I'm hearing IOU by Freeze on KTU and I have to say that in my opinion that song was half disco/and half what became known as freestyle today...what do yuo guys think?

I debated this a million times lol

I won't get into details, I'll just say it's freestyle in my opinon. All the elements are there and it gives me a feel I don't get with non freestyle songs.

I would say more freestyle than disco too.

I put it in the post-disco, pre-freestyle category.

FREESTYLE!!!
"IOU", LIKE "One More Shot", "pop goese my love" and "I remember what you like". were all freestyle. due to the elements, the base lines, etc.
they were in fact the first "real" freestyle records that were responsible for turning electro funk back to disco (dance music).

there were a bunch of electrofunk and freestyle records that used disco loops.(c-bank feat elenoir mills "good to the last drop" borrowed from that "before the grace of god" disco record. even later records by many of the freestyle records by tka (borrowed from Honey moon in puerto rico" for "one way love") and others had disco loops or borrowed sounds from disco records.
But, records of that time were seen as dance. it was disco one way or the other, but a new disco that poured into teen clubs, the streets ,roller rinks and ice ceam parlors.

im not even going to start listing records, but those who were there know what im talking about.

hhhmmmm! roler skating backwards. WALKING ON SUNSHINE!!!

The same thing is going on with freestyle break records today. they are evolving out of updated electro/acid phunk and ebm. borrowing that basic dance beat and break beats from early 80's records (drum n kick), and the new form of freestyle records are born.well, somthing like that.

see, its somthing you had to be there to understand...unlike today..back then all that matered was the music and the unity. we didnt have all these lil categories of what was what all the time. if it sounded good and felt good.. then it was AAAAAAALLLL right!.

E A O era era eraO!!!

freestyle beats, disco and rap. feathered hair and members only jackets.
it was all good!

And send my love to the FIRST TRUE lady of freestyle. our first freestyle vocalist, before all...miss Jenny Burton.

thats right babay..."I REMEMBER WHAT YOU LIKE"

So "Let The Music Play" can't possibly be considered freestyle but "IOU" is?

huh?

Mark I considered it freestyle, cause when it all boils all together it's the same sound only different names to the sounds, but it all sounds like "latin Hip Hop, breakbeats, freestyle" to me or what ever else they want to call it these days.lol

Lolz! No doubt, I wonder how many actual terms people can make up without just calling a song what it is, FREESTYLE.

Like "it sounds kinda freestyle...but not really" so let's call it this...

😛

exactly!.lol I mean this genre has gone through more name changes than Elizabeth Taylor through husbands!.lol but it's all freestyle to my ears😉

awwwwwwwwwww!!!!

NOW THIS IS A THREAD WELL WORTH READING ..ANTHONY-SIETZ-JONPITO-NAYA.GOT THIS DEBATE IN CONTROL...YEAH BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!FREDDIE...LOL😉 😉

Honestly, I don't care what it is. "IOU" is that one song that always brings me back to my childhood days when I was living in and out of the Bronx. Also, I used to love hearing it whenever I watched Beat Street. It signifies a time when Disco was on its way out and Dance music was being created. But then again, this is my opinion.
