lil Jon is not gonna save the day.LOL. But I love the imput in this thread. I think if you have some true artist who love freestyle, will make good records and try some new ideas out. :jiggy :dancepuff

I think a few ciara sounds would be a good start.

Another great example would be this song that was out last year:

Jem-They

That had a sound that could be a perfect new 21 st century Freestyle sound. :jiggy
